Welcome to the 831st Tablescape Thursday! A while back, even before buying the Dollhouse, I took you on a little tour of my favorite grocery store here, Dorothy Lane Market. DLM is how I would imagine grocery shopping was back in the day when my parents would have gone to the grocery store. The store is not so large as to feel like a big chain, (there are 4 locations at present) and the people who work there and help if you have questions feel like they could be your next-door neighbor. It’s just a completely different experience from shopping in most grocery stores. I love trying new things and on this trip, I decided to try one of their not-frozen, handmade chicken pot pies that I always see near the meat department. These have fast become a favorite and I pick up a couple almost every time I’m there. After tasting these, I don’t think I can ever bring myself to buy a frozen pot pie again.
One of the last times I was in DLM, they only had one chicken pot pie left, so I decided to try one of their beef pot pies. I have been reluctant to try those because in the past, I’ve always found the beef used in things like this to be less than desirable. I shouldn’t have worried, it was amazing! I’ll be buying both the beef and the chicken pot pies when I visit from now on. If you live anywhere close to Dayton, I very much recommend a visit to Dorothy Lane Market. Lately, my son and DIL have been biking there on the weekends to buy steak and kabobs and such to cook out. It’s about a 3-mile ride there and back, all uphill going, but all downhill coming back. If we lived just a little closer to our nearest DLM, I’d be tempted to buy one of those bikes you see with the two baskets on the back. Not sure I want to bike uphill for 1.5 miles, though. If you would like to see the previous post I shared about DLM, you’ll find it here: Dorothy Lane Market, My Favorite Grocery Store.
I’m still in summer mode around here, it’s been hot this week and I’m loving it! But I am starting to eye the fall and holiday goodies I’m seeing in the stores. You may remember this table that I set on the screened porch a few years back. As I recall, the pumpkins were a find at Pier 1 back in the day.
They are a favorite to pull out for dining as soon as the air takes on that crisp feeling of autumn. I love how individual soup tureens will keep soup nice and warm, especially if you prewarm them with hot water before filling them with soup.
It can be hard to find white pumpkin tureens, but Pottery Barn has them in stock right now. I’m guessing they won’t last long since these are so pretty in their design with the grooved sides and twisted stems. Love them!
They aren’t on sale but I think they are quite reasonably priced. I’d be surprised if they last long enough to go on sale. If you could use some adorable pumpkin tureens for serving soup this fall and winter, you’ll find these available here: Pumpkin Soup Tureens, Great for Autumn and Thanksgiving.
It’s fuzzy pumpkin time! I’ll be hopping in my car for the trek back to Georgia tomorrow, and one of the first things I’m going to do when I get home is pull out all my pumpkin pillows.
I bought these fuzzy pumpkins a few years back and I love that Pottery Barn keeps bringing them back each year. This has to be the 3rd or 4th year that they’ve had them in stock. I guess they’ve been a hit since they keep stocking them each year.
I have them in all three colors and sizes and love how their neutral colors make them so easy to use in just about any room.
I’m shocked to see that they are on sale already. That makes me wonder if this is the last year PB will have them in stock. You’ll find them on sale here: Cozy Pumpkin Pillows.
Another hilarious pillow that’s currently on sale is this cute ghost pillow. I have one similar here in the dollhouse that I found while out shopping. If I didn’t already have one, I would have to get this guy. My grandsons love the one that I bought a few weeks back and argue over who gets to have him in their chair when they visit. Ha! You’ll find this oh-so-scary ghost pillow on sale here: Ghost Pillow.
While we are talking Labor Day sales, here are a few great ones that I’ve spotted over the past few days. I have a thing for quilted Barn Coats and my two favorites that I wear a lot during the winter months are from Talbots and Orvis. I love how non-restrictive they are with no binding or tightness anywhere! I guess they are designed that way for easy movement while doing chores or other things outdoors. Currently, Talbos is offering 40% off the highest regular-priced item, then 25% off everything else, so this is a great chance to get a Barn Coat for 40% off at the start of the fall season. You’ll find this one available here: Quilted Barn Jacket. Love how it looks with denim!
Talbots has brought back their stretch corduroy pants for fall! They are a favorite of mine and come in a bunch of different color options. You’ll find them on sale here: Stretch Corduroy Pants for Fall and Winter.
If it’s still hot where you live or you just want to stock up for next year, this summer top that’s available in several colors was $54.50, marked down to $49.99, and is now 60% off! Love this clearance sale they have going right now! You’ll find this top available here: Summer Top.
Orvis is another one of the places I love to shop for fall and winter. I just somehow naturally link them to this time of year because their fall and winter clothing is superb! This hooded sherpa jacket is currently on sale and it looks like the perfect thing for wearing on a shopping trip to Dorothy Lane this fall. It’s on sale here: Sherpa Jacket.
Love the botanical design on this one! Looking at this warm, fuzzy pullover almost makes me look forward to cold weather! I want to put this one right now! This sale is pretty amazing! This top was $119 and is now on sale now for $41.30! You’ll find it available here: Sherpa Fleece Pullover. Shop everything that’s currently on sale here: Orvis Labor Day Sale.
The desk is going to be rebuilt in the kitchen starting on September 9th. So that means I’ll soon have the refrigerator out of the middle of my breakfast room! When I get back home, I’ll see if I can access the porch to set a table out there. Though I’ve cleared out the dining room china cabinet, along with another cabinet, I still have fall dinnerware in my garage cabinets. Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well with the restoration!
Looking forward to the beautiful table settings linked for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!
If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up. You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links. Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.
Thanks so much Susan! It’s almost time to pull out the pumpkins isn’t it, if only our temps would go down a bit, we are still in the 90s!
Those pot pies–worth buying just for the pastry chicken/cow on top! I foresee a few future tablescapes set with children in mind, especially Halloween and Christmas Eve. Looking forward to your projects in Ga, but even more so to your return North.
You have been in Ohio for some time now, (and got an amazing amount done), will it seem strange to go home to GA ? The house are so different with the exception of duplicate appliances you bought. You said the dollhouse has a mantle. Were you tempted to decorate for fall since you were out shopping ? I think I have saved a ton of money since I was sidelined with medical problems this year.
Have a safe trip. It’s Labor Day weekend
That’s such a beautiful table, Susan. The twig flatware and the autumn leaves really set it off. Image serving soup and some of that pot pie in those dishes. I have a super simple pot pie recipe I make and it’s so good for being so simple. But those look fantastic. As Mia suggested, the little chicken and cow are adorable. 😀
Safe travels back to Georgia. xoxo
I seriously told my husband we need to take a driving trip east, so I can visit a DLM! Only 5 hrs! I love visiting Publix stores when we go south, & twice a month, I drive 3o minutes to the nearest Fresh Market. Anything can become an adventure, right?
I hope all goes well with the desk project! Safe travels…
Heat Index 105…”gasp”…ready for Fall…*sigh* franki
Getting all the feels for fall, and I love it! Setting a table was my order of fall business, and it makes me happy. I even ordered a few things afterward. I ordered a jacket from Talbot’s in summer that I had kept my eye on last year, so I’ll be ready for cooler temps. But it is waaay too hot here. 100° today with real feel 106°.
I may be in Dayton in two weeks. I may have to check that store out. Thanks, Susan.
I love to look at your table creations! Absolutely beautiful!!
Have you ever thought about getting an E-Bike? You could join your Son and DIL on their ride to DLM and even bike rides with your Grandson’s. Love the grocery store (DLM). I am getting really tired of bagging my own groceries, but I live in Washington state and it’s a little too far to go for groceries. LOL Have a good trip back to Georgia and be safe.
That’s a great idea Pam!
I love those pot pies! I might have to try adding some chicken and cow cutouts to mine sometime soon. And those adorable white pumpkin tureens – really darling! You find the best things. Thanks so much for the pre-shopping, and for hosting. Hope you have a lovely long weekend!
What a beautiful tablescape. Thank You for sharing.
HAPPY FALL
Joan,Marion and Marilyn
Susan, I just ordered the PB white pumpkin soup bowls two days ago & also have other white and orange ones as well. I’d love to have turkey figural ones like or similar to yours to go w/ our Spode china & chargers like yours. Could you let me know the manufacturer of yours & perhaps Replacements could find them for me–would so appreciate that as I’ve searched high & low for years now. Your fall tablescape is beautiful! Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well w/ the GA desk rebuild. Safe trip to GA and a very happy fall. Hugs!
