Porch Fever

Springtime = Porch Fever, and I have the cure.

Just one question…screened-in or open today?  You decide.  Oh, and could you pass me a lemon for my sweet tea?  Just feel those breezes!

This is one of my very favorite houses in Grant Park in Atlanta.  It has multiple porches…as in porches on ALL. FOUR. SIDES!  Love!  There are three porches just on the front of the home…enough to make this porch-crazy woman faint!

I had the opportunity to tour this house once and it’s gorgeous inside, too.  My favorite porch is on the right side, protected by that big, beautiful tree you see on the right side of the house.

Do you see it up high there?  The second-story porch on this side was my favorite of all the porches on this house.  It has cozy seating and it overlooks a beautiful side yard with a magnificent tree.  Felt just like being in a treehouse but with all the comforts of home.  (Take my Grant Park tour in THIS post.)

So many things to love about this porch: the white shutters blocking the late afternoon sun or perhaps a less-than-ideal view, the delightful spring-green cushions—especially those striped ones, and gorgeous columns.  Couldn’t you just spend the WHOLE day in this space?

The flooring on this porch looks like tile, but it’s actually wood.  You could give any porch this treatment by adding striped awnings, white and black wicker and painting the floor.  Imagine it done with blue and white awnings and a blue and white floor.  Or, how about green?

Just WOW!  Love the ceiling and the floors…so rich.

I’m so glad the person who built this porch didn’t say to their contractor, “No, just one fan…one fan will be enough.”

Beach Trip…I’m craving a beach trip!  I think I hear Jimmy singing “Boat Drinks” now.

This is where you’ll find me today despite the ongoing attack of the yellow stuff that’s EVERYWHERE.  Ahh-chooo!

Let’s call it “flower dust.”  Doesn’t that sound so much nicer than pollen?  Is it looking like this around your home, too?

Thinking about adding a porch to your home?  Check out this post for some helpful tips: 9 Great Features for Your Screened in Porch.

Pssst:  I’ve created a board at Pinterest with some of my fave porches…you’ll find it HERE.

Also, if you missed it, check out yesterday’s post about scents.  I loved all the suggestions and can’t wait to check out some of the ones you mentioned as your fave.  Thanks for all the great comments you left yesterday!

I adore a porch and all of these are absolutely beautiful!

  2. Cottage and Broome says

I think your porch was my favorite, beautiful and comfortable looking! Laura

  3. Love every one of these pictures, have been porch dreaming too! Can't take the pollen, but waiting patiently, or not so patiently for the pollen to be washed away, then I can get to work!

Perfectly dreamy porches. A sleeping porch is on my list of absolute musts, although they are not very common in New England. Take care of yourself with that "Flower dust" it does get quite annoying. Thank you for the inspiration. Dee

Hi Susan, I am just swooning for that victorian too. I really don't understand my love for old houses. I live in a 30 year old house and I do love it but when I see the old victorians around here and the even older stone homes my heart just skips a beat. Make it a wonderful weekend!

Love your porch!! We are covered in pollen, ready for it to go away.

    Susan,
I just love your porch and never tire of looking at it. It is like an outside family room. A place I would love to sit on for dinner. In the north we haven't had the pollen rush yet, thank goodness. I have enjoyed todays tour, but love yours best!
    Hugs,
    Donna

We love porches. Our kids say that all we need for a home, is a bedroom, kitchen, bath and PORCH. Here in Central Texas, we can enjoy porch sitting, pretty much year round.

You have a great porch for sitting.

We do have that yellow stuff here, from the Live Oaks. And, what I call 'saw dust', from the Cedar Elms.

And, we're on the second 'leaf season'….Elms lose theirs in the fall…Live Oaks in spring. We're never without the exercise of raking leaves. Then, we rest on the porch.

  9. Incredible porches. We have a small one where i put a small bistro table and 2 chairs, we should use it more than we do.

  10. Check out house.com for porches too. It's a great site and has all sorts of variations on decor. You can sign up and believe it has a place for putting things you like, similar to pin interest. If you like a certain piece they also have a products link, which is where I found a table recently.

  11. Awww I dream of a lovely porch someday 🙂

  12. Mmmmm! That white porch with those green and white striped cushions just made me sigh. Loved the black and white one too. I really need to get around to working on my deck. Thanks for the inspiration. Beautiful!

  13. The pollen is fairly thick on the ground here, as well, Susan. How lucky you are to be on your porch already! I'm longing to be on my little porch again. Soon….

  14. Blondie's Journal says

All of these porches are just fabulous! I'd just love to have one!

    XO,
    Jane

  15. Wow, such beautiful porches. I have a thing for porches too. I didn't realize how much I would miss our porch back home in Missouri. We don't really have one here, just a nice patio by the pool. I'm not complaining, it is nice, but the porch in MO that looked out over the beautiful park setting of our yard, was exquisite. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.

  16. Celia M. c. says

I can't wait until we have a screened in porch!!! I always love seeing your table settings on the porch xo HHL

  17. Definitely a screened-in porch! I love mine and I am so happy that it is almost bug-free. These porches are wonderful, Susan, but I agree that yours is the best!

  18. Such a pretty blog!

    I am a new follower!

These houses are so perfect. I love wrap-around porches the best!

That home is truly magnificent as only a true Southern Home can be…wow and then some….but, Susan, truth be told – coming "back" and closing with YOUR porch, honestly yours is better. It is more cozy, more inviting, more beautiful…and best of all: YOURS.

I love your porch, Susan, and get the same WOW FACTOR seeing it as I do any home you have ever featured, and that's the plain truth of it, ma'am.

Enjoy your sweet tea today, dear friend, AFTER taking a Claritin, of course.

Big hugs – happy spring to you and yours!!

  20. Princess Kate says

I love porches too and yours is still my favorite. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Thanks, Laura! Wish I could have one gigantic party and invite everyone over…wouldn't that be a blast?! 🙂

  22. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Thanks, Dee…you too. I guess we are ahead of you guys on the flower dust right now. It hit so hard here, maybe it will all get over with at once. Here's hoping…

  23. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Ahrisha, Victorians are wonderful, aren't they? The interiors are a bit dark for me sometimes but I love the exterior!

  24. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Thanks! Hang in there…won't be long and it will pass…just keep saying that. lol

  25. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

    Thanks, Donna!

  26. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Linda, I never knew that about Elms. Interesting! I love the Live Oaks…so pretty! We mostly have those in the coastal areas of Georgia, like Savannah.

  27. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

    Thanks, Maggie!

  28. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Jane, add one to your home…you'll never regret it!

  29. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Thanks, Celia. The lighting is so much better outside…prefer to put them there when I can. 🙂

  32. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

    Thanks, Kate! ♥

  33. I love the porches you have shared…of course yours is one of my very favorites…so cozy and inviting..could spend hours there. I have been contemplating adding on to my house..still haven't decided but if I do a back porch/sun room is on the top of my list. Thanks for the inspiration!
    Miss Bloomers

  34. they are all so beautiful. . . I could sit out there forever!

  35. Thanks for the Porch tour they are all lovely. I wish I could be sitting on my porch right now (or as we call them here in Australia verandah Porch sounds so posh) but I'm afraid my Porch is underwater at the moment 🙁 it seems to be becoming a regular occurance here in Queensland as of late 🙁 …but all is good. I love the Southern style of home (is that what you call it) so different to what we have here.
    Cheers

  36. Shirley@Housepitality Designs says

Oh my..that black and white porch is amazing..also the one with the beautiful wood floors and ceiling isn't bad either!…Open or closed? I like them both…Just wish I could enjoy mine as the pollen it crazy here!!

  37. laxsupermom says

Beautiful images! I love the wide open look of an open air porch, but it has to be screened in for me. I'm a bug buffet. Your porch has always been one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing.

  38. OKAY! Now I'm ready for a nap! franki

  39. Lizabeth @ Infuse With Liz says

I haven't seen the pollen just yet but my sinuses tell me otherwise! I love porches and would love to have one, two or three!! Up here we often don't have them I think in part because of practicality. Those gorgeous finishes would be trashed with our winters and shoveling! My favorite kind of porch has the tongue and groove wood ceilings and wood flooring, comfy wicker furniture and plenty of room to set the furniture on (kind of like the picture from Source)!

  40. Curtains in My Tree says

Those houses are in my dreams , I would love have a porch like any of those

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
