Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome to the 170th Tablescape Thursday!

This past weekend I began putting together a table setting for Tablescape Thursday.  On Sunday evening, as I was sitting at the computer finishing up my Metamorphosis Monday post, Max kitty walked across in front of the keyboard and onto the left side of my desk.  I picked him up to put him down on the floor since I can’t work very well with him in that spot.  Some how—still not sure how it happened–Max took some papers on the desk, along with my camera that had been sitting on the papers, to the floor with him.  The camera broke apart into two pieces, with the lens flying across the room.  Waaaaa….

The next morning I took it to a Nikon repair center and as I sit typing this Monday evening, I’m not sure when I’ll have it back.  So tempting to run out and upgrade to that Nikon D5100 I’ve lusted after–but I will resist.

Update: Wednesday evening:  I have good news and bad news.  The bad news: I found out Tuesday morning that they can’t get the part to repair my Nikon D40 for a 8-9 weeks, possibly longer.  This is due to a shortage of camera parts caused by the tsunami that hit Japan a while back and now the floods in Thailand.

Now for the good news:  resistance was futile.  I just finished charging the battery on a Nikon D5100.  I couldn’t face Thanksgiving without a camera.  Should I “thank” Max for pushing me off the fence?

No time to play with it now–there’s still cooking to be done, but I really liked the two test pics I took here in the office.  So nice having “live view” again and I think I’ll like the vari-angle monitor for taking tablescape photos.  (HERE’s a 3 minute video about this camera it if you would like to check it out.)

So, though I don’t have pictures of a new tablescape to post for this Tablescape Thursday, due to camera issues this week, I have something a whole lot better.   I pulled up last year’s Thanksgiving tablescape and as I reviewed that post, I realized this was the post with all the beautiful expressions of “thanksgiving” by you.  These beautiful words were left on Facebook last year and I included as many as I could in last year’s Tablescape Thursday post.  They are as meaningful and beautiful this year as they were when they were left last Thanksgiving. Your words say more than any post I could have written for today.

Happy Thanksgiving, dear friends!  I hope this Thanksgiving finds you surrounded by the ones you love.  And I pray the dreams and hopes you expressed last year have come to past.  What are you hoping for and dreaming of this year?  What brings you joy and comfort and fills your heart with thanksgiving today?

Last December 18 our family lost our home and all the contents to a house fire….years of collecting and memories. The support from family and friends this year has been amazing! I am blessed. ~Denise~

I’m most grateful for my wonderful expanding family and most especially for my fantastic son of whom we are all very proud. He joined the army when he was just 17 and now ten years later, he is a Sargent and serving in Iraq! We are so very proud of him and grateful to all those who serve our country in such a selfless and brave way. God bless to all our service members, both on foreign soil, and here in the USA! We love and appreciate each one of you! ~Marlon~

I…..AM…..THANKFUL! There are many material things that make our lives comfortable and though I am thankful for them all, I am most thankful for the gift of love. Love allows me to reach beyond petty things and embrace those who are sometimes unlovable. And of course, even larger, love allows me to receive love an…d forgiveness when I’m rude angry or bitter. Love conquers all and makes my heart soar when I gather around the table with those near and dear to me. I’m simply amazed and thankful that so much love can even be shared with those we’ve never met via blogs, facebook and other wonderful sites. ~Donna~

I am thankful for the simple things in life.. for instances when your family wipes their feet when entering the house after you have spent all day cleaning! or the chickadees singing at the bird feeder in the morning. ~Joy~

This is my very first Thanksgiving on my own. Moved across the country this year and will be away from family. Even though I miss them I am sure grateful to be lucky enough to take on this adventure. ~Ellie~

Had 7 months of chemo and surgery and 30 days of extensive radiation treatments. I am currently cancer-free and SO thankful to be alive and thankful for everyone who prayed for me! ~Faith~

I am thankful for my family and our health. Our son is deployed and I will miss him and our sweet daughter in law this holiday season. Keep our military families in your prayers. ~Anita~

This year my family and I are so very blessed and thankful that are all together for the first time in 20 years! If If ever I had to give the meaning of “Thanksgiving” I would say this is it,family love and great cooking! ~Terry~

  26. Hi Susan- That's terrible about your camera! I just picked out a new Nikon for myself too! I didn't want an SLR though so I didn't go the route of the D5100. Your table from last year was beautiful and rich with tradition!
I'm thankful to be visiting my Mom (89 yrs old) and the rest of my family. Each holiday becomes more precious as the years fly by. I'm thankful for my son and his new wife's marriage and for my daughter's new stage in life and being on her own. Most of all I'm thankful for good health!

  36. Linda (More Fun Less Laundry) says

Hi Susan, I hope you don't get duplicate messages from me as I am having trouble publishing my comment! I purchased the d5100 this spring and have been enjoying it tremendously all summer. I also purchased an additional lens for more telephoto capability. I don't think your current Nikon lens will work with this camera (actually not sure on that) so I am very interested to see what you add for macro and telephoto. I think my favorite part of this camera is the tilting screen, which allowed me to take pictures of the baby birds in my umbrella! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Linda

  37. Kelly Marie McKee says

Happy Thanksgiving! Congrats on the new camera. I just upgraded from a Nikon D40x to a Nikon D7000 (early Christmas present from my beloved!) So excited!

I look forward to seeing pics from your new camera!

  38. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you had a wonderful time with your family. I must admit, I am very jealous of your new camera. I have had a Nikon D50 for years and have been very happy with it…until my Dad bought a D5100 this year! I have been playing with it and it is so much fun. There are so many fun features and the pictures are amazing. I have to keep telling myself that my camera still works fine and that I do not need a new camera…but it is not working very well. Ha Ha.
Enjoy your new camera and have a wonderful weekend.
    Sandra

  39. I love this tablescape its beautiful. I also loved reading all the "thankful" comments between the photos, what a lovely post. It has made me realise I must be more thankful for the good things that happen amongst the most difficult time of my life.

    Thank you

    Lee

  40. Aksel Bratvedt says

Oh.. its so frustrating to have a broken camera during this season when all you want to do is to take pictures of every single moment with your family. Anyway, that was a very nice table set up.It looks expensive..I love the plates with turkey prints on it! Happy Thanksgiving!

  41. Tamera Beardsley says

Stunningly heartfelt post…but it did take a while to read… through the massive amount of tears it generated in me!
