Wow, you guys are amazing! I’m soooo inspired after seeing so many creative “Before and Afters” this past Metamorphosis Monday! We had over 150 participants! If you haven’t had a chance to check them all out, just scroll down to the post below this one and start clicking. There is so much talent and creativity in Blogland!
When my son was in elementary school, I worked in his school for five years as a Media Parapro, assisting the Media Specialist/Librarian. We had many a book fair and I could never resist buying books by the armloads. I always looked for the Caldecott Award and Newbery Metal winners.
If you have young children or grandchildren, Owl Moon by Jane Yolen (illustrated by John Schoenherr) is a delightful book. It was one of my son’s favorite books (and mine) for bedtime reading. It was a winner of the prestigious Caldecott Medal, so you know the pics are wonderful.
Thank your sister for us for sending you this beautiful pictures, Susan! They are AMAZING. We had a tiny little owl that roosted above our pediment above the front door last winter. He was THE cutest little thing. We couldn't believe it when we saw him there. I'm crazy about owls.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday to you…
XO,
Sheila 🙂
I believe that these are the best photographs I have ever seen of owls. Great job!

Amazing! I love these owl pictures. We had a family of owls in our palm tree for 5 years. One day they were gone. I was devastated! Also, love Owl Moon. My kids did too. Thanks for this beautiful post. –Delores

Thank your sister for us for sending you this beautiful pictures. I am very fascinated by owls, and found an immmature Great Horned Owl on the forest floor when I was hiking. It was injured so I held it while waiting for the wildlife rehabilitator to arrive to pick it up. Cornell took good care of it, and then it mostly likely went to a zoo.
Happy Outdoor Wednesday to you
These are wonderful shots of these beautiful creatures. Thanks for the smile this morning. Kathy
Love owls but you hear them more often than see them. I'm not sure I've ever seen a live one in the wild. AWESOME pictures!
Wow! These photos are incredible. Thank your sister for sharing.
We read that book in our home, too.
Stunning photos and the artwork to display them is equally so. I love the one inside the tree trunk, his colors so perfectly match the tree.
Thanks for sharing these today, it WAS a real hoot!
You're right….Outdoor Wednesday is a Hoot!! *GRIN*.
No owls here right now, but we do have a pair of bats accross the street and a few irritating woodpeckers that love our home!!
Beautiful photos! We are bird watchers, we named 46 species last spring in our yard at the bird feeder! I will show my DH these photos..he will really appreciate them! Thank you for sharing.

What beautiful photos! I have always loved owls…and as a Chi Omega, I have a small collection of "owls" from my college days. The book you mentioned is among my favorites.
Just last night, I heard an owl in the woods behind my home. He has been quite elusive, but I did spy him once, in flight. We also have a tiny screech owl who occasionally takes a nap on the ledge of the front post. They are such beautiful creatures!
Jane (artfully graced)
I have two boys for whom I started collecting the Caldecott winners, when they were around two-ish. I'm not that old, but I started with the very first one I was able to order, the 1938 Caldecott "Animals of the Bible" and continued straight through until 1982 "Jumanji" when they were too old to be interested any longer. I had everyone of the winners' books. ("Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" was their favorite.)
Every young mother should have at least some of these fabulous books in their kids library.
The owls were fabulous. I live in Atlanta now, but for 10 years I lived in my own house in McDonough surrounded by trees. I woke up to the sounds of the Carolina Wrens and Cardinals instead of fire engines. I dearly miss my house in the country. Fabulous post as always, Susan….Jackie a HUGE fan.
Susan, The owl pictures are absolutely beautiful! Your blog is always such a treat to visit!!
These photos are so amazing – I love owls. I also am a habitual book fair purchaser! I teach music at an elementary school and always visit the book fair!
Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

Thank you for sharing those gorgeous photos. I love owls and we have them at our farm in S GA. My DH can call them in when we are up there and sitting out on the back deck. I love it when he does that.
Thanks too for the recommendation of the book. Thaat sounds like a great book to get for my twin grandsons who are eight.
Carolyn
Wow! These photos are magnificent and it was such a treat to view them. Although I've only seen our resident owl twice, he likes to hoot late at night and he answers me when I try to "talk" to him. We laugh and wonder if he thinks I might be a potential mate. I didn't know I spoke owl that well! Happy Outdoor Wednesday to you!
My son loves owls. I'll have to be sure to show him this post. These are awesome photos!

Did your sister take these pictures? They are amazing! I love the one with the baby owls.
My daughter loved Caldecott books…we always looked for the seal.
Sue
Wonderful pics, I love them..
I used to teach this to my class every year..
There was a wise old owl who sat in a oak.
The more he saw the less he spoke.
The less he spoke the more he heard.
Why can't we be like that wise old bird?

Susan, I'm happy you posted these photos from your sister. They are amazing! I taught a unit on owls each year when I taught first grade. They are such fascinating creatures. So quiet and majestic. Owl Moon is one of my favorites! If you have time stop by to see the wild backyard visitor I shared today or Outdoor Wednesday. See you soon for TT.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing with us!
These are some of the most beautiful owl photos I've seen. I used to pain wildlife and painted quite a few owls. My favorite was the barn owl.
I loved the owl pictures! They were absolutely breathtaking. My kids always the loved book too! Thanks for sharing.
Susan……"OWL" are you today? Sorry, couldn't resist! Hey, these pics are precious! What a cool post today. Once while visiting the Biltmore Estate in NC they had some exhibits outdoors and there were two rescued owls that were there so you could get to see them up close. They were somehow wired to the posts they sat on, so they couldn't attack me. 🙂 But, how cool it was to see them close up. You be blessed this week friend! We need another FULL day out together hopefully soon! I guess you heard from Debbie (C.O.A.P.A)that a NEW GW is being built on Hamilton Mill. I'm considering taking the day off and making a HUGE day of it. Let me know if it sounds appealing to you. I told Debbie I'd love to go to the grand opening with her, haven't solidified any plans yet though. Let me know if it sounds cool. ~Hugs, ~CC Catherine
I love owls! Thanks Susan
