Welcome to the 904th Metamorphosis Monday! I’ve been playing Musical Lamps again, while the cats seem to be playing a game of Musical Cats. (Remember the old childhood game, Musical Chairs, that was often played at parties?) A while back, I moved this brass candlestick lamp from this chest in my upstairs hall to a different spot where it was much needed.

It was moved to this chest located in the upstairs living room to replace this lamp that is now residing in the downstairs living room, not the paneled one, but the other one that may end up becoming my home office one day. That’s another story for another day.

The reason the taller candlestick lamp was needed here was due to me moving the Home Alone Lego House and its protective case to this spot. The house had previously been perched on a chair in this room—a disaster waiting to happen. The orange lamp was a bit too short to remain here once the Home Alone House/Case was here.

It’s a good thing that I made the lamp change and moved the Home Alone house to the chest. Not long after doing that, I walked into the upstairs living room to find this. If the house had still been perched on a chair in this room, I’m not sure it would have stayed there with two kitties perched on top. Or, maybe it was seeing the house on top of the chest that made them want to get on top.

The brass lamp was replaced with this cute Lilly Pulitzer lamp, shared recently in THIS post.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, it’s been a gazillion years (at least 40) since I’ve lived with kittens. Kittens are very different from cats, and Beatrice and Agatha are currently in their teenage, drive-Mom-crazy years! I literally never know what I’ll find from day to day! This was the scene in my bedroom a couple of days ago.

Fortunately, Beatrice appears to have made the leap from one of the two nearby chairs without scratching the side of the secretary. I really don’t mind her jumping up there, as long as she doesn’t damage the secretary in the process.

Yesterday, I walked into my bedroom to this.

Beatrice has taken it upon herself to locate and try out every single high spot in the entire house. Ha! Again, she managed to jump here from a nearby chair without scratching the side of the highboy. However, I did find her lightly nibbling on the finial last night, so it now has a thick sock covering it.

And this was the scene I found in the dining room a few days ago. Do you think Agatha and Beatrice are plotting together? As soon as I walked into the room, I could see in Agatha’s eyes that she was waiting to see if this was okay. I told her to get down, and she did. There are too many breakables on the sideboard for kitties to lounge there. This reminds me of the behavior I saw when I brought out the Christmas tree this past Christmas.

They have to try out everything that’s new and different.

I’ll soon be heading back to the Dollhouse, where all the furniture, the little that’s there, is much shorter. They do at least have a tall cat tower to enjoy there. Based on my previous experience with having had cats my whole life, I’m really hoping all this mountain climbing/exploration will soon pass. These are my plans for the remainder of the day…

…while listening to Vol 6 of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. Such a good series! Love listening while working a puzzle—two favorites enjoyed at once! I just discovered in Vol. 6 that Emma and I share the same birthday. It makes me wonder how the author chose that date, def made me perk up my ears. lol (This book series is available here: The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion.)

There are 14 kitties in this puzzle. Can you find them all? 🙂 (Puzzle is available here: A Puzzle for Cat Lovers.)

Metamorphosis Monday: Metamorphosis Monday is a party that’s all about Before and Afters. Please link up your Before and After projects, like DIY projects, room makeovers, craft projects, and even recipes. Please do not link up Table Settings; save those for our Tablescape Thursday party on Thursday. If you are participating in Met Monday, link your post to the party using the “permalink” to your MM post and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on the name of your post, then copy and paste the address (that shows in the address bar at the top of your blog) into the “URL” box for InLinkz when prompted.

Puts a smile on my face to see their adventures. And is that a Nancy Drew collection? Read them all so many years ago!
Yup, they are one of the few things I have left from my childhood, so I’ve kept them over the years. I was obsessed with reading them back in the day, always spent my tiny allowance on one whenever I had enough saved up. I wonder if kids today still read them. I kinda doubt it.
I, also, was obsessed with reading Nancy Drew. And, I also, always spent my tiny allowance on one whenever I had enough saved up! I ended up with the whole series. My two granddaughters wouldn’t dream of reading them. 🙁
I simply love your kittens, their adorable names, and their adventures!!
Your kitties are just so adorable. It’s been fun reading all about their shenanigans. SO after 4 straight days it FINALLY stopped raining and this next week the forecast looks great for pretty low 70s sunny days. Finally.
Happy Memorial Day, Susan.
Sounds like we’re having similar weather. It’s been raining a lot here, pretty much every day, and the forecast looks the same for next week. After going through a pretty big drought, I hope we don’t have any trees falling over with all this rain.
Thanks, Michele! I hope you’ve had a great weekend!
Happy Memorial Day, Susan. I love reading your kitten stories. Beatrice looks adorable on top of the secretary. Cats are truly endless entertainment. My two cats, William & Harry, are now ten – technically “seniors”, although they are still quite lively.
They are! I wouldn’t mind her getting up there, as long as she doesn’t scratch the side of the furniture or chew on a finial. lol That’s great that William and Harry are still doing so well! I hope these two are like that in the years to come.
A and B are unbelievable…and certainly athletic! I loved seeing all of their antics, so cute but I’m glad nothing got damaged. They certainly keep your life interesting! And like you, I love lamps and am always switching them around from room to room.
lol They are def athletic. The wrestling matches they get into are hilarious! I thought they would have outgrown those by now, but they still love to wrestle with each other. So far, the only damage is a few tiny holes in my leather wingback chair in the downstairs living room. Once they aren’t as crazy as they are now, I’ll probably see if those can be repaired. They aren’t too bad, not very noticeable.
I know exactly what you mean. Lamps are like beautiful jewelry in a room. They makes such a difference in the look and feel of a room.
I am also a Nancy Drew reader/person. Have all of the original 56 and the Digests. For years, here in the Phoenix area, we had a book club to read them.
There is also a national organization called Nancy Drew Sleuths, which I was a member of, and went to conventions for years!
That is awesome! I had 23 books from my childhood and when I pulled those out, I hopped on eBay to see if I could find the missing numbers to fill in, purchasing only those that were designed like my current ones. They changed to covers a bit over the years. I would love to have all of them. They have a special place in my heart because of the situation I grew up in. They were such a bright spot in my childhood.
I had no idea they has a national organization! I wonder if that still exists. What did they do at the conventions? So interesting!
Cats are so comical. It’s funny that she would chew on the wooden finial! I hope she doesn’t try that on the crystal finial on your buffet!
I know! I think anything sticking up grabs their attention. She chipped a tiny bit of the stain off, so I’ll need to use my touch up stain pens to fix it. So naughty! I’ve been wondering if I should make my bedroom off limits before the furniture ends up getting scratched. I hate to do that, I’ve never had to do that with any cats that I’ve had before, but these guys are so energetic and playful! Hopefully, they’ll calm down a bit while we are in Ohio for a bit. lol
Laughing about high places. My Charleigh thought she could fly. I have a galley kitchen. Somehow she got on top the kitchen cabinet on one side and would end up on top the cabinets on the other side. They would get on top the armoire in the bedroom. Now I see her wiggle her rear end gauging the distance to leap on the garden tub. Never a dull moment. They are ten now and suddenly can’t get along.
You need Tuesday Photo Bombs for our emotional support animals. As one of my friends said “No matter what kind of day you had at work, it’s always a party when you arrive home. They love you regardless.”
The kitties are so adorable! Glad you post them because they make me happy. I have 2 cats almost 19 yrs old and they’re still curious and jump high on furniture. I tell them it’s ok because I’m thankful you can and mama loves you
Those kitties…just might have some “Bengal” in their DNA…just sayin… ❤️
franki
lol I should have a DNA test done to see.
My granddaughter lives with me along with her orange cat. He’s three but still jumps on everything. One night I walk into the kitchen and he’s perched on top of the refrigerator and it startled me! ha While I shower he sits on top of my tall chest of drawers and waits until I’m finished and goes with me to another room! He’s entertainment for sure! Your kitties are very pretty and lots of fun I’m sure.
I had to count three times to find all the kitties. Sure hope A&B do not damage something that can’t be replaced. It was fun to see all the high places they are trying out for perches!
Susan, the kitties are adorable. Our calico cat Georgie Girl (aka Curious Georgie) will be three next month. She is a jumper too and loves to get on top of the dining room cabinet. Not as often as before, but she still does it. There’s still hope lol. Happy Memorial Day!
Hi! My Maine Coon jumped from the bathroom vanity to the top of the lamp box (which is on top of the medicine cabinet, not recesses). Well, the cat and the lampbox came tumbling down. The electrical connections ripped out. I was in the bathroom at the time, but luckily I wasn’t injured. He hasn’t tried it since, however, he launched from a ladder next to a closet to sit on the upper moulding, yes, the 1/2 inch wide moulding. He came crashing down. He also likes to gnaw on wood, which I discourage him loudly from doing. Needless to say, my cats are never allowed on cabinets etc. He jumps from his “tree” to a lower table with an antique lamp on it. Hasn’t crashed it yet so considering moving the tree to another window. He is 7 and still needs instruction. Love the brass lamp-is it Baldwin-my brass pole lamp may be its brother. Also, I think I have your dining room chandelier (Atlanta).
Oh my gosh! I wonder if these cats are going to be up to shenanigans for years to come! lol My last kitty, Max, was a large kitty, but he never tried to jump on really high things like these cats do. They are obsessed with getting as high as possible. That is hilarious that he thought he could perch on 1/2 inch trim, although cats amaze me how little surface they need! Ha!
Yes, that one is a Baldwin. I have two Baldwin candlestick lamps and several other that are not Baldwin, but are by a company called Speer Collectibles, that’s sadly no longer in business since the owners retired. The Baldwin candlestick lamps that I have are far superior to the others, they are incredibly heavy. I was surprised when I purchased them, how heavy they were!
Catherine, did you ever attend the huge Home Show (forgot its official name) that used to always be held (I think) at the World Congress Center in Atlanta? There was a gentleman who always attended the show. He created chandeliers by hand and he designed the one in my dining room from photos of two different chandeliers that one of his customers had brought to him. He said that she liked elements of each chandelier and she wanted him to design a chandelier that included the parts that she liked from each of the two chandeliers. If I ever met that woman, I would give her the biggest hug and thank her for what she did! I’ve never seen a chandelier I liked as well as the one the two of them designed.
I had to save for it—couldn’t afford it the first few years that I saw it at the show. I was always afraid he would retire before I could have him build one for me since he was an older gentleman. On the 3rd year that I saw him at the Home Show, I ordered it. It seemed like a fortune at the time! I remember it cost a little over $1,000, and that was probably 30 years ago now. When it was ready, he installed it for me. I’m sure he is long gone now, but I wish I could thank him for all the joy it has brought me over the years. If I ever move, it will go with me and I hope my son/DIL will want it after I’m gone.
Do you remember where you purchased yours? I wonder if it was built by this man. I’m sure he probably designed/built many for local Atlanta stores and customers he met at the Home Show.
Catherine, you can see the dining room chandelier a bit better in this older post:

It’s not just their antics, but the expressions on their faces too! So many possible interpretations.
I love the antics these little kitties pull. You have to admit, they are quite entertaining and bring much love.
They are just so dang CUTE! With a new favorite spot every single day!
