A New Dining Set For The Breakfast Room, French Market Style

Welcome to the 895th Metamorphosis Monday! Hope your weekend was a great one and you had time to play and relax! I’ve been catching up on things around the house. This is the time of year when I open the doors to the screened porch in the early morning to let the cool night air in, then close them as the day starts to heat up, although some days I’ve been able to leave them open all day.

Pollen season has begun, so I’m following the advice of several BNOTP readers who cover up their porch furniture during this messy time of year. It’s easy to uncover a chair when I wish to enjoy the porch for a while, but I’m hoping this will save me some furniture cleaning once the pollen has passed. So all that is to say, if you notice sheets/covers over furniture on the porch in the photos of this post, that’s why. lol

Over the years, you’ve seen me set a lot of tables here in the breakfast room. Many, many years ago, guessing it’s been around 25 years or more, I purchased a wicker set for this breakfast room from a store called Grand Harbour. Grand Harbour was similar to Pier 1, and I purchased quite a few items from the location near me before they sadly closed.

The reason I purchased a wicker dining set for the breakfast room back in the day was to satisfy my craving for wicker furniture. I’ve always loved the look of wicker, love its casual, relaxed look. At that time, I had not yet added the screened porch, so this was my sneaky way of getting a little wicker in my life.

Once I added a screened porch to the house and filled it with white wicker, having another wicker dining set just a few feet away inside felt a bit redundant. Also, the wicker dining set had always felt a tad too large for the breakfast room. The table, at 48 inches, was fine, but the chairs were really big, making it difficult to throw back the shutter panels in the bay window without wacking them into the chairs.

So when I purchased the cottage in Ohio…

…I moved the wicker dining set to the sunroom of that home. The set is even a little big for that room. I may one day sell it if I find something more suitable for that porch.

The breakfast room in Georgia has remained empty until just a few days ago. If you’ve been following BNOTP for a while, you know that I purchased this dining set for the Ohio dining room shortly after purchasing the home. I love how it looked and could envision reupholstering the chairs in a pretty fabric someday.

Before I purchased that set for the Dollhouse dining room, though Rooms to Go didn’t have that same set in their store that’s around 20 minutes from my home, they did have the round table set in stock. So, I visited in person to get a feel for the finish and how the chairs looked/sat. They sat great and felt super sturdy and well-made.

Back when I visited Rooms to Go to see the round-table set to get an idea of how the rectangular set would look, I was super tempted to buy the round table for the Ohio house since I liked its base so much. Ultimately, I went with their rectangular-shaped table since it seats 8 with its leaf in place. I knew that would be perfect for dinners with family in the future. But I never forgot about the round set.

Though it’s been almost two years, thankfully, Rooms to Go has not discontinued carrying the round “French Market” set that I saw that day inside their store.

Though this table is 6 inches bigger than my previous wicker dining table, the chairs are not as bulky/wide, so this set fits better in this space. Also, I can now bifold the shutter panels back without banging them into the dining chairs.

I think I will enjoy having the larger table since it will give more space to those dining here. It should also work great for larger centerpieces. Here’s how the table looks with the lower part of the shutter panels closed. Taking photos while pointing the camera directly at this bay window is always a challenge!

And here’s how the breakfast area looks with the shutter panels bifolded back. I placed a few dishes on the table to get a feel for the spacing. It would be easy to scoot the place settings around to add a 5th place setting if needed. That’s one advantage of a 54-inch wide table. The chairs are incredibly comfortable, too. They are the same chairs that I have around the table in the Dollhouse/Ohio.

I need to think about what fabric I would like on the chairs. I may choose a fun buffalo plaid. I love how that looks in breakfast/dining rooms!

You may remember this photo that I shared a few months back, showing chairs with a pretty buffalo-check fabric.

I think something similar would be great for these chairs.

I like the design of this table; it feels hardy and durable. The Dollhouse table has the same type of surface, and it has held up beautifully to my grandsons and their friends who like visiting for movie time, popcorn, and ice cream in the afternoons. lol

New Table for Breakfast Room

Unfortunately, Rooms to Go hasn’t expanded everywhere. When I bought the set for the Ohio house, I had to have it delivered to my Georgia home and U-haul it up to the Dollhouse myself. Over the years, I’ve searched for a dining set that I liked, and could never find anything until I found this set. Plus, it’s very affordable compared to other sets I’ve seen available. So, I feel comfortable recommending it, but if you are thinking of purchasing this set, it’s best to go see it in a RTG store first to make sure you like it.

By the way, this isn’t a sponsored post, and Rooms to Go doesn’t know I exist unless they look me up in their customer database. I’m just another one of their happy customers. This set must be a huge seller for them since they’ve been carrying it for a long time. I’m glad I was able to buy it before it was discontinued. Hopefully, that won’t happen anytime soon since it is so popular. I think the whole “French Market” line has been super popular. You’ll find their French Market line of dining furniture here: Rooms To Go French Market Dining Set.

I have been eyeing that dining room set for awhile now too. I follow Chair Whimsey, who may be too loud for your tastes, but she does have lots of resources for beautiful chair fabrics. You may find something of interest.

  4. Beautiful and cozy looking set. Hoping you are going to add a rug once you set your mind on what fabric you will be using.

    • I may eventually, although they say a run should be big enough that you can push your chair back and not have it go off the rug. That would be the rug partially into the walking path through the kitchen. Also, the kitties are really tempted to sharpen their claws on rugs. They use their scratching posts and have the furniture alone, but rugs and carpet are a huge temptation right now.

  5. Don’t you love it when something “is still there” when you go back? Did you purchase any extra chairs or does it have a leaf? Someday big boys will be at that table too in case they go to a Georgia college and stay with you.

    • No, it doesn’t have a leaf as the rectangular table does. I’m okay with that, though, would rather it not for this room I was tempted to purchase extra chairs since I only have 6 in Ohio and the table will seat 8, but I didn’t. It will be interesting to see if they go to Georgia.

  6. Your table set looks perfect for your dining area. I also like the white rooster on your table. Do you have a source for it? I have several roosters in full color that I have been considering using white spray paint…but would rather just have the all white one and done.

    • Thanks, Kari! I was having trouble remembering where I found him. My memory is terrible about stuff like that. Per this table setting below, I mentioned that I found him in Cracker Barrel, around the 2020 timeframe: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/dining-with-beautiful-blue-willow-on-a-cloudy-day/
I do like the white centerpieces like that one because a bow or ribbon can be added around the neck to add a bit of color when trying to coordinate with dinnerware. I have a white pheasant that I purchased from Williams Sonoma a few years back, as well. Both Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma are good places to check…and of course, Cracker Barrel.

  7. Looks terrific and comfy. Round tables are great for conversation and card games. Enjoy

  8. LOVE this set, Susan!

  9. Sabrina Holmes says

The wicker set didn’t seem crowded but I’m surprised at how much more space you have now. I love buffalo check!

    • I know, it’s surprising, especially since this table is 6 inches wider. The other table was 48 inches and this one is 54 inches.
      I do, too…love buffalo check!

  10. Margo Kuhn says

I really like both of them. I am looking for a round table and chairs for my breakfast room and this one might be perfect and the price is reasonable. I’ll have to check if they ship to So. California.

    • Every time I looked online to see what was available, this one was always my favorite and always turned out to be the less expensive option, too. So that was a win-win. I don’t know why they don’t offer shipping to all 50 states. They must miss out on a lot of sales because of that.

  11. Nancy Brantley says

Table and chairs look good for space size. Love buffalo fabric. Had buffalo fabric in our master bedroom in previous house.

  12. Wow, the space looks so different! Remarkably different! I’m glad you’re happy with the quality and size. It’s hard to believe the table is bigger when overall, the whole set looks so much smaller! I had a set very much like your wicker set, only dark wicker and my chairs were the same way. They took up so much room! This fits so nicely. And I like your idea of changing the fabric to buffalo checks. I do love buffalo check fabric. In fact, that’s how I originally found your blog, Susan. I was looking for buffalo check curtains and a link to your post about your office curtains came up. There was even a picture, so I had to investigate. That was years ago and I’ve been hear ever since. 😀

    • I know, the old table was 48 inches, and this one is 54 inches. The big difference is that the chairs for the wicker set were much bigger/wider. They didn’t sit as comfortably as these, despite being larger.
That is so cool how you found BNOTP. I doubt that would happen today since it defaults to AI so often now.

  13. Thanks so much for hosting this wonderful party!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!! I hope you are having a great week!!

  14. You mentioned occasionally adding a fifth place setting. Will you order an additional one or two chairs then? I sometimes wish furniture makers designed folding chairs in a compatible style to their regular chairs! But you don’t seem to have needed extra chairs with the wicker set, so maybe you don’t need them.

    • I was tempted, especially since the table in Ohio will seat 8 with the leaf, and the chairs are currently on sale. But here in Georgia, where I’m using this dining set, I can always pull a chair from the dining room if I need an additional chair or two. That way, I don’t have to worry about where to store the extra chairs. Hope I don’t regret that decision.

  15. I love the buffalo check pattern, but I wonder if it will lose its punch because of the design of the back of the chairs just something to think about. Perhaps a vitamin block print type fabric?

    • Hopefully, it won’t. Maybe it will just create another layer of intrigue. lol I’ll have to see if I can slip a piece of fabric underneath the decorative wood part to see how it looks before committing to a fabric. Thanks for mentioning that, Toni…good thing to think about.

    • I meant to say a VIBRANT block print fabric, not vitamin! Sorry.

      • Lol, Toni. I actually looked up Vitamin block print thinking perhaps it was something I hadn’t heard of. No wonder nobody knew what I was talking about!

      • That happens to me all the time with my phone. It never understands the text message I dictate. 🙂

  16. I’ve been following you for a while and love your creativity and design selections. I’m a little confused though. Are you going to maintain both homes or are you planning to move to the dollhouse eventually?

    • I’m not sure. I’m leaning toward not moving to the Dollhouse permanently for a few practical reasons. I also really, really dislike Ohio weather, for one, but there are other reasons, too…like Ohio’s insane property taxes that are the 8th highest in the country. So, it’s unlikely I’ll move there fulltime.

  17. The new set is lovely. I think it’s funny that your rooster turned around to look out the window when you fully opened the shutters! LOL

  18. I have been searching for a 54″ round table with a French Country feel. But when I click on the link you shared, nothing is shown. :(( I hope it is restocked!

    • The link works okay when I click on it so not sure why it won’t open. They keep it in stock all throughout the year, or at least they have in the past. Maybe try Googling for Rooms to Go and then do a search for French Market Dining Set once you’re on the sight.

  19. Vickie H. says

Oh yes! That new table and chairs is a definite home run! Love it all!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
