Let’s sit over here by the fire. I’ve made us a nice pot of hot tea.

And some yummy snowball cookies. Would you like a chocolate-dipped peppermint stick? I sampled a couple before you got here…you know, just to make sure they were good.

I hope you know how much your visits and friendship mean to me! As I was getting ready for your visit this evening, I thought how much I’d love to know more about you. I would love it if you would share just your first name, maybe your age, (promise I won’t tell anyone) and what state or area of the country you live in. I’d love to know what type of work you do, outside or inside the home, your hobbies or passions…really anything you’d feel comfortable sharing.

Tell me what you most enjoy seeing when you visit BNOTP? Is there something you’d love to see more of or a topic you’d like to see a post about?

Today is your day…and I want to know all about you! That includes all you wonderful lurkers out there! (To leave a comment, just click on the word “comments” that you’ll see at the bottom of this post.)

Each post is created with you in mind…so please, tell me all about yourself. Feel free to share as little or as much as you like…whatever is comfortable.

Susan-what a welcoming setting! I can honestly say that your blog and Tablescape Thursday has really gotten me back into doing something I love. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy "fussing". I'd really gotten a bit lazy about how I was doing things once my kids left home.

I left my job when we moved 6 years ago, so I stay busy with house, computer, books and travel. I'm in Illinois.

  43. Hi Susan – First of all, Susan is my favorite female name. My favorite doll was named Susan because I thought anyone named Susan was beautiful and very nice.

My name is Bonnie and I live in the northwest suburban area of Chicago, Illinois.
I'm 71 years old, retired, and love to quilt, do counted cross-stitch, knit, read, and volunteer at my church. I also spend way too much time reading blogs and yours is on my Google Reader list.
My favorite thing on your blog is the pictures of homes – inside and out.
Thanks for maintaining such a superior blog.

  44. Angela, 44, Illinois. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 22 years. We have three children, twins age 10 and a 12 year old. I enjoy creating spaces for my family that I hope will inspire them, make them feel comfortable, peaceful, and loved and generate many fond memories that become traditions for them some day. In my professional life I am an economic developer which is exciting and rewarding too. I love your blog and have been inspired and moved by it more times than I can count. Your spaces are so inviting and beautiful that I could linger for hours admiring them. You've inspired a whole new dimension for me in hostessing and decorating and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm even creating a couple of 10 year old dish lovers and thrifters. THEY now call my attention to blue willow or transferware or Spode, etc. when we see it in an antique store or department store. I'm thrilled when I ask them if they want to help set the table and they ask me, by pattern name, which china we're using. I can't wait until they have their own dining rooms some day and I can help them select, create and entertain. Seems only fair though to thank you for this new dimension in our lives as yours is the first blog I ever visited when I found it after staring endlessly at your RMS posts. It is the blog I eagrly await each new post and though I don't know you at all beyond this form of communication, I feel like you are a friend. Again, many thanks for all you do for your blogging friends.

  45. Annesphamily says

I am from Arkansas and an elementary school teacher for the past 10 years. I am quickly approaching the big 50. But you're only as old as you feel right?

I am new to blogging and tablescaping and look forward to decorating my home during 2010. I am counting on using the beautiful homes of all the wonderful, sharing bloggers out there for ideas and suggestions.

  47. Susan,
I'm Lauren, 41, and a neighbor (P'tree Corners)…I have discovered many new "haunts" I didn't even know existed in my own back yard by reading your blog! My name is Pat. I have just turned the big 50 and I live in South Carolina. I LOVE your blog! I haven't been following very long but I have spent a lot of time reading your older posts to bring me up to speed. We share the same interests and tastes. My 19 year old daughter and I were looking at photos of your home the other day and pointing out all of the same things that are in our house! We have several of the same fabrics! I am a former school teacher but I currently have a very small business which I operate from my home office and a warehouse. As a dishaholic, I designed and produced a set of Christmas dinnerware that tells the Biblical Christmas story. You will have to surf by the website to see it (www.BethlehemChristmas.com). I am always intrigued to see how you mix the more "costly" with the gems you've found at The Classy Flea, GW, and Homegoods. I always love the "pretties", but love a bargain as well.

As for new ideas for your blog, I would love some storage ideas for all the china, glassware etc. List of decorating books or courses would be nice. Some of my Facebook friends are also now following your blog. Keep up the good work. So thankful to have found out about you. Feels like we are old friends. Adele

Hi Susan – Tablescape Thursday is my favorite day of the week! Your post today was especially cozy and I would love to sample one of your snowball cookies. I am retired, live in Kansas and love collecting dishes – mainly Candlewick and Vernonware Gingham, which I inherited from my Grandmother.

  92. Beansieleigh says

Oh I LOVE your china tea set! I love the birds, and loved feeding them when I had a front porch to feed them from. Now I have an apartment with NO front porch so I miss that, and wonder if any poor cold hungry birdies are missing me this year. I suppose I could still go to the park to feed them, but I'm a little leary about looking like the bird ladies from Mary Poppins or Home Alone! (0; Oh well, not that I don't LOVE those characters!!… Hmmmm.. I think I'll just take one of those snowball cookies as I run along to see the other tablescapes! Have a wonderful week and stay warm! ~tina

  99. Hi Susan
I have been enjoying your blog for almost a year now. I love your home and have read many of your posts several times. I am a CPA in Kentucky working in private industry and just turned 60 the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We live on a farm in a house built about 1880 and have spent the last several years doing some extensive remodeling. I have articles clipped from Southern Living for inspiration also. In addition to decorating our home I love to garden.

  100. Hello Susan,

I am a "lurker" most of the time, but I really enjoy reading your blog. You are very creative and I adore your porch. I especially appreciate the large photos and I am absolutely in love with your Christmas Village centerpiece. How very clever!

My name is Theresa and I will be 40 this August. I live in Arlington, Texas which is smack dab in the middle of Dallas and Ft Worth. I have been married for 20 yrs and have 1 son who will be 15 on Valentine's Day. I also have a step-son who just turned 28 and will celebrate his 5th anniversary in May. And I can't forget our "adopted" son. He is an international student from China and he lives in the dorm during school, but comes to our home on holidays and occasional weekends.

We live in a little house that doesn't have a porch, but it's on my 'someday' list. =)

Thank you for your inspiration and for encouraging us to share about ourselves. I don't have a blog as of yet. I have considered it, but I'm not sure. I take terrible photos! Hmm, maybe I will put that on my 'someday' list too.

    Blessings to you!

  105. Susan, I stumbled across your blog somehow and ever since I have, I am in awe of your tablescapes and decorating style.

I am 57 and reside in suburb of New York City. I was a former antique dealer specializing in china and crystal. I found there was a lack of interest in my area of Westchester so I retired but I have not lost my enthusiasm and you have sparked it in me!

I enjoy all your creative ideas and I have come to realize that there are a lot of you out there that love what I love! So, I find this refreshing!

It's Faye from Alabama who asks all the questions about your china, house, linens, etc….I really enjoy reading your blog each day and as someone else said "it is better than any magazine I buy".

Some things I would like you to blog about:
Entertaining/serving large crowds (10 or more), how to recognise a good antique when you see one, what do you consider your decorating style to be?, how and where do you store all that tablescaping stuff?

Thanks for sharing your home, style and knowledge with us.

    God Bless,

  111. Susan, Your blog is one of my favorites and I wanted to thank you for putting together such an lovely and inspiring blog. Tablescape Thursday is my favorite post of the week.

  116. Hi Susan! My name is Jeanette and I am from New Jersey. I actaully found your blog by going onto another blog. Yours is my favorite though :). We redid our kitchen and dining room last summer and it was a huge project. I now have the kitchen of my dreams and a dining room. The house is a 1950's cape and the previous owners did nothing to it. So the house was clay waiting to be molded. I spend so much time in our home and I always knew how I wanted it to look. You have given me some fabulous ideas and tips. I love coming here. Everything always looks so inviting. I love the winter gatherings patern from Lenox, I actaully got a teapot for Christmas. Hope to build up some of those pieces.

You have given me so many ideas. I learned when I was first married how to make a home look wonderful even on a small budget. I love to thrift store shop, loooove dishes, tea sets, and candles.
I also tried one of your recipes last year for a fantastic cranberry trifle and everyone loved it so much, I made it again this year.

Not only did I fall in love with your beautiful tablescapes, but then I realized that others linked to their wonderful blogs and tablescapes, too! Truly nirvano for me, My sweet husband of almost 30 years bought me a netbook for Christmas since I was spending so much time "looking at tablescapes" on our desktop; Bless his heart, he wanted me to be in the same room with him and missed me. He's a keeper.

I have always loved dishes and have several complete sets that I have collected over the years. Until finding your blog and learning of fellow dish lovers, I thought my passion a little weird. Thank you for sharing your creativity and hosting the TT for others to share their creativity.

Thank you for giving me hours of joy each week!

I am very lucky as I work parttime as a floral designer 8 months of the year, 4 month as a greenhouse grower/mgr and still manage to squeeze in babysitting for my grandkids 2-3 days a week. Both my kids are teachers, so grandma here has summers off from sitting. I have been following tag sales for 30+ years. I am VERY new to this blog thing, stumbled on it just over the holiday. Its seems I have a passion for a great many things and try (unsuccessfully) to squeeze them all into my 24 hour day. My love of cooking/baking has only increased with age (proof of my weight gains from 20 yrs. to 50 yrs., my love of the outdoors feeds my gardening and landscape projects, and my creativity is fed from browsing through decoratig magazines and blogs like yours. I am forever adding to my growing collectin of vintage finds. I love ANYTHING vintage, but find myself drawn to the farmhouse look with finds like enamelware, wood chairs, fences and yard pieces, garden items, linens and kitchenwares. I wish I had someone near me to share my finds with…all my friends are more the IKEA gals and don't share my passion for the shabby chic 🙁 but with YOU only a click away I feel as if I have found a new friend (or two.) Looking forward to sharing with you in 2010…Donna

  143. Susan,
Tea in front of the fire.. so cozy and my favorite tea, "Prince of Wales". How did you know? Ü

Your blog was a "happy Google", when this past Oct. I was searching for decorating ideas and your blog appeared. What an awesome "find" you are!
I'm 66, been retired for two years and loving every minute of it. I've been married for 41 years, have a wonderful son and DIL and the cutest 19 month old grandson ever.
The Atlanta area has been home for most of my life.
I hope to start a blog soon, but am soooo enjoying yours and so many others that I never seem to find time to begin. Actually, I'm a bit intimidated because my computer skills are "iffy", but that's my challenge for the new year. Susan, you and all the other bloggers are wonderful inspirations! Hopefully, I'll soon be a blogger instead of a "lurker".

  144. Hi Susan,
Thank you for inviting us to come sit by the fire and enjoy a cup of tea with you. I've been visiting your blog for sometime now and thoroughly enjoy each and every visit.

I am 56 (at least for another week) and live in Ontario, Canada. I am married to my high school sweetheart and together we enjoy life with our daughter and her wonderful family.

I find it interesting to note that like many of your followers, we all share very similar interests. I am also curious to know how you manage to keep track of and store all your lovely china, silverware, and accessories. By the way, I had never heard the term "tablescapes" until I started visiting BNOTP.

Thank you for always sharing your thoughts & ideas with us and I look forward to another exciting year visiting BNOTP. Sheila

  145. Susan,

What a lovely and cozy scene! I just want to curl up by that fire and never leave!
I'm so excited to have found your blog and the Tablescape Thursday! I have had an obsession with table ware and table linens and creating lovely tables for years. People use to laugh at me about my "crazy table obsession"!
I am 39 yrs old, married to a wonderful husband for almost 3 yrs. We live in Wisonsin (or WisCOWsin, haha) and I work full time as a dental assistant. My hubby and I have lots of interests; antiquing is just one of the many we share. I also garden and do many crafts, like crocheting, embroidery, floral arranging, stamping… I've been in love with the Victorian Era since I was a teenager and have been collecting things slowly for 20 yrs!

  153. Susan, how warm and cozy, something it isn't in Kansas, right now! I followed your blog long before I recently became a blogger.

  163. Hi Susan. I 'met' you through RMS last year and have loved your blog since you started it. I am 47, a mother of an 18 year old in college and a 16 year old in high school. I love gardening, decorating and shopping! I am currently in Salt Lake City, as we just moved here this summer from Oregon. I am excited about decorating and gardening in this new house.
I think you're an amazing blogger. I've gotten so many ideas from you!
Thanks and keep up the great work!

  164. Susan,
Another wonderful tablescape, I could have sat down infront of the fire there and then and just dozed off after tea and cookies.I love your blog and feel inspired to refurbish the house this year. My lovely husband is needing to sit down clutching his pockets as I write. I am 55yrs (Ugh)a retired Police Officer with three stepchildren and we live in the north of England near to York. We are currently having the coldest winter for 30 years so plenty of time for the home. My main passions are embroidery, quilting and knitting which I mainly do to raise money for charity but have decided to do some for our home as well.
Having just spent the last 2 years decluttering I can now see that I will be haunting china and thrift shops 🙂
Thanks so much for your inspiration.

  165. Hi Susan! Your tablescapes are always inspirational. I was a reader long before I entered my first tablescape back in September, through encouragement from Susan at Black-eyed Susan's Kitchen.I enjoy doing tablescapes, but with my schedule I'm only able to do one a month. I am awed by how you all do it every week! I am a 49 year old Master Floral Designer, mixed media fiber artist, and decorative artist in Cincinnati, Ohio. Thanks again for inspiring us and giving us a venue to hopefully inspire others.

  166. Susan,
I am coming out of lurkdom to tell you how eager I am for Tablescape Thursday each week! I so enjoy savoring all the creativity throughout the weekend.

I love seeing how you've decorated your beautiful home. I especially love the judge's paneled family room and the upstairs family room.

I am 38 and a former high-school English teacher and South Carolina native. I am currently a stay-at-home mom homeschooling my six-year-old daughter and four-year-old son. One of our new year's resolutions was to have a family night each week, complete with dinner, game, and devotional. Your tablescapes have inspired me to try to make at least that night's table special each week.

I've taken my first pictures of a table set with my great-aunt's china, and I hope to join TT next week.

    Thanks for all the inspiration!

  167. Susan, I first met you on RMS.
    I am 57.
Florist by trade; wedding planner too.
I have been married for 40 years and have two beautiful daughters and five grandchild.
I work full time at our two business + my wedding business.
I enjoy decorating, shopping and collecting of china (Lenox pieces), stemware and flatware.
I still enjoy reading your blog each time you post. Can you post some information about yourself.

  168. Susan…although late, I thought I would join in and tell you that I am 56 year olds, medically retired from being a Legal secretary. I worked for years assisting Victims of Violent Crime. I live in AZ now, born and raised in Michigan. You know I love tablescaping and decorating my home, when I am not spending time with my husband on his days off or my wonderful 2 grandchildren.

  169. Hi Susan, This was so much fun to be able to read about others that enjoy BNOTP. I love your tablescapes and have become quite a dishaholic because of it. My sweet husband just laughs as I come out with new dishes. I love your style of decorating, it has been so motivating.
I am 59 yrs old, live in Dublin, Ohio, we have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. I don't have a lot of time to look at blogs so enjoy being able to get the updates on my email and facebook.

  170. I googled "tablescape" this summer and ran across your blog. Your blog has opened a new world to me. I'm a ministry partner (pastor's wife)in Kentucky. I live in a empty nest. There were 3 birds that flew away and built their own nests. I love to entertain and make my guests feel special. You are so creative and talented. Your tablescape pictures should be put in book form. I have just set up a blog tonight and I'm trying to learn about the blogging world. Thank you for your inspiration.

  171. Dear Susan,

I truly enjoy your blog, but the best surprise of all was to find that you are a neighbor. My house is very similar to yours, and we have very similar tastes in dishes! In fact, I had never even heard of blogging until I did a google search for dishes one day in 2009, and your site popped up! Wow! I was really taken in by the photography, and the next thing you know, I was hooked! Now I enjoy several blogs regularly (that I found thanks to you), but yours is home base! I plan to paint my kitchen cabinets this year and enjoyed the posts about your kitchen redo. By the way, you mentioned that you painted the inside of your cabinets yourself, but had a company paint the doors. Would you mind giving me the name of that contractor? I'd like to do the same. Anyway, I know you get lots of fan mail, so I'll go now. I would truly LOVE to meet you some day and maybe have lunch some Saturday. Oh – you asked about occupation: I'm an office manager by day and piano teacher by evening. You've given me lots of inspiration, and most of all, it's nice to know that I'm not the only dish-loving person out there. For Christmas I got my first DSLR and I plan to learn to take photos to document my upcoming projects to use on perhaps my own future blog, who knows! THANKS FOR ALL THE INSPIRATION! It's a crazy, at-times-ugly world out there, and your blog is a breath of fresh air – I APPRECIATE YOU!

    Lisa in East Cobb

  172. Susan…Like I said before, I LOVE your blog…have been reading it for years. Your profession is near-and-dear to my heart, as my 89-year-old mother has alzheimer's and is in a wonderful facility. Sadly, my father was abused in another facility before his death.

-I am 61, a doll and jewelry artist who has 'restarted' my business after caring for mom for 6 years. I sell on Etsy and at major art shows in Ohio, my home.

-I created my line of cloth Ragamuffin Dolls 21 years ago. They can be found in homes all over the world!

-Married 40 years to my college sweetheart…and LOVE to blog and visit my favorites.

-I taught 2nd and 3rd grade, and nursery school and raised 2 sons: one is a physical therapist, the other a computer engineer. 2 grandbabies so far!!

-I love my home, decorating, my poodle, dishes, anything vintage and books. Never enough books.

This was a great idea! I'm printing off the comments to read while visiting my 'sleeping' mom!

    Fondly, Carol in NE Ohio

I cannot express how much joy you and your blog gives me every week. You are indeed talented when it comes to the decorating gene! I live in SC, am a retired first grade teacher and am 59. My hubby and I have been married for 38 years and we are blessed with three beautiful daughters, two of whom are married. No grandchildren yet! I love thrifting, browsing antique malls, reading and all things decorating. I adore your choice of blog post subjects but would love to see a post on decorating a bookcase with accessories and one on just decorating with accessories in general. Keep doing what you're doing, friend! Love it!

I began blogging last September having come out of four months of bad times. I think yours was the second blog I discovered (Southern Hospitality was first). I loved your blog from the start and have had so much inspiration from it, you wouldn't believe. I did a post on my new china cupboard a little while ago. The cupboard only came about because of your post about transforming yours.
I was born in Hackney, London from a long line of Hackney ancestors. I'm a child of the sixties and I love hunting for treasure in flea markets and charity (thrift) shops. I love looking at your photos (you take great pics) of your home and your tables etc, and have found other lovely blogs through links on yours. I really believe you and other bloggers like you have helped me out of the black cloud that was a good part of last year and made me see the joys in life again. Big, big sincere thank you. xx

  176. Hi Susan,

I am totally new to this bloggin world! I have admired your posts on RMS for sometime now. I just started my own blog as well. I took a different spin on mine, and hoping it goes well. Thus far I am happy. With that being said I will paste your table scape to my page, and plan to participate in the future. Your home and flair is wonderful. Thank you so much. http://debbie-debbiedoos.blogspot.com. I do hope you take a glance on by.

  177. Susan OMG! Tea in front of the fireplace with Christmasy teacups and Russian tea cakes, Mexican wedding cakes or Snowballs, whatever YUM!!!! If only I could teleport, I'd be there in a nano second! Thanks for the always beautiful blog.Sincerely, Kae(sister of M at Tales From an OC Cottage)

    Hi Kae,
Girl, you come right on…would so love having you come by for a visit! Just love your sister, so I'm delighted to meet you! 🙂 If either of you are ever in ATL, stop by and I'll be sure to have a fire in the fireplace…or if it's summer…we'll be drinking sweet tea on the porch! 🙂

  179. Hi Susan,
I just found your blog today and have been reading some of the archives. I am in love with and want your screened porch. I have a tiny one with only room for a small table and 4 chairs and ledges for my cats to sit on. I also love how you include Max in your pictures. What a pretty boy. Your photos are gorgeous and your decorating talent reigns!
I love decorating and when I was a little girl I just loved rearranging furniture for my mom.

Now I'm 57, recently retired from full time teaching in a dental hygiene program. Loving life and making good use of my time volunteering, learning the harp and of course decorating. We have 4 kitties that enjoy our porch. I live in Oklahoma. Thanks for all your tips and inspiration.

  180. Hi Susan!
My name is Kay, and I just turned 49 yesterday! I have been reading your blog since last spring, and I enjoy all your pictures. I live in Ohio, but I have been to Georgia many, many times! My sister lives in northeast Georgia, and my middle daughter just went back to her college in northwest Georgia! My oldest daughter is in her last year of college here in Ohio, and my son just started high school this year. I just went back to work as a nurse in a neonatal unit, after being a "stay at home mom". Thank you for sharing all your beautiful pictures!
    Kay

  181. I have just today stumbled upon your blog and I am HOOKED! I am 30 years old, from North Florida/South Georgia, raised and schooled in the South, but recently transplanted to the crazy life in New York City. Although I spend my days slaving away in the corporate world, I find a happy retreat in all things silver/china/crystal. Some evenings on my walk home, I'll stop in at Scully & Scully on Park Ave just to look at all of their beautiful tables. I collect and "play" with my china constantly, limited only by the lack of storage space in my small NY apartment (and price tags, of course). Give me a butler's pantry over a five star custom shoe closet any day! During the holidays this year, I set with Herend Chinese Black (Halloween), Lynn Chase Winter Game Birds Chestnut (Thanksgiving), and Vera Wang Holly Wreath (Christmas). This sping I can't wait to break out the Queen Victoria and the julep cups! Thank you for sharing your beautiful creations. I can't wait to come back and visit on Thursday!

I am a lurker. And I do not have a Blog. But I have been coming by your place for sometime.
I am 60 now and I live on the eastern Shore Of Maryland.
Your whole House is stunning, but I think the thing I like best is posts about your porch.
But I have to say,I really enjoyed seeing your lovely teaset .
Thank you so much for being such a gracious hostess.

  183. Hi Susan,

You have such a lovely blog. I guess for awhile now I have been a lurker – – – I may have left some comments in the past but can’t remember. I love your house and all your decorating and your ideas have inspired me so much! Thank you!!!

OK – so here is the info you asked for…

My name is Mary and I am almost 55 years old. I live in the Texas Hill Country (central Texas between Austin and San Antonio – – – we’re closer to Austin) near Lake Travis. I am married to a wonderful man and we have one child, a son, who I have homeschooled for the last 8 years. He’ll be starting high school this fall, attending a nice Catholic high school in our area. He’s so excited and so am I! 😉 I am looking forward to using some of my free time to devote to my hobbies.

I am an attorney by education, but when I met my husband and got married, I became a stay-at-home – – – or I guess I should say, “stay-at-home-mom-to-be”. I got pregnant a few weeks after we got married so I became a stay -at-home-mom since I was about to turn 40, and my doc told me to get a lot of rest 🙂 After working such long hours for so long, I welcomed the rest…I loved every minute of it! 🙂

For my hobbies I absolutely love to read cookbooks and to cook…and to eat. Oh my! It is such a passion for me – and I have the waist to prove it. 🙂 I also love to garden which is interesting for me here in Texas since I am a former East Coaster. I also enjoy fixing up /decorating our home for which I get so much inspiration from you.

All the best and Happy New Year to you.

    Love,
    Mary

    • Mary, so great hearing from you! This was one of my favorite posts because it recharges me and makes blogging that much more fun when I can picture the dearhearts who’ll be reading those posts. My sister and you would hit it off. She also loves reading cookbooks and loves cooking. She also enjoys watching all the cooking shows that come on. I love the eating part. 😉

  184. Hi Susan I’m Miriam and I enjoy your blog from a little green rain soaked country called Ireland. I’m 44 and I work as an accounts administrator. I have one daughter she is 23 and my proudest achievement ever.
I wish I understood more about how to connect with blogs, Google circles etc etc but I am technically challenged 🙂 I’m sure the more I try the more I’ll succeed.
Your cozy fireside tea looks ready to step into.

    Take Care
    Miriam.

  185. *sigh* Lennox Winter Greetings is the most beautiful holiday pattern I have ever seen. I was merely content with the pieces I had… and now I have to get the tea set. *sigh again*

I love your blog. This fireside tea looks so cozy. Wish I could pull up a chair and join in. It’s cold, dark and raining here in the Vancouver, BC, Canada area. Just had my snow tires put on……A warm cuppa and a special treat would be lovely….Are the goodies homemade?

Thanks for the great daydream material!
    Warm thoughts to you,

  187. I love reading your blog every day. Love your beautiful pictures of your home, especially your table settings. You inspire me with your holiday decorations. I am 62 years old. I was a stay at home mom and entered the work force when my children went to college. I was a secretary at a large (2500 member) church. I did powerpoint presentations and 2 weekly newsletters. It was a great creative outlet for me. I had great friendships with the other 9 secretaries. When my first grandchild came along I retired to become a full-time grandma. Life is good!

  188. Hi Susan! I have been reading your blog for a few years now and absolutely love your style, projects, and décor for the seasons! My name is Lindsey and I am 29 years old. I was recently married in October and work as a Cognitive Therapist. I LOVE interior design and am a fan of traditional homes. I have my heart set on buying a Storybook Tudor someday 🙂

  189. Every time I tune into your Blog, I leave Inspired and go straight to my table and start layering. I am 54 years old and live in Hampton Cove, Alabama. My husband (of 30 years) and I have 2 children, 24 and 18. Stepping back in time I will tell you when the boys were little 2 and 6 we moved into our forever house which we designed. At the time a new thing was the rage: a thing called a “bonus room” usually over the garage…where the kids could play. I wanted my kiddos where I could peep in so we put in a bonus room off of the kitchen and breakfast area with a very large toy closet. I loved having my boys and their friends to play at our house. When they grew older it was hard for me to say goodbye to that room but now it is one of my favorite rooms, completely changed into now a keeping room where we watch TV sprawled on the sofa or read a good book while tucked under a warm throw. BUT, the best part is I took out the wire shelving in that toy closet and had a carpenter install built ins from floor to ceiling and now it is my “Dish Closet” When I get Inspired by your blogs I can walk into my “Dish Closet” and see everything. I do miss those boys and their toys, but this is MY time and I enjoy Playing House. Any suggestions on a better name than “dish closet” (I already have a “Pantry” in the kitchen and a “Butler’s Pantry” beside the dining room) “Dish Closet”……hmmm
PS, tomorrow I’m going to call in a few neighbors for Tea. It’s fall so I am going to serve Russian Tea-a pretty orange color with cinnamon. Thanks ONCE again for the inspiration!

  190. Hi, Susan, I’ve been enjoying your posts since I came across it a few weeks ago. I like your enthusiasm and all the tips you provide. Your pictures are so good and you have wonderful ideas. I am a tea lover so I like the lovely Tea by the fire. I live in S.C. and am a retired teacher. I’m 64 & my husband & I became empty nesters May of 2012 when our younger daughter graduated from college. I’m redoing some rooms now so it’s fun and helpful to see your ideas. You have a lovely home.

    • Leigh, great to meet you! So glad you are here reading! I’m an empty nester, too so I know that feeling well. It’s very bitter sweet…when they fly the nest. Thanks again for your sweet comment. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  191. Susan, I just want to tell you how much I love your blog! I am a nester at heart, but I work full time as a secretary. It’s winter here in New Jersey and your beautiful pictures have brightened many of my days; your running comments with your winter tablescapes are so cheerful and inviting! Many times I find myself wishing I could live in your house! I’ve been “visiting your home” for a couple of years now, and have used many of your ideas in my own home. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent and hospitality!

Annie-73-retired. My passion is finding a new place in life for used, older, inexpensive things. I shop mostly in thriftstores for these. I also find props for photo shoots of a national needlepoint magazine from these same sources.
My favorite relaxation is stitching needlepoint and hand knitting. Some of these things are saved to my Greatgrandma box for when those babies begin to arrive (in case I’m not around then they will know I loved them!)

  193. Susan, I just read your 2010 post with the beautiful Lenox tea set, snowball cookies, and fireplace! Three of my favorite Holiday “must haves.” We have a large fireplace in our family room! Love it in the winter. I also have been collecting the Lenox “Winter Greetings” for years now! I think I started the first year they were introduced. I have settings for around 30 at this time. My daughter borrows them for Thanksgiving, and my grandchildren love them. My goal is to continue adding to the pieces so I can leave some to all of my children and grandchildren some day. They have grown up using these especially at Christmas, so I’m hoping to leave a “Memory” for them. I am a retired Elementary School Counselor, married for 54 years to Bob, we have two sons and one daughter. . . and they have blessed us with 11 grandchildren! Life is wonderful, my family is awesome, and we constantly make “memory maker moments” to bind our family close forever! I love your post and I’ve commented on here many, many times! Don’t ever stop posting!

    • Thanks, Rosie! I love that idea, what a lovely gift to leave to all your family! Winter Greetings is my most favorite holiday/winter pattern. I just love it with all the birds! You are truly blessed with a wonderful family! ♥

Hi Susan! Donna from NJ! I so enjoy your blog — everything about it is so much fun and inspiring. Tablescapes, Valentine’s day, your porch and Christmas are my favorites. I am not sure if I already commented on this post, but still enjoyed it just the same. We enjoy our home and reading your blog continues to inspire us each day. Thanks!

    • Thanks so much, Donna–you made my day with your sweet comment. 🙂 I am itching to get back out on the porch…can’t wait for spring!

Very nice designs and very inspiring, I loved the way it is so romantic and interesting article. Continue making inspiring thoughts Miss Susan!

  196. Love the tea parties. There is something so cozy about the idea and when it’s paired with a fire and a beautiful, welcoming setting, it’s heavenly. Like a soft warm blanket for a chilly soul.

Maybe an autumnal tea setting is beckoning…

    Hi Susan!
I live in Vancouver, B.C. Canada and my mom has been telling me about BNOTP for years now. I’ve peeked in now and then but now I’m completely hooked on your blog! I couldn’t believe my eyes when I took a house tour of your “nest” – my home office is very similar to yours – 3 large bookcases side by side, computer/2 desks and a sitting area (I have a narrow sofa from IKEA), though my colors are fallish – browns, greens, burnt oranges, etc. I decorated 2 picture frames with seashells several summers ago while visiting my sister in California; now I want to tackle some chargers with seashells, like yours. Our kids are now in High School, I’m 52 and applying to go back to university for Ph.D. Trying to balance left brain academics, family responsibilities, and creative right brain! We’ve recently invested in white PB every day dishes but am coveting your Copeland Spode Tower in Pink. I have owned Spode Holiday dishes for years but have always LOVED Lenox Winter Greetings. Sigh. So many creative juices to satisfy, so little time 🙂 Keep up your amazing blog!

    • Thanks so much, Glenda–and please thank your Mom (for me) for sharing BNOTP with you. 🙂
What an exciting time for you! So wonderful that you’re going for your Ph.D.! This sounds like a great time to do it now that your children are older. I admire you for taking that on! Your office sounds like the perfect spot for studying, too. 🙂

Spode Holiday is a great Christmas pattern! I have a few pieces, I think just salad plates and love it! Regarding the Copeland Spode pattern in pink, eBay is a good place to look for it if you decide to collect a few pieces or place settings. That’s where I found it many years ago. The seller was selling 6 place settings and I had to work to get it since so many folks were bidding on it. My heart was pounding at the end of that auction! lol
I emailed the seller afterward and told him if he ever came across more of the pattern, I would love 6 more place settings. Turned out he had 6 more, he just hadn’t listed them all. So I ended up buying those from him, as well.
Thanks again for your lovely comment, Glenda. So great “meeting” you! Say “Hi” to your Mom for me! 🙂

Hi Susan, My name is Kimberly, from Indianapolis where is it cold but not much snow. I am a snow bird and travel to North Palm Beach in the winter so see the sun and feel warm. I love your blog for your dishes, table settings. I love your screen porch. It inspired me to turn mine into a sunroom. Also, I enjoy when you show us your favorite or really good buys for our homes. Although I am retired, I still enjoy making my home a better nest. I look forward to reading your blog each week. Love the tea set in front of the fireplace. You have such good ideas for settings in your home.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
