I Didn’t Think Elena Could Top Her Safari Tablescape, But She Did!

Welcome to the 825th Tablescape Thursday! Happy Thursday from the Dollhouse. Yesterday, I made the long 8-9 hour drive back and it’s been non-stop since I arrived. I had my SUV packed to the gills with boxes of dishes and stemware, my older Air Fryer, a folding table, a summer firescreen, tons of books, DVDs, Disney movies that my son enjoyed when he was growing up, and a bunch of sweaters to store away in the recently-discovered (by me) cedar chest. I got everything unpacked and out of the car last night and today will be spent cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. The carpet in the basement was professionally cleaned this morning, which has me running a bit behind. The yard is looking so much better, and I’m looking forward to sharing that with you very soon.

Last week, I shared a wonderful animal/safari themed table that Elena put together. I didn’t think it was possible to top that table, but Elena has done it!

Dramatic Sarari Themed Tablescape

Your comments inspired Elena to do a Part 2, and she even incorporated some of your suggestions into the table.”

Elena said, “Since all the items for the Safari table were out, my family helped me extend the table and add a few more things over the weekend.  I also took Sandra’s suggestion and put some greenery and Bird of Paradise flowers in the vases.”

“I used a long fringed scarf as a runner on this one.”

I love the added greenery and how Mr. Monkey looks like he’s in an exotic jungle setting! Elena said, “We added Rhino book ends (Home Goods) with a few vintage books, my monkey took center stage, and I added two elephants. The ceramic one is vintage, the darker metal one is from Pier One. There are a few baskets on the table as well.”

Oh my gosh, I love everything! This feels so nostalgic with the binoculars and the old books. ♥

Love this overhead view! This table is so charming—I love every single element of the centerpiece!

The dinnerware Elena used in her safari themed table is Tropical Jungle by Siddhia Hutchinson and is stamped: Andrea by Sadek.

Love the salad plates! Elena said, “The last photo shows how the chargers look with a dinner plate on them, I don’t think enough of the charger shows around the edge.” I do like how the bamboo edge is peeking out, though.

Elena said, “The pieces at the head of the table were my husband’s idea. They are a nod to the John Wayne movie of 1962, “Hatari. In the movie, Wayne heads up a group of men who catch wild animals in Africa and sell them to zoos. A female photographer joins the group and changes the way they think about what they are doing. Many nights, after some good catches, they drink and smoke cigars. At least they weren’t shooting any of the animals! Glad things have changed since then and Safari’s are now photographic!”

I absolutely love that Elena’s hubby contributed to this table, and now I want to see the movie!

What a fun, whimsical table setting! Thanks so much to Elena and her family for sharing this delightful, safari-inspired table. I love how they all contributed in their own way.

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links. Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.

  1. Elena, you made my day. Feeling under the weather and this cheered me up. Awesome. Younger people don’t remember decorated store windows and staging. Years ago I met a man and that was his job- going from one store to another. There are some florist with big windows who still stage. So happy tablescapes and vignettes are so popular today. When I started I covered books to get my different heights. Then I found Lucite file folder holders that were U shaped that I turned over for stands.
Can’t wait to check on the other postings today.
    Thanks Susan and Elena.

    • So glad it made you feel better!!! My father had a flower shop in Manhattan when I was young……I know exactly what you mean! His windows were wonderful, the floral arrangements were stunning! I love the idea of using stands for height, I will have to use that! Hope you are feeling 100% !!!!!

  2. Wow, just when you thought it couldn’t get any better….it does! Love the new additions to Elena’s table setting, the old books and binoculars are fabulous and of course love Mr. Monkey front and center. But then to top it off was her husband’s idea for the table….love, love, love that! Yes, I want to watch the movie too…probably have long, long ago…but definitely need to watch it again. Hugs, Brenda

    • I should have watched it again for some inspiration, but I don’t think I could add another thing! LOL!

There is something about safari life that makes you forget all your sorrows and feel as if you had drunk half a bottle of champagne…or “1738”… ❤️

  4. Ohmygosh – how totally fun! Elena has done it again! I love all the additions, and the whole safari flair. How great that the family got involved, too. Fabulous! Sounds like you’re diving right in up there – the Dollhouse is going to be so perfectly you! Thanks so much for sharing and hosting!

  5. As I started reading this blog today I thought, “This table reminds me of the John Wayne movie, “Hatari”! One of my favorites. Sure enough then she mentioned it. Great table and very inspiring! Susan, don’t work too hard—right, you are a driven woman with more energy than 3 people!! Can’t wait to see your new rooms.

    • So funny, I never thought about the movie until my husband mentioned it…..he’s a John Wayne fan and we’ve watched it so many times I should have!!!!

  6. Susan, how exciting to get another load of items moved into the Dollhouse! You’re such a fast worker to get it all unpacked so quickly!

Elena, the revised table is fantastic! I’m so happy to see Mr. Monkey taking pride of place in the center of everything.

  7. Elena…..The table is very nostalgic looking to me, so fun. The greenery balances out the other colors in the tableware so nicely too. Love seeing items you would not normally find in a table setting…that gets the conversations going!

    • Thanks so much Rosie! I actually did not think about the greenery! In last week’s table there was nothing in the vases and another reader suggested it!!!

  8. Wow, Elena, I’m so impressed, the greens and additions took this over the top. You never know when a well meaning suggestion is going to be taken wrong. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I spent years as a faux floral and wedding designer, so I’m always looking at what could be done…Beautiful! Sandi

  9. I really enjoyed this table. I have the pair of these monkeys, and I don’t use them nearly often enough. I also saw them on a Seinfeld episode, so I thought that was interesting. They belonged to my mother at one point, and I inherited them. I absolutely love them, and keep them on display all of the time tucked in among plants in the conservatory. I think I need to do a monkey table now.

    • ABSOLUTELY do a monkey table!!! My safari table started with Susan’s “use what you have” suggestion that often comes up in her posts. It was amazing how many things I used that were around the house!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
