Welcome to the 872nd Metamorphosis Monday! The day you adopt a pet is the day you set yourself up for one of the future worst times of your life. After losing Max over 12 years ago, the pain was so excruciating and lasted so long (really, it never ends), I couldn’t bring myself to adopt another cat. As time passed, the pain became more tolerable, but never left.

During the time that Max was being treated for cancer, as he began to go downhill and it was obvious that the treatment was not working, I made a promise to myself that if I managed to survive losing him without losing my mind, I would never adopt again. I never wanted to go through that kind of heartache ever again. I know that everyone deals with the loss of a pet in different ways, but it has always been extremely difficult for me when a pet passes. As I’ve gotten older, it has only gotten worse.
Over the years, my son has often encouraged me to adopt another cat because he knows how much I love them. He is a huge cat lover and would probably have a dozen if he could figure out a way to talk my daughter-in-law into it. LOL Whenever the topic comes up, he always says how wonderful it would be if I adopted a kitten so that my grandsons could experience being around a kitten. Their two cats were grown by the time the boys were old enough to play with them.
I’ve been thinking about it more and more lately, especially since the Dollhouse is so close to their home. That means if I do start to travel once or twice a year, they could look after any cat(s) I might adopt while I’m away. I can’t really explain why I decided to put my heart out there to be broken again; I think it was the thought of my grandsons experiencing the joy of watching kittens grow up.
A week or so ago, I drove over to a satellite mall location for the Dayton Humane Society. It was late in the evening, and I promised myself that I would not make any decisions that night—I would just check out the kitties they had available. They had three kittens available, all from the same litter. I didn’t really want to adopt three, and it didn’t feel right to leave one behind. The next day was going to be Saturday, which is always their busiest day. The ladies working at that particular location warned me that they would probably all be adopted the following day. That actually made me feel better, and I left knowing that they would most likely all go to good homes that weekend.
The next morning, I took another look at the Dayton Humane Society website. I saw an adorable kitten that was being housed at a PetSmart in a city 30 minutes away. I called to verify that he was still there, then drove over to see him that same day. I love long-haired kitties, and though he was listed as a short-haired domestic, his sweet face reeled me in. After holding him and expressing interest in adopting him, along with the little girl kitten in the cage next to him, the PetSmart employee said that she couldn’t let me have them. She said that they keep them there so that people can visit and see them, but that the adoption process has to go through the Humane Society, and they would not be open until Monday.
The way it works is that an application has to be completed online, where you list the name of the cat you’re interested in. Then you wait to see if you will be chosen. If it’s a weekday and they can tell that no one else has asked for that particular cat, I think you’re allowed to take them home that same day. If it’s a weekend, you fill out the application online, then you wait to see if you’ll be allowed to adopt the cat you’ve requested when they are back in the office on Monday.
On Monday, I received a call from someone with the Humane Society saying that the cat I wanted had already been requested by someone else. At that point, I kinda gave up on the idea of adopting and thought maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. Maybe this was the universe telling me that it wasn’t the right time to open my heart to adopting another cat. Upon awakening the next morning, something drove me to check another adoption agency named SICSA that I had visited online before.
Many of these pet adoption agencies post all of their available pets online, and they do a pretty good job at keeping them up to date. I was surprised to see an adorable long-haired kitten available, along with another kitten that appeared to be its sibling. Their pictures were so cute that I knew they would not be available for very long. I immediately hopped into my car and drove to the adoption facility, which also happens to have a veterinary hospital attached.
I was told that I could not see them because they were scheduled to be spayed that day. I asked if I could put down a deposit for them so that I wouldn’t miss out on adopting them. If it didn’t work out and they were already spoken for, they could just keep the deposit as a donation. The answer was, No, you cannot do that until you actually see them in person. An appointment was scheduled for me to see them at 12:00 p.m. the following day. Having already been disappointed once, I wondered if I was about to have the rug pulled out from under me again.
That evening, I received a phone call that the vet had never gotten around to spaying them that day and that the appointment to see them would have to be moved to the following day. The next day, I waited to see if I would get another call saying that the visit with them would be delayed again, but thankfully, that call never came. The following day, I drove to the facility, arriving 45 minutes before they opened, just in case someone else had also seen their adorable photos online. Since my appointment was scheduled for 12:00, I hoped I would be first in line. After my experience with the Dayton Humane Society, I was not taking any chances.
There was no one in the parking lot at 11:15 a.m. when I arrived, so I left to get something to eat nearby since I had not had breakfast. I arrived back about 20 minutes before opening time, and the parking area directly in front of the front door was still empty. Another car arrived shortly after, but I think they were there for a vet appointment because they had a kitty with them in a carrier.
Once the doors opened, I completed the adoption application, listing the names of the two kittens that I was interested in adopting. Next, I entered the Kitty Room and was told someone would be with me shortly. While I waited, I was able to see the kittens in one of the cages and immediately fell in love with them. They were chasing each other from cage to cage and had the cutest little personalities. A few minutes later, my son arrived to see the babies with me. We were shown back to a room, and the kittens were brought in. You would never know that they had just been spayed the day before! They were so playful, and we both instantly fell in love with them. I was able to bring them home that day, and it’s been non-stop action here in the Dollhouse ever since.
They are the most relaxed, easy-going kittens/cats I have ever met. The second you pick one of them up, they burst into purrs. I think they would let you hold them for hours if you wished. They love attention and are just the sweetest babies! My grandsons have been visiting every day after school. It would take another entire post to share their reaction. They cannot get over how tiny and cute they are. They are completely and totally smitten, bringing all their friends over each day to see the babies.
Today, I thought I’d share some of the goodies I’ve purchased for them over the past few days, along with a few photos of the babies enjoying them. Yes, I’ve gone a wee bit overboard shopping for them, but they appreciate everything I give them so much, it’s hard to resist! I found the most adorable kitty bowls online. Are these not the cutest things ever?!

Here’s how they look in action. I like how they’re raised, which is supposed to be better for cats when they are eating. (Bowls are available here: Raised Cat Ear Bowls.)

I’ve also ordered this bowl, thinking it would be great for their water. It was supposed to arrive yesterday, but was delayed until today. (Bowl is available here: Adorable Raised Kitty Bowl.) Update: This bowl did arrive, and it’s as cute in person as it is in the photos!

I ordered a set of these, although I’m not sure how I will use them. They are not raised but are nice and wide. That is supposed to prevent “whisker fatigue.” A cat’s whiskers are super sensitive, so I’ve read that it’s best not to feed them from small, deep bowls where their whiskers are constantly bumping into the sides of the bowl. (Wide, shallow bowls are available here: Set of 2 Shallow Cat Food Bowls, Prevents Whisker Fatigue.)

These lids absolutely slay me! So many cute things available since I last had a kitty! (Lids are available here: Adorable Lids for 3oz Cans.)

I looked for a bed that would be large enough for both of them and that they would hopefully not outgrow. They took to it immediately!

They look so comfy, I wish they made these in human size. Ha!

This luxurious kitty bed is available here: Luxurious Cat Bed with Washable Cushion.

This is the kitty litter I’m using. It’s made with corn, has great reviews, and a lot of vets recommend it. You’ll find it available here: World’s Best Cat Litter.

My daughter-in-law gave me this litter box that they are no longer using, and I purchased a Litter Genie to go with it. For now, the kittens are spending the day with me here in the office. Well, that is until school lets out, at which time my grandsons usually kidnap them and take them down to the movie room where they nap in their arms while the boys watch TV. (Litter Genie is available here: Litter Genie Waste Disposal System.)

I went ahead and purchased them a big girl litter box for when they are old enough to go to the basement for potty time. I like that this one can be used with the flap up in case they don’t like having a flap to pass through. It’s currently in the basement bathroom. (Extra-large little box is available here: Extra Large Stainless Steel Litter Box, Great for Multi-Cat Families.)

The Litter Genie came with a scoop, but I purchased a large metal one like I used to use back in the day. I like the sturdiness of the metal ones. (Scoop is available here: Large Metal Litter Scoop.)

I very much recommend this comb for brushing cats or dogs. It’s so easy to remove the hair from the brush, just a press of the button! (Brush is available here: Self-Cleaning Pet Brush in 3 Colors.)

I couldn’t resist this fluffy, white clouds/blue skies cat condo. They love it! You’ll find these cute cat caves available here: Blue Sky, White Clouds Cat Bed and Hideaway.

I purchased a lot of scratching options, including these boxes that came with 5 refillable cardboard scratching inserts. So far, they’ve played in the box but haven’t used it for scratching. I’m sure that will happen eventually, though. Cardboard Scratching Box is available here: Cardboard Box with 5 Scratching Pads.)

Their two favorite scratching posts so far have been this adorable flower scratching post and a Palm Tree scratching post. They love sleeping on its base and climbing it, sometimes attacking the flower that hangs from it.

I just realized I haven’t shared what I named the kitties. I had a list of about 10 names, and the two names that my daughter-in-law and I liked the best were Agnes and Beatrice. Beatrice is the one lying down, and that’s Agnes playing tug-of-war with the flower. Update: I’ve been thinking of changing Agnes’s name to Agatha. They don’t know their names just yet, so there’s still time to do that. We often called them Bea and Aggie, so their nicknames would still work even with the name change.

Again, that’s Beatrice on the left and Agnes on the right. (Flower scratching post is available here: Flower Scratching Post.)

This adorable palm tree scratching post that I purchased for them comes in four different styles. I went with the two palm tree style, which was Style C. They love it and love climbing all the way to the top. They especially love it when I drag a cat dancer/wand across the top, rustling the leaves of the trees. Palm Tree Scratching Post is available here: Palm Tree Cat Scratching Post, 4 Styles.)

I purchased this post for when they are older and have grown larger. So far, they haven’t shown any interest in it. (Scratching post is available here: 34″ Tall Sisal Scratching Post Trees.)

I also purchased these stairs so when they’re large enough to sleep on the bed, they’ll easily be able to hop up whenever they wish. Right now, they are so tiny, I’m afraid I’ll move a cover back during the night and toss them right off the bed, but it won’t be long before they will be big enough to sleep on the bed at night. (Steps are available here: Pet Stairs with Cat Scratching Post Legs.)

I could not resist buying them a cat tree. I figured they would not have any interest in climbing it until they were much larger. I was wrong! lol Here’s Agnes checking it out when I was still assembling it.

I love the little white eyeliner that they have going all the way around their eyes. I wonder what color their eyes will be when they are older.

So far, they have only ventured up to the second level. They love playing and sleeping inside. (Cat Tree/Tower is available here: 74″ Cat Tower with 2 Hammocks, 2 Padded Condos, and 5 Sisal Scratching Posts.)

A few more photos of them playing and sleeping inside their cat tree/condo…

That’s Beatrice on the left and Agnes, lying down. The easiest way to tell them apart is that Beatrice has all white socks on in front, while Agnes has a little gray on her front legs. Beatrice’s fur is also slightly darker than Agnes’s.

These are their favorite Cat Dancers/Wands. They love, love, love these: Ribbon and Feather Wand AND Bird Pink Teaser Toy Attachment. I saw this Giraffe on Instagram and ordered it a few days ago. It should be arriving today. It reminds me of my trip to Giraffe Manor, and was way too cute to pass up! You’ll find this adorable Giraffe Scratching Post/Cat Condo available here: Giraffe Condo.

I purchased this cord/cable protector to go over the cables and cords here in my office. Both Beatrice and Agnes are obsessed with playing and gnawing on cords! I’ll be glad when we get past that stage! You’ll find this cover available in several sizes/widths here: Cord/Cable Protector.

I’m not sure who likes these cute woolen, yarn-covered balls more, the cats or me! I love the design. You’ll find them available here: 6 Woolen Yarn Cat Ball Toys.

I couldn’t resist buying one of these hoodies with a built-in kangaroo pouch. Right now, Beatrice and Agnes are both small enough to fit in the pocket together. I’ve only tried it once with Beatrice, and she loved it! The reviews said that it runs very small, so it’s recommended that you size up a lot, like two sizes up. I went with an X-Large and it’s nice and roomy! It’s available here: X-Large Cat Style Hoodie with Kangaroo Pocket for Cats.

I haven’t ordered these yet, but I’m thinking about it. Love these personalized scoops for cat food, and they come in a lot of different colors, with different styles and color choices for the font. You’ll find these available here: Custom Measuring Cat Scoop.

If you have or love cats, I hope you enjoyed this post! I promise I won’t spam you to death with cat pics in the future, but you may see Beatrice and Agnes in the background occasionally as I take photos of renovations and updates around the house. One update I hope to make soon is adding a kitty door to one of the storage rooms in the basement. That’s where their litter box will be once they are big enough that I can let them roam around without supervision. They love exploring new rooms!

Congratulations on the arrival of Beatrice & Agnes…(love their names). We too….lost our beloved wire dachshund, Liesel in May…from cancer. Treatment was not an option….it progressed so quickly. She was just two months shy of her eleventh birthday. The grief we have felt is unsurmountable….and we are no stranger to grief….having lost a daughter in 2016, also to cancer….along with other family members & friends. We made the tough decision not to adopt another dog….but it is hard. For the first time in 24 years – we have no little paws puttering up the hall. Enjoy your new family members….they will give you years of love & antics!!
I am so sorry, Charlotte—I can’t imagine the pain of losing a child. 🙁 I wish so badly no one ever had to go through something like that. I have to believe we will see both our family and our furbabies again one day. Love like that can never die, it has to live on.
I never thought I’d adopt again. I hope they outlive me because my son has already said that he would take them if that happens. I feel like my grandsons would do that, too—as much as they love them.
YOU, my dear, are officially…”SMITTEN!!” ❤️ ❤️
Definitely!
Susan, this is the best post ever. Your kitties are adorable! A few years ago I lost my 13 yo Shih Tzu, Charlie. Devastated doesn’t begin to describe how I felt. My nephew asked if I was planning on getting another dog. I told him no because it hurts too much when they are gone. He said, “Aunt Peggy, you need to get another dog because you would be the best thing that ever happened to it.” Well, 2 months later I got my Louie, another adorable shih tzu. He was 8 weeks old and is now almost 5. He is a true blessing. You and your family are the best thing to ever happen to those precious kittens. Enjoy.
Peggy, I completely understand. That’s how I felt when Max passed. It takes a long time for our hearts to heal after the loss of a furbaby. I’m so glad you have Louie, they do bring us so much happiness!
Ow you will have to change the name from “The Dollhouse” to the kitty house.
So sweet. Congratulations
That would be cute! I think that’s how my grandsons see the house now. 🙂
Susan, So happy for you! I know your kittens will have excellent care and love. My husband’s cat Olivia lived to be 18 so I hope you have many, many years of happiness with Beatrice and Agnes!
Aww, love that she had her for so long. Olivia is my middle name. 🙂 I had three cats, a mom and her two sons that lived to be 16, 17, and 18. Thanks, Margot!
XXX
OMG they are so cute!! And great names for the little princesses. Now some of us would like to know how many boxes did you have delivered for these little cuties :). I’m sure not enough. You and your family are going to have so much fun with these girls.
A lot! lol I took them all to the recycling center yesterday, and my car was filled to the top. I need to stop buying stuff for them, but it’s so hard when I keep finding such adorable toys. Thanks, Barbara!
I’m in love with them! So happy for you (and them!)
Thanks, Jane! They are sweeties!
XXX
Ohhhhh, so many congratulations to the 3 of you! I am thrilled for you and the fun you will have. Nothing makes a home feel more like a home than fur and paws!
So true! I’ve missed that.
I’m so happy for you! I remember when Max died and how heartbroken you were. Enjoy those furballs of fun!
Thanks so much, Jane! I hope we get to see our furbabies again one day; it would be the happiest reunion ever!
Susan!!
You’d told me how hard Max’s passing on was for you. Adopting two is brilliant on your part! Plus like you said, the kids can babysit when you travel. I am SO HAPPY for you. I’m destroyed when my animals die too, but that has never stopped me from adopting again. And you’re right: it does get harder as we get older. For me, the fun and comfort and joy for many years with the fur-kids makes it so wortth it. I am so thrilled for you.
Wendy
Thanks, Wendy! I admire you for being so brave to adopt again. That is wonderful since there are so many cats and dogs out there who need homes.
Susan they are beautiful!!!!! So happy you got both of them together. Hours of entertainment. I had to make decisions 1 year apart with my kitties, 19 and 14 years. My heart is not healed yet its sooo hard. Husband says I can get another anytime, I’m just not ready. Looking forward to pictures and their antics.
Oh, that is so hard, Kathie! I’m sorry you had to go through that, especially so close together. I went through something similar when I had three kitties many years ago. They lived to be 16, 17 and 18 years old. I knew it was going to be a few rough years, and it was. Don’t rush it, you will know when the time is right.
Hi Susan!
Thank you for this utterly delightful post! Everyone in my home is severely allergic to cats so I get to enjoy Agnes and Beatrice vicariously. It took me 13 years after losing our beloved Yellow Lab, JB, to bring in a new family member. Our spirit animal, Chocolate Lab Apollo, has brought soooo much joy into our lives since 2013. We are once again preparing…if such a thing is possible…for him to depart this good, green earth. I was having a really tough day, but reading about Agnes and Beatrice has lifted my heart. Wishing you and your new babies many, many fun-filled days. Also, your grandsons sound like tremendously caring lads!
All my best from Roz in Michigan
Roz, it’s so hard when they start nearing their senior years. I hope Apollo has many great years left to enjoy! Thanks, they have big hearts and love all animals.
Thank you kindly, Susan!
Congratulations, Susan!
They look like they might be Maine Coon Cats. Having worked in rescue for over 20 years, adopting is the most wonderful thing a person can do.
There is a saying: The pet you got today was sent from the pet you once loved.
Your grandsons are really going to love those kittens!
Wow! That’s wonderful news! Aggie & Bea are adorable! My mind went in another direction when I read the title of your post!
so did mine!
Thanks so much, Cyndy! That’s what we’ve been calling them, too. 🙂
Congratulations Susan – that’s wonderful that you got some new kitties! It’s so worth it – even when the love becomes a memory. I’m so happy for you, and they look like they’ll be so happy being with you! Thanks for sharing the joy, and as always, for hosting. Happy Monday!
so happy for you and for the kittens
Hello. I am so happy you have adopted Beatrice and Agnes they are beautiful and will bring you so much joy. We lost our kitty Bella last week, she would have been 18 in December. She was very sick. We miss her terribly, our house seems empty. God Bless you and your beautiful new babies.
Congratulations!!! They are absolutely adorable. I have had a cat(s) since I was 5 years old. I just love a cat’s personality and these two look like they have plenty of that! I noticed on my computer I am now up to 3,000 pics of all my cats. I just can’t stop myself from taking kitty pics. Spoil them and then spoil them some more. They are so precious and give so much back.
Congratulations! They are just precious. My husband and I just lost our precious dog, Kasey in July. First time without a dog in our home in about 43 years. It’s pretty lonely. We both said we want another dog but just haven’t found the right one yet. If it’s meant to be, it will happen. I hope you and your grandchildren enjoy lots of fun, laughter and joy with your new fur babies!!❤️❤️
Congratulations Susan on your new fur babies! I agree with all the wonderful
words given here and will just add that they are very fortunate to have “found”
you. It is very clear that they will be very well cared for and highly appreciated.
I lost my two sweet cats recently within 6 months of each other and there is now a big hole left in my life.
Congratulations! What a wonderful post. I have had a cat or two in the past but am primarily a dog person. That being said, there is no animal on the planet cuter than a kitten! Yours are just adorable.
Congratulations! They are absolutely adorable and what a gift you have given your grandsons. Enjoy every snuggle and cuddle. XO- MaryJo
OMG! They are so precious! Nothing cuter than a kitten. We are a cat family and currently have two boys and are feeding 2 outside kitties right now. I know what you mean when you lose a pet. It is sooo hard! But, I look back and realize that I love all my babies past and present. Most recently, we lost our Dolly on New Years Eve. She was 18 and had lived a wonderful life. We miss her so, but I am thankful we still have our boys (brothers) who are 12. Dolly also had two brothers that came with her 2 days after Christmas of 2006. The same year we lost our beloved Sunny. Sadly, our Hank was hit by a car at age 7. We were so devastated! But to heal our hearts, we adopted our little Barn Baby boys (our 12 year olds) and it was love at first sight. Cletus, Dolly’s other brother lived to 14. He developed Diabetes and died from complications of that. Once again, breaking our hearts. We have loved all of our kitties and have never regretted adopting any of them. Enjoy your kitty girls. So happy for you and your grandsons who get to experience the joys of playing kittens. 🙂
What adorable little fur babies. You will have years of joy with them. We lost our last little sweetheart one and a half years ago. This was the last time I could go through that after years of all the dog kiddos leaving us. I think as becoming older I am unable to cope with the terrible stress. It is lovely for your grandkids too, and nice your family can be backup. Looking forward to kitty photos in the future posts.
Susan!!! Soooo cute and adorable…. A and B are the luckiest cats ever. 🙂 I so relate to your story…we have only had 3 cats our entire marriage, but with each of their passings, I was absolutely devastated. Our Nora was the last to pass away and I thought I was never going to move forward with another furbabe….. While not ready to adopt, even after 7 years, we have gotten our toes wet again by dog sitting for a friend. I so admire you for opening your heart again. I know how hard that was!
Yayyyy you got two kitties! They are beautiful girls, and already have the best toys. They are lucky to have you. You are going to have so much fun with them, which I know you know. Adorable names! I have two boy Siamese cats. They keep me hopping.
Awww, congrats on your new babies. It is hard as a pet owner to know that somewhere down the road heartache will happen, but the time you get to spend with those special babies I think is well worth it. There are so many unwanted animals out there and giving them a forever home means you are a special person too (in a good way)! Enjoy all that kitty love!
I’m going to have to refer to you as the Cat Lady now instead of the Georgia Lady! lol I always wondered why you didn’t have another cat. My heart has been broken several times. Our pets were not made to last our life times which is so sad. I love all the toys and beds and games you have set up for Bea and Aggie. They sure won the lottery! I will say you certainly went above and beyond to find the perfect pair. I don’t understand some of the “restrictions” that are set up because it makes one just give up. One place I was looking into wanted a home inspection! My last kitties have all been strays that have just shown up and decided to stay. Of course I have them neutered. I also use pellets for the cat boxes for the last several years. Indoors and outdoors. I buy a 40 lb. bag at TSC. Would never go back to clay/sand. And, I recently discovered when I have a bad kitty that sprays Mrs. Meyers cleaner takes away the smell. Have no idea why, but it works! It’s wonderful that the boys come over to play and visit. I love kittens and you’ve sure got a cute pair. They make you happy just watching them either sleeping or playing.
I am so glad you choose to have these precious babies! I lost my Chihuahua two years ago, I was devastated, and swore I will never have another pet! Three months passed and I missed have little feet following me everywhere. I kept looking and declaring, I am just looking, then I went to a web site, a family had two and they had to adopt them out. The owner had to return to work. We got in touch and they brought them to us, we fell in love, and we are so happy we adopted, they make our days complete! We believe this was divine intervention!
Susan, OMG! These kittens are adorable and will bring you endless hours of love, snuggles, and entertainment for you and your family. And how sweet that you adopted them both so they can play together. We lost our sweet little Foxie last year – she was a rescue and had the gentlest soul. If she could have talked, I know she would have wanted us to adopt more kitties, like we did her. And so we did and even though I still think about her almost every day, I’m so glad we have two new furbabies to love and can provide a home for.
Oh Susan!! I am in high love! We have been cat-less for over 2 years & I miss them but hubby isn’t ready. And please do just kitty spam me till your heart is content. I have already given them little baby nicknames in my head (Little Bea & Aggie) because they are so so adorable. Thank you for rescuing & for risking your heart yet again! I have followed you for long before you had to say goodbye to dear Max & it’s inconceivable to me that it was 12 years ago!!! I’m very happy to continue alongside you on this new journey! ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so happy that you finally got Beatrice and Agnes! I had just about decided that you would never get another kitty! Good for you because you have will never regret having them. I have a Siamese that lives inside plus 3 outside cats that I became very attached to and was allowed to adopt them when my neighbors moved plus astray Bengal that has been in our neighborhood for a few years and he spends more and more time at my house and is tolerated by the 3 outside cats. I need to send pictures to you! I’m glad you are once again a Cat Lady like me!!
Beatrice and Agnes are just adorable!!! What fun and joy they will bring to you. I predict you’ll find it very hard to leave them to go back to Georgia now! My goodness, those kitties have the cream of the crop supplies and toys! What fun for your grandsons! Enjoy to the full.
OH, Susan! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I lost my rescue kitty Romeo years ago and I have not been able to even consider hurting my heart like losing him did yet again. I STILL grieve. Not even a week ago my nieces brought him up while visiting and I burst into tears. I absolutely adored that sweet boy. He just “got” me. We were the very best of friends. You see, I am not naturally an animal lover……I know, right? But I am not. But my daughter found out this very neglected sickly kitty was going to be put down and she wanted to just give him some love (she likes animals more than she likes people) before he “died.” And she feel in love with him. Hubs and I were dining at a restaurant and she called me and said I had to meet this cat. I told her no, we had no intention of owning a cat. She begged. I gave in and went to the Petsmart where he was residing till the next day. And, even nasty looking and sick he was the sweetest cat I’d ever know. SO, about $2k within a matter of days he came to live out his life with us. Well mainly me – he followed me everywhere I went. Oh I loved him. And I can’t believe you just got two kittens. They are SO cute. I am so happy for you – for your family – and most esp for those cuties, A and B. ♥♥
Just adorable!! Congratulations, they have a wonderful life already! As hard as it is, you really can’t imagine living that long without kitties again! Will they travel between the Doll House and Georgia with you?
I must confess that when I saw the title of your post I thought I might be reading about a new man in your life. Instead it’s two sweet kitties that are adorable! I still miss my gray tabbie Oliver who I had for 16 years ago. A really wonderful post!
Susan,
Beatrice and Agnes are adorable!! Congrats!!! How wonderful for you and for them!!
Thanks so much for hosting each week!!
Hugs,

Oh, Susan, I’m thrilled for you! Agnes and Beatrice are so beautiful. As a fellow cat lover, I know you’re going to have so many wonderful times with them, and your grandsons must be just ecstatic. What a wonderful story!
Your kittens are adorable! They are so lucky! Enjoy!!
Oh my, Agnes and Beatrice have hit the Cat Lady and My Million Dillar Dream Home lotteries both at once! They’re cuties, and in the best of hands.congrats on the emotional.move of opening your heart again. Your happy heart shines.
Those kitties are adorable! They don’t resemble Max which is good. They look like Maine Coon kitties. So cute. Can’t wait to hear more antics from these little sweethearts. Their names fit them well. Congratulations!
So happy you have new babies in your good care. I have an older cat, a Russian Blue, that was abandoned by a neighbor when she moved away. Another neighbor and I shared feeding the poor orphan. At that time we had a cat that was totally dedicated to my husband for many years. My husband passed due to kidney cancer, and a year later his baby developed kidney problems. The vet thought the suffering was severe enough to have the cat put down. It was so sad, such a hard decision that I prayed over. But I felt it was selfish to prolong his life when he had no quality of life.
But, I then fully adopted the cat the neighbor and I had shared. She is the smartest cat I have ever owned. She is getting older and I am doing everything possible to keep her well and comfortable. I believe she is psychic–I can think of her and she will appear to see me or sit in my lap–she is an angel that has been a huge blessing to my life. You have done a wonderful thing by giving your 2 girls a great home–bless you in your new adventure. Please keep the photos coming.
Susan, I’m thrilled at your news and overjoyed that you welcomed two new little loves into your family! We have two brothers, tan tiger boys, who love snuggling with us, and we love knowing they have each other when we are out of the house. I’ve also read that having a playmate keeps cats more engaged and active as they age, which makes sense, as they always have someone to play with, tease, and run around with. Love that they can keep you company when you’re in the Georgia house if they are good with car travel, too!
Beatrice and Agnes are adorable! I can see they are already very loved and I am so happy that you went through a rescue.
When my daughter was three years old, my friend gave her a long-haired calico that she named Sparkle. When my daughter left for college, Sparkle stayed with me. Sadly, Sparkle passed while my daughter was still away at school. I grieved so and vowed to never have another fur baby because my heart couldn’t take it!
Fast forward six years: a move to another house in another state. I told my husband “this looks like a cat house (LOL). He surprised me with a little rhinestone cat-collar and a certificate to choose any kitty I wanted. I chose a long-haired calico named her Jolie. She is beautiful with the sweetest disposition and now is 14 1/2 years old. Jolie’s vet said her kidney numbers aren’t great, so we are doing all we can to keep her well.
OMG…so cute! I know exactly how you feel losing Max. We lost our daschaund of 14yrs to cancer on operating table. It has been 30yrs ago and I can’t get another dog!! Crying typing this. We have had since cats only and loss cats and I feel like I will not survive the loss. I do believe I will see my fur babies again. Please show pictures often.
Agatha Christie and Beatrix Potter! My dear, I believe you have two Maine Coon mix kitties. I have two brothers from the same mother, not a MC, but both have similar fur patterns. The MC is the smartest cat ever, and I have had a lot of cats. You must get a more substantial brush and start getting them used to brushing and trimming, especially the fanny area, and nail clipping. I didn’t and regret it. Suggest the animal-like toys for them and the coil spring toys. The MC drags the animal toys around the house, meowing a storm. Grain free cat food recommended and I found Wellness the best, and I add Dynovite, which they love (we call it kitty crack!). Having two is best as they are company for each other when we were working, or now retired, our infrequent trips away. Best of luck on many happy and healthy years to come.
Please please spam us with kitty pictures! My babies are adults now, and I love seeing your silly girls play. Congratulations, and I totally understand your hesitation. But they have a way of opening us up again.
Your fur babies are sooooo adorable! You have already taken so many “purrfect” photos of them…and so many of the cutest dishes and toys to keep them busy and save your furniture too.
Thanks so much for sharing us with your new lovelies.
Oh, my gosh, Susan, they are beyond adorable! I love cats so much. When your Max died, we had 4 cats. A year later, we lost the 1st of them, Bandit. You and I commiserated by email over our lost babies. We now have only the youngest of our pride, Ellie, who is 17. I don’t know if I can ever get another, but I do know how lonesome the house will be without a precious cat. Enjoy your babies; they are very fortunate kittens to have you!
Congratulations on your new fur babies! Your post has inspired me to want to adopt a kitten. I have never owned a cat due to severe allergies. In the past, I would just walk into a home that owned a cat and (without even seeing it or touching it) I would immediately have a severe asthma attack!! Then about 3 years ago I visited someone who (unbeknowst to me) owned a cat. When she mentioned the fact a few hours later, I was suprised that I had no attack. The next time I visited I asked to see her cat. I played with it and petted it and no reaction! It took decades but I think I outgrew my allergy!! Your post is full of valuable info on what I need to get to for my new addition. I am bookmarking this post! Thanks for sharing.
