A Beautiful Spring Table Setting in Vibrant Hues of Lilac Purple and Emerald Green

Welcome to the 561st Tablescape Thursday!

A bit earlier in the spring, I received a lovely email from Warren whose tables I’ve shared here on BNOTP in the past. In his email Warren shared some beautiful photos along with information about a table setting he had created for a dinner party with friends. Warren said, “My wife, Kathie, wanted a simple but colorful tablescape for a small dinner party we were having for a couple of neighbors. I took the opportunity to showcase our beautiful dining room table.

Countryside Woodcraft furniture makers in Russell, Massachusetts, built the natural cherry double pedestal table to our specifications. The company is run a community of Mennonites, who do exquisite work. If you visit their showroom you can view their furniture-making operation through large windows in their showroom. (Be sure to ask to see the hidden pantry; it is stunning.)

The table is 48 inches wide and 72 inches long. We chose to have rounded corners so that when the table is extended to its full 108 inches we are able to seat comfortably twelve guests. We used a semi-gloss finish, which wears like steel. The table shows only a few scratches and dings even though we have used it for all our meals and dinner parties over the past seven years. The vibrant purple, emerald green and silver items used in the tablescape stand out like jewels on the natural cherry.”

“Tirschenreuth made the antique plates. I do not remember how I found them but I really liked the gold border, the green band and, in particular, the gorgeous floral display in the center.”

“I thought the plates would work well in a number of different tablescapes, and, in particular, in this tablescape with its theme of green and purple. One at a time, I have purchased almost a complete set of twelve plates from eBay. I think I have exhausted the supply since the plates have not appeared on eBay in the past two years. The chargers are from the Christmas Tree Shop.”

“The butterfly napkin rings are made by Lenox.”

“The wine and water glasses pick up the purple and green theme. Cristal D’Arques-Durand made the emerald green glasses, which were purchased on eBay. The purple wine glasses were made by Artland and purchased at HomeGoods. Unfortunately, only seven glasses were on sale, Artland no longer makes the glasses, and they have not appeared on eBay; so, my desired set of twelve glasses is incomplete.”

“The silver centerpiece is comprised of a teapot, repurposed as a vase, and a tray of a tea service that was given to my parents over eighty years ago. The tea service cleaned up well even though it had languished in a variety of attics for decades becoming progressively more tarnished and corroded. The purple and lavender silk lilacs added a burst of brilliant color.”

The glass candleholders were passed down to Kathie from her grandmother.

Thank you, Susan, for sharing Warren & Kathy’s table. Have a great rest of the week.

  8. seeing the silverware reminds me when I use to collect box tops or the UP bar code of some sort from Betty Crocker or was it General Mills (I think) and sent them in for silverware which I still have several pieces of.

Hi Robin, you are correct. Years ago, Kathie collected box tops from General Mills products and redeemed them for the flatware. I purchased an additional service for twelve on ebay. We use this flatware for large dinner parties or more informal parties.

  11. Hi Susan,

I was re-reading your June 15 post about steaming wrinkles out of the Hermes tie. You posted a link to your garment steamer, but I was wondering if you happened to check out those Effie garment steamers available at helloeffie.com? I do not own one, but they look pretty impressive, (and fancy, too!)

  12. So lovely and elegant. The colors are so vibrant and bright. Thank You for sharing.

  13. I may have found your purple stemware. On Amazon search for purple stemware on page 4…Artland 52411B Brocade wine glasses, set of 4, 15 oz. lavender. Showed one set left in stock as of June 20. Also available in silver.
