A Simple Idea For Wrapping Christmas & Holiday Gifts

Wrapping presents isn’t high on my list of favorite things to do, but I sure do like how they look once they are wrapped and placed under the Christmas tree. I’ve found that watching a movie or listening to a book while I wrap makes the wrapping a lot more enjoyable.Gift Wrapping Idea, Chevy Truck with Christmas Tree on Christmas Vacation Paper

This year, I decided to go with a simple idea for the bow, something I saw in an ad on Instagram, I think for Ralph Lauren. Using a narrow red ribbon, they tied a simple red ribbon/bow around each gift. That was it, and I loved how it looked! After I took this photo to share with you, I realized that two of the packages were turned upside down. I had been so focused on taking a photo of the bows, I didn’t notice they were upside down. That was driving me crazy! lolSimple Gift Wrap Idea

So here’s one taken after I placed them under the tree. I love a big, fancy bow, but I do love the simplicity of a simple ribbon tied around a package. I thought about wrapping the ribbon in both directions like you see on a Tiffany box, but I wasn’t sure if I had enough ribbon. So I decided to stick with just wrapping it in one direction as I’d seen in the ad. The 1/2 inch red satin ribbon that I chose for wrapping my gifts is available in a bunch of colors and widths here: Red, Satin Ribbon, 1/2 inch x 50 yards.Easy Gift Wrap Idea with Ribbon

I don’t see the “Christmas Vacation” wrapping paper that I used available right now, it may have sold out, but they do have a lot of other wonderful designs here: Gift Wrapping Paper. I love this gorgeous cardinal paper!

This one is adorable!

This may be my favorite with the red barn, beautiful horses, and birds. This makes me wish I lived on a farm with horses. This design would make a great puzzle, wouldn’t it? I wonder if this exists as a puzzle somewhere, I would buy it if it did. Anyway, you’ll find all these beautiful designs (plus others) available here: Beautiful Wrapping Paper.

I have a super fun table setting planned for tomorrow. It’s pretty gray and dismal here today, so not the best for picture-taking, but hopefully, I can capture some good photos. Can’t wait to share it with you tomorrow for Tablescape Thursday!

  1. For the last few years I have been using cloth ribbon and love how beautiful it looks. I was given a huge collection of spools of ribbon. I like this simple narrow ribbon bow too. Thanks for sharing that!

  2. I wouldn’t mind having flannel sheets in the skating bear and the red barn pattern!

  3. All your wrapping papers seem to pretty to rip into Does each grandson get a particular pattern or two? Or you just mix and match as you go?

    • No, I haven’t ever done it that way, they are just labeled with labels that were designed to go with the wrapping paper itself. That would be a fast way to find the right gift though on Christmas Day.

  4. While I love the ease of gift bags, I too prefer a nice wrapped present. The wrapping paper you show is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

  5. What fun wrapping paper! Could you please remind me which coffeemaker you purchased awhile back? Thank you & Merry Christmas!

    • Merry Christmas, Cheryl! I think you’re talking about the one I purchased for my son a couple of years back. He is a big coffee fan and had been trying for years to find a coffee maker that he liked. The one I bought was the DeLonghi True Brew coffee machine and I purchased it from Williams Sonoma. They still carry it, just found it here: https://bit.ly/3LKSLum
He still loves it and uses it every morning. He rarely uses the carafe because it makes a cup of coffee so quickly, he prefers to brew each cup as he wants it so it’s always super fresh.

      • Thank you so much for the quick reply! That is the one, I’m going to get it today for my DH (an extra Christmas gift). Merry Christmas!

  6. That red and green cardinal paper is beautiful. Just gorgeous.

Susan, the wrapping paper with the red barn and horses is actually available in dishware from Certified International. I have dishes and mugs and love using them this time of year. I always tell everyone (who’ll listen) that this is exactly where I want to live. 😀 I’ve always loved a traditional red barn with white trim. And horses are such gorgeous creatures, I’d love to have them. (Even though I’m very allergic to them and had to quit taking horseback riding lessons.) 🙁

Certified International has some of the prettiest patterns, imo. But there’s a caveat. They make them out of earthenware, unfortunately, which means they are chippy. If you like a pattern enough, it’s worth babying them. Merry Christmas!

    • Oh, I remember seeing that dinnerware a few years back. It’s beautiful! Horses are truly majestic, I love them, too. Yeah, earthenware and stoneware is bad about chipping.

  7. Cute paper! We never use bows, an old habit born from having a cat that ate ribbons. So much so, that when she did it for the first time (and we had no idea she did!), she ended up in urgent kitty care and we were told that she had a wad of ribbon stuck in her gut. I’ll spare you the details…but all turned out well. We have residual trauma from that 🙂 and continued the tradition….plain, but safe, even though we have been without any kitties for some time now. I guess we just got used to the simple look!

    • Wow, I would never use them again either after experiencing that. When I had three kitties, occasionally one would chew on the edge of a bow, but thankfully they never really ate it. I can see how ribbon would be tempting for cats.

      • Funny, all 3 of our cats were chewers to some degree. The first also ate all sorts of artificial things like silk flowers, artificial Christmas trees, rubber bands…. Our second cat loved all things ‘rubber’ too….cleaning gloves had to be locked away. One time, the doctor gave me a latex glove filled with ice from a painful IV site, and when I got home, I absent mindedly set it on the counter to do something else. Next thing I knew, Nick had it in his mouth and proceeded to drag it around the house while I chased him and yelled. I am sure that looked as wacky as it felt. He had the glove by the thumb and just tore around and under furniture. Our 3rd cat always had to wear the cone of shame when she had any kind of procedure because she would eat the bandages. Not just chew, but eat! Still, we miss every single one of those little trouble makers. 🙂 And, I save money on ribbons to this day! LOL

Answer to: This design would make a great puzzle, wouldn’t it?
From Current Catalog. The red barn with horses and snow. Yes, I bought it for my granddaughter and a friend 2 yrs. ago online. They had note cards, wrapping paper and a vinyl tote/gift bag that I bought to put those gifts in. It was Adorable!
Merry Christmas & God Bless, Terri N.

  9. What pretty gift wrap. Have you ever used a different gift wrap for each person and only you know who they are for? I love the fancy foils and I make my own bows. Not a fan of the gift bag. However shipping presents prevents all of that.
The grandsons must really enjoy Chrismas at grandma’s this year.

    • No, I’ve never used separate paper for each person, but that would simply finding the gifts under the tree. Although I kinda like the treasure hunt on Christmas morning. 🙂 Thanks, Myrna! I’m really looking forward to it!

  10. One year I used green twine (either with kraft paper or prints) and loved how simple it looked, plus the “bows” don’t get crushed! Also, when you use “real” ribbon there is something elegant (ivory ribbon especially) as well as simple when you tie the bow. I love all the wrapping paper you are showing, especially the horses because I used to have horses since I was 16! Someone mentioned having flannel sheets in one of the patterns and at first I thought PJ’s…both would look good in the prints! lol

  11. Susan,
Thanks for again featuring some great Currant designs. If nothing has changed we can expect the same heavy quality paper as in the auto/tucks/ campers you again featured this year. I’m delighted that you are pleased with the simple bow but absolutely nothing is as elegant as a huge fluffy bow atop any package of size. I’ll vote for a double-sided satin ribbon wrap and bow on a smallish gift for a female of any age, but the majority of those packages under my tree will sport a bow of significant size regardless of the additional cost and time to create.

  12. I love all your wrapping paper ideas that were shown and particularly the thin ribbon. I cannot do it this year but will definitely do it next year. Hubs in the hospital now and will not be out until after Christmas and I’ve already got some of the grands presents wrapped.

    Susan,
I love the wrapping paper you used. I agree that one with the barn, etc would make a great puzzle. I know you can get photos made into a puzzle and wonder if a company could also do it with that wrapping paper scene. You always share many great ideas. Thanks! Teresa P.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
