In The BNOTP Library: Sentimental Living From the Porch

Sharing another one of my favorite porch books today. This one is chock full of wonderful ideas for decorating and entertaining on the porch. I noticed tonight that I purchased it from Amazon in December 2007. That’s exactly when I was knee-deep in the middle of adding a screened-in porch and front porch to my home.

Sentimental Living From the Porch by Alda Ellis

3 Things I Like About This Book:

  • This is one of the prettiest books you’ll ever read about porches. If you didn’t have porch fever before you read this book, you surely will afterward with so many wonderful pictures of porches dressed for the seasons and holidays.
  • The ideas and information for decorating and entertaining outdoors and on porches are presented in a seasonal format. So you can flip to the season you’re in and find lots of inspiration for porch living and hosting a porch party.
  • Last part of the book (pages 145 to 176) contains tutorials, templates, and detailed info for making many of the lovely things seen throughout the book. Wish there were more books like this one being written today! I’m going to go out on a limb and say this is probably my favorite of all the porch books I own, and I have quite a few!

  4. Hi Susan,
Just wanted to let you know that I did receive this email and also the email this morning about the 6 wreaths for the 4th. Hope this works, I really missed not getting the subscription. Although, I always try to check up on you daily anyway. I enjoy your posts so much, I feel like I’m hearing from a dear friend. Thanks so much.

    • Debbie, I’m sooo glad! I have no idea why Feedburner email were not getting through but I’m thrilled the paid service I’m using now is working! I would have moved my subscriber list to another service a long, long time ago if I had known it would fix the issue. I’m still not sure what was preventing them from getting through but just happy as can be that it’s working now. If for any reason it stops, do let me know! XO

  5. I bought this book from Ebay a few years back and when I got it, it was autographed inside! I love the ideas for the different seasons and enjoy your ideas for the seasons, too! Your site reminds me of early editions of Victoria which I fondly cherish and enjoy often. Just the thing for an afternoon on my porch!

  6. Gloria in Pgh says

Susan: I just received my copy of this book today which I purchased based on your post. I love it! I can’t wait to sit on my porch and read it, glass of iced tea at my side. I am on vacation next week (spending my week off at my favorite place … my own screened porch!) and will definitely read this book! Thanks for the recommendation!

    • You will love it, Gloria! It will make you want to throw a party on your porch! 🙂 Have fun and enjoy your week to the fullest…no stress or work allowed! 🙂
