Jackie Has Done It Again! She Transformed Her Home For A Murder Mystery Party!

Welcome to the 875th Metamorphosis Monday! Every year, Jackie hosts an exciting Halloween party for friends and family. Each year, she chooses a different theme. I am always excited to see what she has planned for her guests!

Jackie wrote, “Just had my annual event at my home this past weekend. I changed it up a little. It was a Murder Mystery Party called Death of a Gangster. The invitations said:

A 1920’s Mafia Marriage Murder Mystery Available Ratings: Adults, No Restrictions

Lucky you! You’ve been invited to the Dunn Speakeasy for the wedding of the year! In this “married to the mob” event, you’ll never know who to trust. With the two families merging together, someone is bound to lose power, which means someone else will lose their life! Get on the trolley and solve this case with your fellow detectives.

Dress like the cat’s meow for this mafia wedding! Flapper dresses, zoot suits, feather boas and headbands, pinstriped suits and fedoras are all appropriate. Traditional wedding attire is nifty too!

1920s wardrobe…

Jackie shared, “For the different rooms: I set up the living room to seat 52 guests at rounds. It was a chore – but of course well worth it!

Jackie covered the living room walls with 1920s damask peel-and-stick wallpaper to set the mood. Wow! That must have been a lot of work, but it looks amazing!

Jackie said, “The centerpieces were fun to create with feathers and ivy leaves.”

Jackie explained how she created her speakeasy bar, saying, “I collected booze bottles from neighbors, my hotel, and, of course, my own consumption and filled them with brown water to create the speakeasy bar.”

Jackie said, “In the Library I created a mobster bootlegging room showing pictures of a distillery, with two mobsters planning their next job.”

Those barrels are so pretty!

This scene makes me think of the pizza delivery scene in the movie, Home Alone. Ha!

His partner in crime…

Jackie shared, “The dining room had a faux wedding cake made of plaster and gold flowers.”

“The bride and groom were in the room as well.”

Love how Jackie carries a theme throughout her home. Every room is a fun surprise for guests, including the bathrooms! Jackie said, “Bathrooms were decorated, the men’s room with 1920 casino photos.”

“The ladies’ room had photos of women from the 1920s, old perfume bottles, and my grandmother’s gloves—1920s for sure.”

Thanks so much to Jackie for inviting us in for this fabulous 1920s Murder Mystery party! I know the guests must have had the best time ever, and the 1920s costumes/fashion must have been amazing!

Oh my WORD! We’re in the presence of greatness!! Jackie added temporary wallpaper!! I’m totally going to do that sometime! And added theme vignettes in all the rooms?! (I have storage envy!) This must have taken months to plan and prepare! Love, Love, LOVE it!

Well done, Jackie! And thank you so much for sharing, Susan!

Thank you so much Selma. The planning started this time last year and the decorating in July. I thought it was going to be easy since I hired a theatre company to do the performance, but once the ideas started brewing – it was difficult to stop it. My favorite was the faux wedding cake 🙂

  4. Jackie sure does go all out!

  5. Wow….that was a party of all parties. How fun it would have been to attend! I can only imagine. What kind of food did she serve? Just curious. I love the attention to detail….changing pictures, adding wallpaper….oh my that was an effort of love for her friends! Who could top that? Great job and creativity Jackie.

Hello Toni, Thank you for your kind comments. I served an Italian feast to include Chicken Piccata and Shrimp scampi over pasta. The food ended up so yummy – it was a local Chef I found at a friends event 2 years prior. I was just waiting for the right event to use him!

  6. Oh my goodness. This is amazing and Jackie is so creative. I had to go rest just reading about all she did to achieve this. She must plan this all year.

Thank you Jillian. It was a year of planning. I keep a notebook at my bedside and when I thought of ideas for the different rooms, I would jot them down. It was a super fun event to plan!

  7. Oh my goodness! I was just recently wondering what Jackie was up to and why we hadn’t heard from her in a while. Now I know! I can’t believe she did all that work with the wallpaper. That room looks incredible! Everything looks great! What fun her guests must have. I vote Jackie host a party for those of us at BNOTP, next!

Thank you Pam. Yes – I was very busy. That wallpaper was a treat – ha! I bought it on Amazon and each roll started in a different place on the pattern. I also just recently adopted a new puppy – she loved helping me hang the paper (if you know what I mean). Ha ha – I had to wrestle with her a few times to get it out of her mouth to hang on the wall. It was a party to remember.

  8. I forgot to mention the clothes and furs she got. And what about all the mannequins? We need more details! It seems Jackie planned this down to the nth degree. I would love to hear more about her process and the things she procured to decorate. Oh, and those centerpieces are exactly like something you would have seen in the 20s. Such a fun project. I bet everybody had a ball.

  9. Oh my gosh! I’m so impressed with all the details and effort!! Amazing and Jackie had to manage the murder mystery during the party too!! Would love to know more about the mystery and how Jackie organized all of that!

Hi Julie – I actually hired a company called The Murder Mystery Company – they made that part of it very simple. It was a grand time! You just tell them how many guests and pick from a few themes. They are a nationwide company. I would highly recommend.

  10. Okay, Jackie is this year’s winner for creativity and hard work !

  11. Thanks so much for hosting this charming party!!! I truly do appreciate it as I do know the time involved with it….I hope you and your family are well and enjoying your week!

  12. WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW – that is absolutely remarkable. I don’t even have the right words. I am truly speechless. She is AMAZING for doing this – holy smokes! WOW!!!!!!!

  13. Well I am definitely BLOWN AWAY! Too fabulous! I can’t even imagine the amount of work/time it took to stage all of that so beautifully. Great job, Jackie!

  14. The event of the year or will Jackie overshadow this party with Christmas! This is so fantastic and thanks for sharing. So much creative and hard work…just imagine doing the peel and stick in your own living room and setting up tables for 52!! Imagine getting the invitation with all the details. Love all the 1920’s touches throughout.

Kathleen, Thank you for your comments. The table settings were my favorite. I did not have to rent anything – I just made sure that everything matched at each table. I had all the dishes that matched and used a few flatware sets that I own. I think the guests were very impressed when they walked in 🙂

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
