Welcome to the 900th Metamorphosis Monday party! I have quite a few random Before and Afters to share today, plus some fun info that I hope you’ll find helpful. Recently, I purchased three additional Ring Camera Floodlights for the house in Georgia. I went with the same ones I have in Ohio since they work so well and have great reviews. (Ring camera floodlight is available here: Ring Camera Floodlight.)

When I purchased my 3rd Ring floodlight about a week ago, I noticed an offer of “Professional Installation” for just $89.99. I was happy to see that since that’s less expensive than having the company I always use for electrical work install it. Unfortunately, when the installation guy arrived on Saturday, he informed me that he’s not allowed to climb onto roofs to do installations. As you can see, it’s not exactly on the roof, but he would have been standing on the top section that sticks out over my bay window in my kitchen. He would have been allowed to install the Ring light that I recently had installed near my garage door. That one did require the electrician to stand on a ladder, but I guess ladders are okay since the guy from National Assemblers said that he could have installed that one.

So, it looks like I’ll have to call my electrician again. By the way, I looked up National Assemblers online, and it appears that they mostly put furniture and other stuff together, thus their name. They are allowed to swap out a light fixture for another light fixture, but they can’t run wiring since they aren’t actual electricians. Just wanted to share this in case you purchase a Ring Camera Floodlight and opt in for the $89.99 installation deal. I’m sure they install Ring Doorbells, since those would not require any climbing or new electrical wiring.

Last week, I shared how I finally got around to replacing the flimsy shelves that came with my favorite storage cabinets that I have here in the basement. (Love the cabinets, hate the shelves.)

A few days ago, I did the same thing again here in the garage.

I had two cabinets here in the garage for which I had never updated the shelving. It was the two cabinets in the center of the four visible on the back wall.

Here’s a before photo of one of those cabinets—note the sagging, bowing shelves, especially on the 2nd and 3rd shelves down from the top.

Here’s how those two cabinets look now. Much better! The empty spaces on the shelves are where the glasses I’ve taken to Ohio used to be.

One more thing I thought I’d share in today’s post—this tip is for cat owners who use the Litter Genie Platinum Pail.

I’ve tried a couple of the Litter Genies on the market, and my favorite one so far is the Litter Genie Platinum Pail, which is made of stainless steel. I prefer it to the regular Litter Genie since I find the bags that fit inside are easier to change when needed. My only beef is that the bags are a bit pricey. (Litter Genie Stainless Steel Platinum Pail is available here: Litter Genie Stainless Steel Platinum Pail.)

I did an online search to see if anyone had made bags to fit that were less expensive, and I found these BrightOn litter bags below. The reviews looked good, so I ordered a set of three. They fit the Litter Genie Platinum pail great, and so far, have functioned just as well as the brand bags. Some of the reviews online state that they keep odors in even better. The LG name-brand bags are $29.61 for 50 bags. You’ll find those here: Litter Genie Easy Roll. The BrightOn bags that I’ve found to work just as well are $28.99 for 75 bags. So you get 1/3 more bags for around the same price as the LG-brand bags. You’ll find the more affordable BrightOn bags here: Affordable Litter Bags That Fit Litter Genie. (Note: These bags are designed to fit the Litter Genie Platinum Pail.)

I’ll leave you with this scene that almost gave me a heart attack. Normally, at night, when I crawl into bed, within minutes, I have two kitties joining me. They know it’s bedtime when they hear the sound machine turn on. A few nights ago, no kitties showed up. After about 15 minutes, I started to worry, so I got up to see what they were doing. As I walked into one of their favorite snoozing areas, the upstairs living room/bonus room, I gasped! This is what I saw, except they were lying down and asleep when I walked in. I guarantee you this was Agatha’s idea. She’s always the one who comes up with these shenanigans, and Beatrice is happy to follow along. Ha! Thank goodness the company, Wicked Brick, makes these protective cases super sturdy! Out of curiosity, I weighed Beatrice this morning, and she weighs 7.6 lbs. Agatha feels even heavier. So that’s over 15 lbs of cat sitting atop that case!

Can you imagine me trying to reassemble a destroyed 3,955-piece Home Alone House back together again‽ If you have this Home Alone Lego house, I can attest to the soundness of the Wicked Brick Display case! lol (Home Alone Lego House is available here: Home Alone Lego House.)

I found them sleeping on top of the case again last night. Thankfully, the case is nice and heavy, so it doesn’t move easily; otherwise, it would probably be on the floor by now. I think I’ll look for Wicked Brick’s email on their website and send them this picture! Hopefully, they are still making these cases!

Looking forward to all the great Before and Afters linked below for this week’s Metamorphosis Monday!
Metamorphosis Monday: Metamorphosis Monday is a party that’s all about Before and Afters. Please link up your Before and After projects, like DIY projects, room makeovers, craft projects, and even recipes. Please do not link up Table Settings; save those for our Tablescape Thursday party on Thursday. If you are participating in Met Monday, link your post to the party using the “permalink” to your MM post and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on the name of your post, then copy and paste the address (that shows in the address bar at the top of your blog) into the “URL” box for InLinkz when prompted.

Oh goodness! That’s not much room for them to fall asleep on. I’m glad they didn’t fall off while snoozing, lol. How funny though. They must like the feel of the plexiglass. I hope you do send the company that picture!
That’s too bad about your flood light installation. I hope you don’t have any trouble getting your money back. And I’m glad to see you were able to replace your cabinet shelves. I thought you had said the original shelves were supposed to hold 35 pounds, but surely those glasses don’t weigh 35 pounds. The way the shelves are bowed, it looks like the glasses could slide and bump and break. The cabinets are expensive. They should include better shelves! Anyway, glad you were able to fix that issue.
I so appreciate seeing pictures of your basement storage and garage. I just love the clean, organized appearance and function so much. I hope you have a great week, Susan.
Don’t worry, they have already credited me for the install. I know, I don’t know why they ship them with such flimsy shelving. I’m sure it would increase shipping costs to actually make them with dencer shelves and of course the shelves would be more expensive too. The shelves they are shipped with are pretty useless unless you’re just storing something very very lightweight inside. Thanks so much, Pam!
I’ll say it again: those Kitties are adorable but naughty! With “herding cats,” you never know what they will do!
Shelves look great now and your basement and garage are so organized and have so much space!
Thanks so much, Judy! They definitely are keeping me on my toes everyday! Lol
Susan,
Thanks so much for hosting this charming party!!! I truly do appreciate it as I do know the time involved with it….I hope you and your family are well and enjoying your week!

Thanks, Deb! Have a great week!
Hi Susan!
The kittens are so adorable! And if you are ever in need of expert lego builders just say. My sons would be at your place in a heartbeat.
Wendy
He sounds like my grandsons, we are all addicted to Legos in this family. LOL Thanks, Wendy!
There are many wired doorbell cameras with audio out there. You seem to be happy with the Ring. How did you decide to choose that one?
Your garage and shelves look terrific, Susan.
Cats are crepuscular, meaning they are at their most active at dusk and dawn. I’ve finally resorted to closing off some rooms in my house, as they just get into all sorts of trouble. I have two ten year old cats. One is extremely finicky about his litter box. No matter what, I could never keep it clean enough for him. I would scoop before I went to bed, then inevitably I would wake up in the morning to discover he had left his calling card – again! I finally acquiesced and bought one of those very expensive Whisker Litter Robots. I am praying it solves the problem.
I tried their doorbell camera first here in GA and was pleased with how well it worked. (I installed it myself.) Also, the reviews have always been good on Amazon. When I added a Ring doorbell camera to the house in Ohio, I decided to add a floodlight camera to replace the ancient, poorly working floodlight there. The electrician I hired in Ohio said that Ring is the only system that he recommends. He had negative things to say about some of the others systems he’s installed for customers. So between my experience and the information he provided, I decided to stay/continue with Ring.
Thanks, Lisa! I really enjoyed renovating those two spaces; it was long overdue. Sorry you are going through that with your kitties. These guys have been really good so far about that. I’ve thought about the robotic litter boxes, may try one, one day. If you get one, please let me know how your kitties like it.
Good morning. Where did you get your new storage shelves and what did they cost? I also have some bowing shelves. Please provide a link to the order site. Thank you for your help.
I purchased them through Amazon and through Walmart. They are by Ameriwood and are called SystemBuild. They still have them on Amazon and a gray color. I will find the link for those tomorrow morning and we’ll reply back with the link, but if you go to Amazon and type in SystemBuild cabinets, they will probably pop up in the gray color. Hopefully they will get the white ones back in, as well. Regarding cost, I think back when I was buying them the cabinets that are all shelves were in the 325 to $350 range and the cabinets that had two drawers at the bottom with shelves above we’re always more expensive, I think in the $400 range. Hard to remember now since I purchased these quite a few years back.
I just realized you are talking about the shelves and not the cabinets. I purchased the shelves in Home Depot. They are melamine and the Home Depot near me will cut them down to whatever size you need. So what I always do is take a shelf with me so they know exactly the size I need. They run around $15.99 each, the size I have been purchasing. Hope that helps!
Wow, Susan! I think I could eat off the floors of your basement and garage, they look so clean. I love organization of spaces and don’t like clutter.
I bought new sturdy metal shelving units for our garage. Now, all of our camping gear, auto, painting, cleaning and storage supplies are organized off the floor. We have a heavy duty garden tool rack that is customizable for different tools. Our power tool batteries (Dewalt is my favorite) is on a charging table for easy accessibility.
I agree with replacing shelves that bow.
Your kitties are adorable. Just this morning, after I finished the yard cleanup from all the wind from yesterday, my husband came home and saw the next door neighbor’s cat sprawled out on our front doormat like he owns the place. lol
I try to keep them spotless. Those spaces bothered me for so long before I renovated them, so now that they are bright, cheerful and clean, I’m determined to keep them that way! lol
Isn’t it wonderful to get everything off the floor?! That is the best feeling when everything is organized! Congrats on your new shelving! Makes life so much easier!
Ha! That is so cute about the neighbor’s kitty! >^..^<
I have a litter robot, I bought in 2018 and it works like new today. I had never had cats and I knew quickly, this was going to be necessary. I have found the right timer for my cats that allows for complete dry with finally a store litter. The tray has charcoal filters and now I can just pull and dump it in a regular trash bag. Cats have always been accommodating, even through litter trials. FYI
Oh my word those little brats! Of all the places to nap they take that risk, they’re lucky they didn’t roll off while asleep. They must really like it there to go back more than once. They definitely keep you on your toes.
We inherited my daughter’s cats and those two loved to get on the furniture after we’d gone to bed. They loved sleeping on the top of the sofa and chairs. I finally got to the point of putting a piece of aluminum foil over the sofa cushion backs and a piece on the chair seats. That took care of that business. It is a little embarrassing when someone comes and my furniture is covered with foil!
