My February Favorites + Some Extras That You’ve Been Asking About

I’m sharing a mix of new and old in this February Favorites post. I have both doors open to the screened porch since it’s in the 80s today, and my sinuses are going nuts with the pollen. So I’ll keep this post short on words since my head is feeling quite fuzzy.

I’ve often been asked about the Calista hair tool that I LOVE and have been using for so many years. I have it in two barrel sizes since sometimes my hair is a few inches above my shoulders, and sometimes it is down to my shoulders or just below.

It’s the hair tool that I use to help smooth my hair down after blow drying it and to give my hair a slight upward curl on the end.

For a while, I thought it had been discontinued, but it appears it has just changed its appearance. So if you were one of the lovely ladies who has asked me about this awesome hair tool in the past, you’ll find it still available here: Calista Pro-Heated Round Brush, No Heat Damage for Healthier Looking Hair.  It’s also available in some pretty, spring, floral designs here: Calista Pro-heated Round Brush.

The game, The Genius Square, was a huge hit with my grandsons this past month. Toward the end of the month was my oldest grandson’s birthday, and this game was one of several presents I had for him. I let him open it early since they were all about to leave for a ski vacation; I thought it would help keep my grandsons occupied while waiting in airports and in the evening after skiing all day. My son and DIL said that they played it a ton while away and loved it. She said my son enjoyed playing it, as well. It’s an awesome game for any age, so I very much recommend it! You’ll find it available here: The Genius Square.

Another gift, one that my grandson requested, was these glow-in-the-dark juggling balls. He learned to juggle a few months back during a program they had at school. He caught on very quickly, so quickly that the following day, the instructor had him juggling bowling pins! I can barely juggle two balls. He amazes me with how quickly he catches on to anything that involves sports or hand/eye coordination.

We turned off the lights for this picture below. Though the balls look white in the photo, they are the colors you see in the picture above. They change colors the whole time they are on, although they can be set to be a single color. They are rechargeable but appear to work for a long time between charges. I wish my phone had captured the bright colors of the balls as he juggled them instead of just looking white.  My grandson has had a blast with these, so these are another fun gift idea. You’ll find them available here: Glow-n-the-Dark Juggling Balls.

Right at the very end of January, I got sick with some type of yucky flu. Once the fever, aches, and pains were gone, I was left with the top of my left ear hurting so badly that I couldn’t wear my glasses. It was so strange because it wasn’t hurting on the inside; it was the exterior part of my ear where the temple or arm piece of my glasses rests atop my ear. I’m very nearsighted, so though I don’t need glasses for reading, I do need them to use the computer, for cooking, ironing, etc. I thought the pain would go away after a day or two, but it didn’t. I guess when you have the flu, it can mess with the nerves in your ear. I’ve never experienced that before—having the exterior of my ear hurt after being sick.

Anyway, I did a search and found these protective, knitted, cotton covers that fit over the temples/arms of eyeglasses and ordered them. They worked perfectly, and though my ear was still painful/sensitive for a week or so, I could finally wear my glasses again. My ear no longer hurts, but these covers are so comfortable,  I’ve kept them on my glasses. They are not visible to anyone else since my hair covers them. I love how they help to hold my glasses on my face and keep them from sliding down, which they are prone to do. My glasses have loosened up a bit over the years, and these help snug them up where they fit better. These were sooo helpful during the time I was recovering from the flu, so they are one of my favorite, most important finds for February. If you could use a bit of cushioning on the temples of your glasses, you’ll find these available here: Knitted/Cotton Ear Cushion for Eyeglasses.

This February purchase has been amazing! I love being able to immediately find what I need when one of my grandsons or I needs a Band-Aid.

Bandage Bandaid Organizer

I’ve blogged about this, so I won’t go into a lot of detail, but I very much recommend it for getting your first aid/bandaids/bandages and ointments organized so they can be found quickly when needed. You’ll find this organizer available here: First Aid/Bandage Organizer.

One of my favorite finds during the month of February was The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion series of books! There are 8 available right now, and it’s been such a big hit that the author plans to write a lot more. I think the series will have approximately 24-25 books when it’s done. I’m currently on Book 3 and can’t wait to dive in this weekend! You’ll find these books available in 4 different formats here: The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. I’ve been purchasing the hardback versions (in addition to the two I’ve purchased via Audible) since I know this is a series I will want to collect and read again someday.

A couple of favorite puzzle-related purchases: Love this beautiful puzzle featuring the northern lights, cats, and other wildlife! It is available here: Northern Lights and Kitties Puzzle.

I’ve purchased many types of puzzle trays over the years, and these are by far my absolute favorite. They are large, but also very light, so they don’t make your hand tired when holding them. I have large trays here in Georgia that I love, but they are a bit heavier. These are perfect! You’ll find them available here: Puzzle Sorting Trays.

This is the jewelry box that I’ve been using when traveling between Ohio and Georgia. I hang all my necklaces from the little tabs/hooks at the top and tuck the part that hangs down behind the elasticated pocket at the bottom. I use the section on the left for rings and for some of my earrings. For stud earrings, I place those in the little holes on the flap that is sticking up in the photo. I place my bracelets in the little compartments on the right side. I love that it has the closed area where the flap closes down for those things that are bigger, and that you don’t want banging around. I think that’s where I’ve been keeping my watch. Anyway, this is the perfect size for travel and has so many different storage areas that I can carry all my favorites with me from house to house. You’ll find this well-thought-out jewelry box available here: Pink Jewelry Box for Travel.

Love this toiletry bag! I use this one or a similar black one that I own each time I travel to and from Ohio. It holds a ton! Love how it can be hung from a towel rack when traveling. You’ll find it available here: Toiletry Bag.

I hope you are seeing some beautiful weather! It’s in the 80s here, and the kittens are loving the sunshine out on the porch! They are living out there all day, every day, right now. They come inside with beige feet and beige tails from the pollen. Maybe that’s why my sinuses are going nuts this year, probably from snuggling and kissing pollen-covered kitties! Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. “That flu” GOT US, too!! Seems to strike in many different ways…plus…I h/n had flu, cold, etc for easily 10 years…boy, this one “got me.” My fever was just over 100…but, one full month…I was down. Funny, my ear still hurts…franki

    • Franki, I wonder if you need to go to the doctor to see if you have an ear infection. I almost went a few times in the last week or two wondering if I have a sinus infection. I think my issue right now though is just the pollen. I hope you feel better!

  2. You always have the best suggestions. I added the Callista, the eyeglass arm covers and the puzzle trays to my Amazon basket.
What size Callista do you use? I’m thinking I should get the 1.5 as my hair is long and can get frizzy depending on the weather.

    • I actually have both sizes since sometimes I wear my hair shorter and sometimes I wear it longer. If your hair is a few inches up above your shoulders you may need the smaller (1-inch) but if it is to the shoulders, you may want the bigger barrel, 1.5 inch. The sizes I have are 1 and 1.5.

  3. Thanks for all the info on your favorites. When you posted about the Band Aid keeper last time, I ordered it. It is great!! Now my husband can even find the size of band aid he needs without tearing all the boxes apart trying to find a certain size. It is wonderful to have all sizes and shapes organized into one container. Plus it holds my neosporin too. Thank you for sharing. Those kittens are just precious.

    • Peggy, I know exactly what you mean! All those random boxes were driving me crazy. They were forever falling over and trying to find the right size bandaid was a mess. I wish I had organized mine a long time ago. Def makes my life easier! So glad it’s working for you and hubby!

  4. Those juggling balls look like so much fun! And my library is getting the first Emma Lion book for me. I’m still loving that Genius Square puzzle, it’s so entertaining. And I got the toiletry bag you recommended quite a while back. It sure came in handy.

Beatrice (or Agatha) looks so cute stretching in that picture. How’s your hand these days?

  5. Thanks to you I started reading The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion series and they are a delight. My public library has the first two in audio version and the narrator is wonderful. Highly recommend a listen.

    • They are! Ingrid, love hearing that you are enjoying them, too. It’s been a long time since I got excited about a book series. I listened to the first two via Audible on my drive back from Ohio, but I’ve been purchasing the hardback versions, as well since sometimes I like to go old-school and hold a book in my hand.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
