Welcome to the 826th Tablescape Thursday! I finally figured out why everything is so hectic when I’m here at the Dollhouse. It usually goes like this: Today, I had two appointments scheduled. Just two. I had a shutter company representative stopping by at 8:30 to take an order for some plantation shutters, and later this afternoon I have a meeting/call with a developer to look into a new blog design. That was it—not too crazy, right?
Last night, a company I recently called for an estimate to remove a tree, and who had promised to work me into their schedule, called to say they could come this morning at 8:00 a.m. Since he’s working me in between the huge jobs they have going on right now due to recent storms, I didn’t dare say no because who knows when they could get to me again.
Then, the plumber I called last week about installing a new kitchen faucet, detergent dispenser, lotion dispenser, and replacing the basement utility sink, called to say he could come this afternoon. It seems that the tradesmen who are the most recommended and in demand in this area, are always the ones that don’t give you a date/time right off the bat, but call you when they finally get a break in their schedule. I think that’s how they schedule all their appointments, or maybe it’s just my appointments! lol It ends up making my days crazy, going from 2 appointments to 4 or 5. Yesterday was just as bad, actually worse because the company delivering my desk entirely missed the window of arrival and showed up during an appointment I had for having a new floor done in the garage. Today, I’m running on very little sleep because of the pace I’ve been keeping. I’m truly looking forward to catching up on sleep this weekend!
I have some fun office updates coming up, though, I’ll try to get those posted tomorrow. I can’t wait to hear what you think when you see the desk and another big change I’ve made here in the office. In the meantime, I brought up a ton more dishes with me on this current trip to the Dollhouse. I couldn’t get all the dishes I had packed up into my SUV, but I did get a lot as evidenced by this giant pile of empty boxes here in the dining room.
I’ve been playing around with various arrangements, and I’ve already made a few changes since this picture was taken. Ignore the red boxes—I left the Waterford 12 Days of Christmas champagne flutes in their boxes, since all these shelves will probably have to be unloaded once I get around to having glass-pane doors made for the shelves. Still gotta get estimates for that. I wish I could clone myself right now.
You may remember that the lower half of the cabinet on the far right had wood doors covering it.
I removed those and have stored them away in the basement, since I’d love to have glass-pane style doors across all the cabinets here in the dining room.
A few more photos of some of the arrangements I’ve been playing with.
I really don’t have the shelves filled, I was just playing around to see how things looked. I’m sure once I bring more dishes up, things will get a bit tighter.
I started moving some of the glassware onto the shelves with the dinnerware, instead of storing it all on one section of the shelving. I think the shelves look much more interesting that way—seeing some of the glassware paired with the dinnerware.
Those stacks you’re seeing on the lower shelf will probably get more consolidated once I bring up additional dishes. I wish I could have fit all the ones in the dining room and living room into my SUV this trip, but there were just too many other things I needed to bring up.
I brought up some of my salt cellars and knife rests. They won’t be stored here on the shelves, I just placed them here for now.
You may remember from a previous post about the Dollhouse that the mail slot on the front porch drops the mail here on the dining room shelves. So when my mailman leaves mail in the mailbox slot, it ends up behind the little door. For grins and giggles, I placed a silver platter there so I can say that all my bills get delivered to me on a silver platter. 😉 Har, har, har!
A few days ago, I checked my mail and saw what looked like REAL mail inside, not just another sales flyer.
It was a lovely card from Norma, whose tables I share from time to time. Norma said that they don’t have cards available in France (where she lives) that are in celebration of moving to a new home, so she had a friend get this one for her from England. I thought that was so sweet that she took the time to do that, and I appreciate it so much! I will cherish it forever and love displaying it here on the bookshelves in the living room of the Dollhouse. Can’t remember if I’ve shared this story, but after I bought the dollhouse, but was still staying with my son and hadn’t actually moved in, one day when the mailman was delivering mail to my son’s home, I introduced myself and mentioned that I had just purchased the house that was a few houses up the street. The mailman, with a knowing smile, said, “Oh, I know.” I asked how he knew, and he said, “I know everything!” Hahaha! He has a great sense of humor and this community is so small and tight-knit, I shouldn’t be surprised to find that news travels quickly, especially when you’re the mailman. lol
Watch out for some office updates very soon! The desk has finally arrived, and I have some other pretty cool plans for the office that I’m looking forward to sharing!
If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links. Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.
I love all the shelves and china. Were they from your dining room ? You still have all those from the cabinets in the garage to move?
I did not receive an email today and just searched BNOTP. I don’t see any other comments. Did something happen ?
I don’t think the emails have gone out yet, since the post just went up on the blog. They should be going out within the next 30-45 minutes. Yes, these are all from the dining room, but this isn’t everything from the dining room. I should be able to bring up the rest on my next trip up.
You are AMAZING!
Aww, thanks Karol!
XXX
Honestly, with all you do/accomplish each day, I wonder if you ever sleep!
So fun to see some of your pretty tableware collections in your (soon-to-be) cabinets!
I’m looking forward to seeing all your plans come to life in your dollhouse!
Not enough! lol I hope to slow down a bit after this next week. I can’t believe all that I’ve been able to get done this time up, all important stuff, so that feels great. Hopefully, things will slow down real soon. Thanks, MerriJo! I can’t wait to get doors on those shelves!
Even with ALL the work…you have t/b having fun deciding what goes here, there, everywhere!! Your china collection is an example!! You know…I still “tweak” after all these years…(couldn’t “twerk” if I wanted to!!) GO GAL!!! franki
Tweaking is so much fun! Yeah, I with you on the twerking! lol
You have a great eye for displaying your china. I love the mix of glassware and dishes together. The mail slot and door are so unique and speak to the quaint style of the DollHouse. You are so lucky to have a mailman dedicated to the neighborhood. Where we live the mail delivery is done by different drivers every day and never at the same time. Could be early morning to late at night. USPS is not the same as it used to be. What a nice wish from afar and a cute card to keep as a remembrance. Keep up the good work, but rest too!
I know, it’s like Mayberry RFD, living here. Everyone knows him and he’s so nice! If he’s walking back by on the way back to his truck and sees you on the porch, he waves. Just really like living in another time, living here.
That’s how it is in my neighborhood back in GA, constantly changing out the mail carriers, and you absolutely never know when it will be delivered. I’ve even had it delivered after 6 or 7 at night before. I guess they are badly understaffed, or something. Thanks, Sherry! Good advice!
It’s so much fun watching you on your new journey! You have accomplished so much already! I anxiously await every update. Bravo to you and wishes of much happiness in your new home.

I am so envious of your most beautiful shelving unit space in your dining room. So much space to display all your precious beautiful dishes and glassware.
I love love it! I also got such a chuckle in seeing the silver tray to catch your mail and your funny witty comment about it. lol
I share in your excitement of moving into your Dollhouse Dream Home.
You are so lucky!
Susan, could you share the brand of the beautiful green stemware with your Lenox Holiday dinnerware? Love how you combined the stemware with the dishes…looks great!
Thanks, Johnelle! I wish it had a brand name or something like that etched on the bottom…or some way to identify it. I’ve had it for several years, and it seems like I found it in HomeGoods.
There I was on Pinterest searching- again, and to my surprise Home Depot has a deck like the home in GA. (I don’t see it when you visit site). Someone else has a sloping back yard like yours and they made tiers blocked in, full of plants. Your dollhouse has such potential, and so many projects to blog about. We are so excited for you.
Ha! I love that about your mail carrier – you’re going to fit right into that little community! And I love your silver tray. It’s the little things! Thanks for sharing this round, and good luck with all the contractors. I hope they can get your jobs done pretty soon and you can get some sleep! Thanks as always for hosting, and Happy Weekend!
I need a nap just reading this post! Susan, you are amazing! You’re right about the mailman knowing all. He or she is always the first person I look for if I see a lost dog around. They definitely know where all of them belong!
Our mailman posts on our neighborhood FB page when people’s dogs or cats get out. (He seems to know before the owners even realize their dog found a way out of the fenced yard) They certainly do know where all the animals belong & they seem to always know what’s going on in the neighborhood (lol)!
Looking great! I hope you can bring those nice shelving units you bought for your garage in GA. The thought of moving horrifies me, but I guess we all have one more move in us. I wish I could move to Ireland! Ha,Ha!
Oh Susan. I can relate. I feel as exhausted as you do, except you seem to be getting much more accomplished. I am lurching from one wearying project to another, with just a tad of downtime in between. Sometimes life seems so out of control!
But your shelves look beautiful and I know you had a ball doing them up like that. You will probably have fun trying different configurations and maybe even change out some sets before you are completely settled. As much as those shelves hold, I know you could easily use just as many more (and probably even more!) to house all your beautiful dishware. Any chance the opposite side of the room could also house some (new) shelves? 😉
I laughed at how cute that little silver tray is in your mail deposit spot. So adorable and perfect. I’d leave it there if I were you.
You know, your nickname for your house is apt. Because it honestly seems like you’re playing Dollhouse, fixing everything up and decorating, just like a little girl would do with her own dollhouse. I hope you’re able to keep plowing through and getting all these things finished to your satisfaction. I completely relate to your workman woes. It’s exhausting, but you’re making great progress. Please just take care of yourself along the way. ( Hugs. ) xoxo
Susan, I love that you will now be able to see and enjoy all your lovely sets of dishes. You could start a whole new segment on your blog….Shelf Shuffle where you share how you change out how you display your dishes! :o) Will the other dishware you have, and flatware and pieces remain in your basement? You have such an amazing collection! So fun following you along in your new venture in your new home! Please take time to get some rest too!
Does your mailman actually come to side your house to put it in that box? It looks like the other side of shelving is inside??!!
The mailman walks from house to house and drops the mail into the mail slot on the outside that’s located on the porch. That’s the way it is here, the mail is delivered door to door. When he puts the mail into the little slot on the exterior, it falls down and lands inside the mailbox. To access the mail from inside, I just open the little door. In my son’s home, the little door is to the left of their front door so if the box gets full, it falls onto the foyer floor. You can see the mail slot on the outside of my home in this photo.
I love the pictures and hearing all about your new adventure. Envious that you are getting to live so near your grandsons.
Wow, you have so much energy. Enjoy it.
My childhood home had a mail slot in the wall. Ours was almost level with the floor and the outside slot was probably four feet from the ground. How are you going to work glass doors around the a/c vent? Wouldn’t it be easier if the bottom shelves kept solid doors (both sides)? I like how you put your glassware with the china.
