Favorites Shoes For Spring & Summer, Plus A Find For My Guest Bath

Yay! We have sunshine today, and we had it yesterday, too. That’s two days of sunshine in a row! We are on a roll, and I am so happy!  Ha! It really is starting to feel like summer is on its way. I have some spring/summer pretties to share today that I know will put a smile on your face.

Before we dive into summer, I need to share this awesome find. Several weeks ago, when I was attending one of my grandsons’ baseball games, it was freezing out, and I realized all my winter beanies/hats were back in Georgia. I looked online, not expecting to find much this time of year, and lucked out! I found this beautiful 100% Merino Wool knitted hat, all the way from Ireland! It’s currently on sale for 20% off, making it around $23. That’s a steal for a 100% Merino wool hat from Ireland! They have it available in three neutral colors that will go with just about any outerwear. I purchased the gray, but I’m thinking of going for the oatmeal color today before the sale ends. That price is just too good to pass up, and I’ll be all prepared for next winter. Not sure how long the sale will last, but for now, it’s available here: Irish Knitted Cable Hat, 100% Merino Wool. You can see more of their beautiful knits, including some gorgeous sweaters, here: Beautiful Knits from Ireland.

Remember these adorable floral sneakers I purchased while on a trip to Breckenridge, Colorado, with family this past winter?

They are currently on sale, reduced from $135 to $89.90 with the code SUMMER. That’s a great price for such beautiful summer sneakers! I paid a lot more when I bought them in Colorado! You’ll find them available here: Daisy Sneakers.

I just noticed they have the same design in sandals, and I’m very tempted to order them. So cute! You’ll find the sandals available here: Adorable Daisy Sandals.

I love these daisy flats, they are adorable! You’ll find them available here: Daisy Flats.

In a previous post, I shared these leather sneakers from New Balance that I purchased after one of mine vanished on the way back from Breckenridge. I’ve always liked New Balance after a podiatrist once told me they were the brand she recommended to all her patients. (These sneakers are available here: New Balance Sneakers.)

After wearing and enjoying my new leather sneakers for the last few weeks, I’ve had sneakers on the brain. I decided to add a non-leather pair to my summer wardrobe that would be cute with the white shorts I live in during the summer months. I came across a sneaker by a company that I’ve never heard of before, named Hoka. The brand was created by two French runners who wanted a sneaker that made running downhill more comfortable and effortless. Have you ever worn Hokas before? I love the flying bird logo that is on all of their sneakers, but it was their fun colors that drew me in. (They have plenty of sneakers available in neutral colors, too.) This is the pair that I purchased. In person, the lavender color is more muted than it appears in this photo. They are light and comfortable and feel very stable/secure when walking in them, probably due to their wider base design. I don’t like sneakers that have mushy, overly-soft soles that make you feel like you’re rocking and rolling as you walk. These feel nice and stable! They are also available in different widths, which is nice. I stayed with the standard B width, and those fit great. You’ll find the ones I purchased here: Hoka Sneakers.

I can’t do a summer shoe post without mentioning Ecco sandals, a favorite sandal of mine for summer. They are super comfortable and adjustable, which makes them great for picky feet like mine. I find them super secure and stable for walking or hiking. Love them! You’ll find them available in a lot of great color combos here: Ecco Sandals.

I just ordered these for working and digging in the Dollhouse garden. I don’t have any garden shoes/boots here, and I wanted some good boots that I could get dirty and wouldn’t have to worry. These have outstanding reviews, so I can’t wait to try them. They are arriving tomorrow, and I will be putting them to work right away! If you could use some great gardening boots, you’ll find these available in different styles/colors here: Muck Boots for the Garden.

Big changes are coming for my downstairs guest bath, including eliminating the overly large towel rack in that small bathroom. I may add a smaller one in a different location where it’s not sticking out so much into the room. In the meantime, I have ordered this pretty hand towel holder. Quick story: Many years ago, I had a small gathering of friends at my home for a game night. During a break in the game action, one of the guests came out of the bathroom and profusely thanked me for having paper hand towels available. He made a pretty big deal out of it, so it was obvious that it was very important to him. Later that evening, after everyone had left, I kept thinking about that interaction. It made sense because who wants to go to a large party or gathering, and during the evening, when you visit the powder room, have to dry your hands on an already-damp towel that’s been used by everyone at the party all evening. So now, whenever I have a party or any gathering, I always have quality, disposable hand towels available in my guest bath. His appreciation for that small gesture made such a huge impression on me that night.

So this is the one I’ve ordered for my guest bath; it should arrive today. I really like its open, airy design; that’s the feeling I want in that bathroom. It would be great for an outdoor summer party, too. You’ll find it available here: Pretty Holder for Hand Towels.

If you’re looking for a gift for a little girl, this jewelry box that is currently on sale would be perfect. It can be personalized with the recipient’s name.

It plays Swan Lake when opened. Sooo sweet! It also comes in white, but the white may not be on sale. I just love it!   You’ll find the pretty lavender version on sale here: Musical Jewelry Box.

Happy weekend! Hope you are seeing and feeling lots of sunshine today!

  1. I love disposable hand towels for the guest bathroom. You can also buy
seasonal ones that are so pretty. Don’t forget you can decoupage with them.
Susan, which foot was the missing shoe for ? Friday when I went out the front door, there was one used sneaker laying on the walkway. It never occurr to me that it fell out of an airplane ! LOL
We are hoping for rain. So hot at 91 °
Last week it was nearly 100°
Have a nice Memorial Day remembering those who served.
BTW Did you get a new flag pole?

    • lol I don’t remember now which foot it was. I’m sure it’s at the lost and found in the Denver airport or thrown away by now. Yes, I replaced the holder for the second time. I hope this one doesn’t break in half during the next storm. I hope you get some rain, Myrna!

  2. I often see Hoka sneakers recommended on Facebook travel pages I belong to. Everyone seems to love how comfortable they are when you’re on your feet all day!

  3. All the nurses and nurse practitioners I know are wearing Hokas. And of course they are on their feet all day, so it seems a great recommendation. I haven’t tried them yet, guess I need to do so.

  4. I have the same style Muck boots been using them for a couple of years but I have switched over to barefoot shoes which are healthier for your feet. They are available in a number of styles. I bought a pair of waterproof barefoot boots because it has been raining what feels like forever here in Pennsylvania. It has been going down to the 40’s at night. The sun actually made an appearance today!

I love Hokas and also my new favorite Brooks Ghost Max, much more comfortable to me and fit me better, it’s like walking on a cloud. You can buy them at Up and Running on Far Hills Avenue in Centerville, they fit you and watch you walk or run in them. I am from Kettering and currently live in Cedarville (north East of Xenia) I have been following you for many years. Welcome to Ohio! Love your blog and look forward to them. Also love your monthly recommendations of items you have bought and love. I have bought many items from your suggestions, you are right on!

  6. Christy Keyton says

I have two pairs of Hokas. They are so comfortable! They were recommended to me by my physical therapist!

  7. Susan I am a huge fan of Hoka’s! They are the best for fitness work outs, foot support and stability. My fitness trainer converted most of our class…. I bought the black ones for our recent trip toAsia, the best for uneven sidewalks and hiking! You will never look back, give them a try!

  8. You will like the Hokas. I’ve been wearing them for years after the orthopedist’s PA recommended them along with my DIL who is a runner.

  9. Hi Susan, I only wear Hokas now (for 5 years now!). They are so comfy and supportive. Their website also has a quiz to help you figure out which ones to buy, depending on your activity and preferences. I know so many health care professionals who wear this brand. I don’t see myself changing brands any time soon. Keep an eye on Nordstrom for Hokas on sale too, I have gotten some good deals there.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
