Welcome to the 666th Tablescape Thursday, a blog party sharing beautiful table settings for all occasions!
It was pretty hot and humid out on the porch yesterday, so I waited until later in the day to set this table. Then a big storm came along so it got quite dark. It looked like it was 8:00 pm when it was really closer to 5:00! So it may look a bit dark out in some of the pictures in this post.
Do you have any special plans for the 4th of July this year?
I pulled out one of my favorite dish patterns for this week, this wonderful dinnerware designed by Warren Kimble. The name of this dinnerware is Colonial, although I’ve seen it produced under other names, as well.
I love trying to come up with a new way to use this beautiful flag dinnerware for the 4th every year. This year, the ants joined in the party! lol I think I may have used these cute ant plates once before a really long time ago for Tablescape Thursday.
When I set this table yesterday, I was wishing I had a picnic basket to use in my centerpiece. I bought one last year when I was in Ohio since we love going on picnics with the boys, but unfortunately, I don’t have one here.
Normally I use this cute plaid “picnic” set to decorate with at Christmastime, but who says plaid can’t work for the 4th?! A thermos can hold cold drinks, too!
At Christmastime…
I found this vintage picnic set on eBay many years ago. Inside there’s a little box for carrying sandwiches. Isn’t that the cutest thing?!
So, we’re on a picnic this week, complete with ants!
What’s a picnic without a few ants! Ha!
Again, the dinnerware is “Colonial” designed by Warren Kimble. I found the matching flatware on eBay one year. It’s fun to mix it with other flatware, as I did in this setting.
Here’s a close-up of the flatware from a previous tablescape. I do love it!
The star glasses were a find in Dollar Tree several years back. The red stemware is by Mikasa. Bark-edged chargers seem appropriate for a picnic. 🙂
These chargers are currently on sale for the best price I’ve ever seen them here: Bark-Edged Chargers.
The blue flatware is by Hampton Forge. It’s normally available but appears to be currently out of stock. You can see it here: Blue Flatware. I found it still available in other colors here: Flatware.
A few photos later in the evening, taken during the blue hour…
One taken with a single lamp on…
Love dining by candlelight, even with ants. 😉
Hope you enjoyed this little picnic on the porch. Looking forward to all the wonderful table settings linked for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!

If you are participating in Tablescape Thursday, please be sure to add your permalink below, and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on your post name, then copy and paste the address showing in the address bar, into the “url” box when you link up.
You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links.

Ha! From the title, I was expecting to read that you had set up the table, ran into the house for a few more things and when you returned, the table was awash with ants! That patriotic flatwear is so striking and it all looks like a fun time is about to be had. Happy 4th!
Ha, ha! That totally sounds like something that could happen. It’s amazing how fast ants can appear, especially when sugar is involved!
Thanks, Mia!

I couldn’t manage a picture of the cutest appetizer picks I found on Amazon. They are ants. Check them out!
Diana, sooo funny that you mention those! I found those last night on Amazon and ordered them. 🙂 I almost linked to them in today’s post. Are these the same ones you saw? https://amzn.to/3wgOe7K
That’s such a great deal…24 ants for just $9!
They are the same and I absolutely love mine!
SO fun Susan! I love the tea candles on the plates – those just make the setting! And the flatware is darling! Thanks so much for hosting, and I hope you have a lovely holiday weekend!
Thanks so much, Barbara! Hope your weekend is awesome and not too hot! Steamy here in the south right now!
Susan,
I don’t link up for Tablescape Thursday often but with the heat and humidity, I got to “Play” inside this week and put together 2 Patriotic tablescapes using 2 vinyl tablecloths that my husband picked up…Thanks for hosting as always!! Happy July 4th!!
Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Deb
So glad you joined this week, Deb! Love patriotic tables!

Me again! Forgot to mention how much I adore your Patriotic tablescape on that sweet porch of yours!! I will always remember that your blog was the very first blog that I ever saw!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Hugs,
Deb
Thanks so much! Aww, love that Deb, that means a lot! ♥
What a great 4th of July table. I especially love the photos taken during the Blue Hour — I can almost see the fireflies outside!
They were definitely out and about. I see them every night when I go out to bring in the bird feeder…love them soooo much! We used to call them lightning bugs when I was a kid. 🙂
Those ant plates made me double check the photo. I like those napkins too and the simple way to display. Thanks for the picnic on the porch.
Hee, hee! Thanks, Teresa!

Susan, I love your patriotic picnic with ants! The dinnerware is perfect for the 4th or any summer table. As always, I so appreciate that you host! Happy Independence Day weekend!
Thanks so much, Pam! Hope you have an awesome 4th! Stay cool!

Not fond of the ant plates but that being said I think this is one of the best tablescapes you have done…love red, white and blue and especially love the centerpiece! Take out the ants and you get an A+! Don’t like crawly things and I have to fight ants everytime I come back from Florida. A personal thing for sure.
Ha! Well, these ants don’t eat much, promise! Thanks, Rebecca! Hope you have an awesome 4th of July!

Thank you so much for your inspiration! I love your creative table settings. For some reason, I just wasn’t in the mood to decorate this year, Pandemic, no parade, no fireworks, smoke in the area. It really gave me the blahs. Then I clicked on your blog and laughed out loud looking at the ant plates. Next thing you know, I am in the garage looking for my 4th of July box of decorations and feeling much better. Right now the house smells of my homemade BBQ sauce and my pie crusts are chilling in the fridge to be made into a lovely apple pie. So thank you again! Happy 4th, everyone.
Aww, that’s so sweet, Anna. I know Susan will love to hear that. Happy Independence Day!
Your sweet comment made my day, Anna! I’m so glad this post added a little happiness to your day. This has been such a crazy, mixed-up year, I hope the smoke clears in your area! Homemade BBQ sauce and apple pie sound wonderful and perfect for this 4th of July weekend! I hope you have a fabulous 4th!

I LOVE this tablescape, it’s wonderfully cheerful and bright. I especially love the ant plates–which is the only way I ever want to see ants at a picnic LOL. Your Blue Hour photos are gorgeous. Thanks for another great Tablescape Thursday, and Happy Fourth of July weekend!
lol I have to agree about the ants! 🙂
Thanks so much, Elena! Happy 4th to you and your beautiful family!

OKAY…here we go AGAIN…that “Plaid Picnic Set”…was my 1962 High School Graduation gift from my “then boyfriend’s parents!!!” I still have one thermos…the rest has long ago worn out (like moi!) from constant use… Lots of pick-a-nikas!! “GO FOURTH” & DO GOOD!! franki
What a cool graduation gift! I love that! Good for you for wearing it out with all those awesome picnics. That’s the way it should be–use and enjoy to the max! Happy 4th, Franki!
So cute, all the details, including the plaid thermos tote. The ant trap lanterns on the plates in the blue hour are super cute.
lol They do look a bit like ant traps!
Happy 4th of July, Rita! I hope you have an awesome one!

Susan, no plans here. Just the two of us, but I’ll set a festive table.
Your dishes are fun. I love a patriotic theme. I almost purchased the flag flatware, but talked myself out of adding it since I have both red and blue flatware.
Happy 4th of July!
I hope you have a lovely 4th, Sarah! It will be quiet around here, but I am not complaining. I don’t mind a bit of downtime.

I love your patriotic table!!!! You are so talented! Happy 4th!
Thanks so much, Sheri!
Happy 4th of July to you!

Your table setting is just so patriotic Susan and I love it! I also love your little picnic centerpiece, I think it works great for anytime of the year. Love those ant plates, they are so cute and are perfect. Hugs, Brenda
Susan,
I prepared for this Fourth of July with ideas from your Memorial Day post. I love the knock off Pottery Barn banner made from old blue jeans. It is in our Living Room. I cut out the pockets to hold silverware. My granddaughter loved the red, white and blue drink! All really fun ideas! Thank you.
Deb, that is so awesome! I should get out my banner and hang it this year. This makes me wish once again that I lived closer to my grandson’s so I could do these things for them. Happy 4th of July!:)
Always love your tablescapes Susan! You have such a knack for putting it all together. Jane
Great tablescape Susan. Love all things patriotic! The ant plates add a bit of humor and I went to Amazon to see the ant toothpicks and they are really cute too! I can see them on your table for sure! Love the vintage thermos and carrier set, what a neat set.
P.s. Thanks for the mention of the wooden chargers being on sale! Will go to target tomorrow.
Where did you get the plates. The flag plates. There just what I need.
Thank you, Kathy
I found a set on eBay quite a few years back. Looks like there are some on there now: https://bit.ly/3nb2MDD
