A Small Addition to the Garage That I’m Absolutely Loving

Welcome to the 707th Metamorphosis Monday!

Over the last week, I’ve been sharing the dramatic makeover my garage went through recently. (See that makeover in full here: Dramatic Garage Makeover with New Lighting, Fresh Paint, and New Flooring.) This weekend I shared over two posts, the 2-day process of how the flooring was installed. A painter will be coming out to complete a few touchups on the back wall, the garage door and the shutters very soon.

In the meantime, I’ve been assembling a new storage cabinet and just ordered one more. I also added a super practical addition this weekend. In the past, I’ve always had a roll of paper towels on a holder over on the purple potting table and a box of pop-up Kleenex Hand Towels on the tool chest. I just ran out of the hand towels recently, so I moved the paper towels over to the tool chest as seen below.

I’ve decided to not buy more of the hand towels because they required two hands to pull out a single towel due to the way the towels were firmly interconnected inside the box. Have no idea why they were designed like that but I really didn’t like it. I noticed other people were complaining of the same issue in the reviews online. So I got an idea! I decided to look for a paper towel dispenser that I could mount on the side of one of the cabinets nearest the tool chest.

I love how it looks and it’s working great! I didn’t center it on the side of the cabinet. Instead, I mounted it slightly toward the back of the cabinet, not wanting it to be too close to the front edge. Also, I didn’t use the screws that came with the dispenser, they were a tiny bit too long and may have protruded through the sidewall of the cabinet. I had some screws that were the right size and slightly less long. I attached it where the top two screws are going into the side of the “fixed” shelf in the cabinet, so it’s definitely attached soundly! It doesn’t budge when I pull a towel off. I love how the stainless finish looks with the tool chest! (Paper towel dispenser is available here: Stainless Steel Paper Towel Dispenser.)

Paper Towel Dispenser, Great for Garage or Bathroom

These are the paper towels I purchased to go inside. You get a bunch: 1,200 paper towels for $21.84. They are nice and thick, really absorb well and I’m very pleased with how they dispense from the holder. (Paper towels are available here: Paper Towels.)

When filling the dispenser, I only placed one batch/package of towels into the dispenser. There was room for a few more, but I read that overfilling or stuffing the dispenser can make it hard to pull a towel out. So far, it’s working flawlessly!

I love that I can easily pull off a towel with only one hand which is great when you’re dealing with spills or messes. In the reviews, people were even putting these dispensers in their home bathrooms. I really do like how it looks here in the garage!

Just wanted to share this since it’s a little addition/tweak here in the garage that I’m totally obsessed over! It’s so nice having the surface of the tool chest clear and free of clutter. If you could use one of these in your garage (or kitchen/bath) you’ll find it available here where I purchased mine: Stainless Steel Paper Towel Dispenser.

I have all the doors on the cabinets now…forgot to take a photo. I’m going to be attaching them to the wall tomorrow and will start loading the dishes back into them this week.

I have one more cabinet coming for the front wall, it should be here by Friday. Once the painter is done, I’ll add the doors to those cabinets and attach them to the wall. I’m looking forward to sharing the final look and what I’m storing in each cabinet once everything is finally done.

  1. Your garage is looking amazing! I’ve told you this many times before, you are the most organized person I know! Thanks for the party Susan~

    • lol Thanks, Jenna! I get the biggest kick out of tweaking any process. If it saves me 5 seconds or makes something a tiny bit easier, it makes me happy. I have no idea why I love that so much…it’s a disease! 😉

  2. You do know the whole entire world now has garage envy, right? LOL! I knew when you first mentioned you were going to do this transformation that I would love it…and indeed I do!!! Well done.

    • Thanks so much, Kat! When I was initially looking online for flooring ideas, some of the garages I saw were unbelievable! I had no idea garages had gotten so fancy! lol

  3. Mary Ellen Murphy says

I have the same garage floor. Did the installer recommend that you put down some type of covering for the area under where the car is parked? Water from the car’s AC may puddle and cause damage over time. I use an inexpensive indoor/outdoor rug for that area to catch any drips.
    BTW-garage looks amazing!

    • No, they seemed to indicate that wouldn’t be necessary but I’ll double check with them, just to make sure. The polyaspartic coating is pretty impervious to just about everything from what I’ve read. I saw one of the Before/Afters where they had cleaned the floor of a garage that was really badly stained using the cleaner they give to you before they leave, and it looked brand new.

  4. The garage looks amazing especially the floor. One question though. How do you keep bugs out?

    • Thanks! I get a perimeter pest control treatment done around my home on a quarterly basis. In the south, we have those humongous Palmetto bugs (or whatever they are called) and they will try to come in if you don’t have some kind of perimeter treatment. I only occasionally see a spider in the garage but that’s about it.

  5. That paper towel dispense is so clever and sensible; of course every garage/too shed should have one.

  6. You are inspiring me! Love everything you’ve done with your garage!

  7. That looks perfect….the towels are right where you need them and everything looks SO organized ! You have inspired me to tackle a few projects today 🙂

  8. Sorry, I need my link to be added again.
    Thanks
    Amy

  9. Great solution! I love practical ideas like that. This ongoing project is really coming together. Of course, the stars of the show are the newly painted walls and the amazing floor, but I can’t wait to see it fully finished with your new cabinets. As Kat says, it sure does inspire garage envy. I wonder how many people will be tackling their own garages after seeing this, lol. 😀

  10. Thank you for hosting! I have been thinking about doing my garage floor, but clearing it out stops me! lol

    • Ugh, I know. That is definitely the worst part! It’s worth it though, just hold that finished image in your head as you slog through! 🙂

  11. Tina W Reynolds says

Marvelous! Sometimes the little things in life make all the difference! What a beautiful, successful project.

  12. Your garage transformation is totally amazing! thanks so much for having us over.

  13. Linda Gardepe says

Your garage is just fantistic! I could live in it!! thank you for sharing all of your wonderful tips and advice.

  14. I love love love your garage. I agree with Jenna. You are the most organized woman I know! I love your ideas and copy many of them. Can’t wait to see the end process. You are a wonder woman! My hero!

  15. What a great idea Susan – I love the towel dispenser, and it looks perfect in there. Thanks for another wonderfully inspiring party!

  16. Kathleen L Lazarski says

The dispenser very industrial looking so perfect for the garage and matches the tool chest. Another perk I would think would be it keeps the towels clean! Exposed paper towels gather dust and dirt. I bought Tackle paper towels because they were so cheap. They would not tear off completely on a vertical holder so you needed two hands and it was very annoying. They seemed to go on forever (is that a good thing?). When I switched back to Bounty I was so relieved to be able to tear a towel off with one hand. It’s the small things that make life easier. lol

  17. Bobbi Duncan says

I just love before & after pictures! Your garage looks terrific. We need to have an overhaul on our garage after contractors are done using it to cut trim work & such. I hate going through our messy garage, especially as our home’s interior is so neat & clean. I saved all your info. for when we do ours, so thanks a million. Hugs!

  18. franki Parde says

    Game changer!! franki

  19. Wanda F Bradey says

This change is going to make you so happy! Looks great, by the way. We used the same type epoxy on our garage. With all your lighting, paint and flooring, you will be so happy to get everything back into place. I love the way your garage looks and all your storage. Thanks for sharing. Wanda

  20. Thanks again for hosting this charming party every week! I know how much time goes into doing so and I want you to know that it I truly appreciate it!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  21. I’m sorry if you posted this before but where did you purchase your cabinets that hold your dishes in the garage? Thanks and as I said before I actually do have garage envy since our garage is a MESS! lol

    • Thanks, Nita! I’ve ordered them from both Amazon and Walmart. I just another one (without drawers) in this style here: https://bit.ly/3PgKgFy . It will arrive on Wednesday. They were out of that style on Amazon the last time I checked. Also, the price was also better at Walmart.
However, for the cabinet with drawers, the price is better on Amazon right now. You can see it here: https://amzn.to/3dxsi4z . So when I ordered it a few weeks ago, I ordered it from Amazon.

    • I finally found the older post where you stated they came from Amazon and Walmart and possibly Lowes has them. Sorry to have bothered you again.

      • No bother at all, feel free to ask questions anytime! I haven’t ordered one from Lowes yet, but they had some pretty good pricing online. The delivery time was pretty far out though…and I’m impatient. So far, the two times I’ve ordered them from Walmart, they showed delivery a week out, but the first one arrived in 3 days and the one I just ordered is arriving just as fast…due to arrive this Wednesday. I’m shocked how fast they are shipping right now, at least in my area. I also like that Walmart delivered the last one using FedEx…I didn’t have any damaged parts, so that was good.

  22. What a perfect storage system for tablewares. So clean and organized. I wish everyone would do storage behind the scenes posts. Your garage is now too nice for cars

  23. Sheila in South Carolina says

I’m afraid if my garage looked that beautiful I’d either think I should park in the driveway or that it needed an oriental rug! You must be so delighted!

  24. Thanks so much!

  25. Cyndi Raines says

So very happy for you Susan! It really is amazing. I’m always happy when I get my garage swept out, lol!

  26. Cyndi Raines says

So very happy for you Susan! It really is amazing. I’m always happy when I get my garage swept out, lol! Really like your new towel dispenser.

    • Thanks! It’s getting a lot of use already! lol Hope you had a great weekend, Cyndi! Can’t believe summer will soon be over, seems like it just got here!
