The book I’m sharing from my library today is one I purchased back in January 2008. That was during the time construction was underway for my screened porch. I was buying just about every “porch” book I could find during those days, looking for ideas and inspiration as I decorated my porch addition.
In the BNOTP Library: Decorating Porches And Decks: Stylish Projects for the Outdoor Room
Author: Suzanne F.E. Tourtillott
3 Things I Like About This Book:
- Tons of ideas for decorating porches, no matter what style you have or plan to build. Book briefly touches on Fabric choices, Lighting, Deck Cleaning and tips for growing/keeping plants on a porch
- Porch decorating styles covered in this book are: Rustic, Bungalow, Queen Anne and Victorian.
- They are several DIY decorating projects with instructions. Some examples of projects found in the book are: 5-Button Envelope Pillow, Ivy Wine Bucket, Twig Topiary Form, Cottage Style Floorcloth, Queen Anne Birdhouse, Rustic Trifold Screen, Painted Table with Flower Design, Gilded Bugs Luminaria (I may try this one since I already have the globes) and a Bubbling Water Garden. There are many, many more, those are just a few of the DIY projects detailed in this book.

I love the one by Paula Wallace…. Didn’t pay attention to the info about the auto until I opened it up at home. Our daughter went to SCAD Savannah so it was extra special!!
I should get some of these books to give me some ideas. Thanks!
That’s a nice edging on the matchstick blind, on the cover. I’ve never seen any designs incorporated in natural blinds. Have you?
I haven’t seen that before, either. They show you how to do it in the book (page 35). Basically they stenciled a design around the outer edge of the porch floor using acrylic paint. Then they carried part of that design onto the bamboo shade. So that design is actually stenciled on the shade. It really does dress it up a bit.
