Funny how things work out sometimes. Just a few weeks ago, I was complaining about how almost every lamp I come across in stores these days is designed with a drum shade, my least favorite style of lamp shade. The main thing I don’t like about drum shades is how open they are at the top, how they don’t taper. The glare they create in your face when passing by one when it’s on an end table or side table is so blinding! I had that issue with this lamp that I purchased for the porch many years ago. I liked this shade a bit better since it was square and not the same old boring, round drum shade, but I still would have preferred a lamp with a shade in a more tapered design. Unfortunately, I knocked this one over while vacuuming the porch one day, and the fall put a big hole in the section just beneath the round/ball part where it connected to its tall base. I tried to repair it since I loved the color, but it never looked the same. If I ever come across it in a store (unlikely to happen) I would buy it again.

Imagine my surprise when I stopped by HomeGoods a week or two back, and instead of isle after isle of drum shades, I saw so many lamps with beautiful, interesting shades! They had several of these small, square-shaped lamps, each bearing a description of a particular type of tea.

Another lamp with a pretty-shaped shade.

I couldn’t get over all the lamps they had in stock that DID NOT have drum shades. When did the tide turn? Does this mean the popularity of the ubiquitous drum shade is finally starting to fade?

This lamp looks like the type of lamp you would find in Pottery Barn Teen, doesn’t it? So cute!

I saw several cat-themed lamps.

Such a cute bunny lamp!

I don’t know why I liked this beetle lamp so much, because I definitely would not want to ever hold a beetle. But I loved the design! Where would one use a lamp like this? Maybe in a home library? I kinda regret not buying it now.

So many festive, colorful lamps!

Love the birdie lamp! It looks like they are drinking from a birdbath, doesn’t it? I didn’t notice that lamp when I was in the store, but noticed it later when I looked closer at the photos I had taken.

Another one of the cute “Tea” lamps—I think they also had one in a green color scheme, if I’m remembering correctly.

I had trouble making out the design of this lamp, but it appears to be an outdoor scene. Is that a stream or river?

I saw several lamps with toile fabric shades.

They even had wicker lamps. Have you ever seen so many different kinds of shades in one store‽

These two pink lamps with drum shades were very pretty and feminine. I was surprised by how many large lamps I saw while shopping—perfect for homes with large rooms and high ceilings. These would be beautiful in the right setting—maybe a bedroom?

Not a lamp, but I thought this was an interesting way to display books. These were actual vintage books that had been bundled and tied together with jute/yarn. If you like this look, it would be easy to recreate with books found in thrift stores or antique shops.

Thanks for going lamp shopping with me! Wonder if that beetle lamp is still there. lol See you tomorrow for Tablescape Thursday!

Thank you for sharing so many pretty and interesting lamps. I certainly like the beetle lamp too! And the bird themed lamp was very sweet too! Maybe it’s time to trade one of my lamps out.
It is super cute, if insects can be cute. lol
I was with you on trying to find a lamp. My neighbor gave me two lamps that unfortunately got wet. I saved the lampshades because it’s not only hard to find pretty shades but they are expensive now. I have saved a ton of money since I am not driving to Home Goods and Michael’s.
I like the bug lamp too. Very unique.
Did you buy any of them?
No but I am very tempted to go back and see if the beetle lamp is still there. I ended up buying the vase that I used in a table recently, a couple of beach towels and a few other little things. Have no idea where I could use a lamp like that but it is just so cute!
I was very impressed with the lamp selection at my local HGs. I found a perfect Martha Stewart rechargeable lamp for my lanai. There’s so many of them now, I have several scattered around my home.
It’s been forever since I have been inside of a Home Goods store. Maybe I need to make a trip! Those lamps and shades are adorable. I especially like the cat and bunny lamps. 🙂
Thanks for the many lamp pictures! Guess where I’m going this weekend to shop?
Our Home Goods had lots too. I got a small one with a yellow base and a shade with flowers on the inside that only show when the light is on.
