Welcome to the 761st Metamorphosis Monday! I have two quick updates to share for this week’s Met Monday. I finally have a working microwave again. The Home Depot installation went great and was handled professionally–they even arrived during the time frame of the appointment. Also, the microwave actually works! So happy to have this completed after two previously failed attempts from another business.
The other item(s) I wanted to share are the covers I purchased to cover/protect my washing machine and dryer. When I’m cleaning birdfeeders in the sink to the left of the washer, occasionally I’ll place something on the washing machine without even realizing that I’m doing it. I purchased these covers to protect the top of the washer from scratches since I hope to have this washing machine for many, many years. The protective covers just arrived today so they haven’t had time to flatten down completely. They should do that over the next few days.
These covers are fairly thick mats with sort of a rubberized bottom so they won’t slide. They can be cut down to whatever size you need. In the photo below, I had already cut the one that’s on the washing machine, but I hadn’t yet cut the one I placed atop the dryer. I may wait to cut that one until I replace the dryer with a matching Speed Queen dryer since I’m not exactly sure what size it will need to be. These should really be helpful, especially since I like storing the peanuts and dried mealworms I put out for the birds (in containers I shared a few weeks ago) atop the dryer. The laundry room is where I keep all the birdseed. If you could use covers to protect your washer or dryer, these are available here: Washer-Dryer Covers. (Birdseed storage container is available here: BirdSeed Storage Container.)
Looking forward to all the great Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday!

Metamorphosis Monday: Metamorphosis Monday is a party that’s all about Before and Afters. Please link up your Before and After projects like DIY projects, room makeovers, craft projects even recipes. Please do not link up Table Settings, save those for our Tablescape Thursday party on Thursday. If you are participating in Met Monday, you’ll need to link your post to the party using the “permalink” to your MM post and not your general blog address. To get your permalink, click on the name of your post, then copy and paste the address that shows in the address bar at the top of your blog, into the “url” box for InLinkz when prompted. NOTE: Please do not link up more than 3 posts from your blog. In order to link up, you’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party so your readers can find the other party participants. When linking up to the party, give the InLinkz system time to find the link in your post to avoid having your link held for moderation/approval. Thanks!

Thank you Susan, glad you finally got your microwave!
Thanks, Jenna–that was the unending quest there for a while. Glad it’s done!
Susan, I’m so happy you had a good experience with the microwave install. Doesn’t it seem to make everything better when it goes smoothly? (haha) We need to have our hot water heater replaced & local plumber is coming out on Thursday. I’m praying that all goes smoothly here!
Hope all goes great, Sharon! I know you’ll be happy when it’s all done. When I replaced my hot water heater last year, it all went great so I bet you’ll have the same experience.
You read my mind, Susan. I need these mats for my washer dryer.
Can you link to the plastic tub things that hold the birdseed. We had pantry moths show up and realized they were laying eggs in our birdseed. So I need something that closes well. Thank you! — Wendy in Suwanee
Sure! These are the ones I use here and at my son’s home: https://amzn.to/3ElZeqx
I have the 8 quart size and they do work great for bird seed.
The way I store the seed at my son’s home is I have a larger, floor-standing container (purchased at Wild Birds Unlimted) that I dump the 20 lb bag of bird seed into, then using this large scoop: https://amzn.to/3QYK4iH , I fill up the 8-quart container (since it has a nice pour spout) to take out for filling the feeders. Since it holds 8 quarts, I can fill up the feeders quite a few times before I need to refill the container.
Your new microwave is gorgeous! Perfectly matches your cabinets. Thanks so much for having us over, Susan. Have a super week!
Thanks, Debra! Hope your week is amazing!
So happy to hear the microwave install went smoothly Susan, it looks so beautiful! I didn’t even know there were washer and dryer protective covers. What a great idea! Hugs, Brenda
It must feel so good to have the microwave adventure checked off the list. We always had the best delivery/setup service with Sears. Good to know that Home Depot is a good candidate for in the future.
Looks great – glad you finally got it installed. Great idea to protect your washer – I used to have an ironing pad that fit on top. Great for touch up ironing. Now I have front loaders ( love/hate them)!
So glad your microwave install finally went right! It looks great, too! And how fun to find the covers for your washer and dryer. I could see how you could use those in other situations too – a nice big non-skid pad would come in really handy. Thanks for sharing your great finds, and thanks for hosting the party! Hope you have a lovely week!
Hi Susan,
Two quick questions. Is your new microwave white or almond? Believe we have the same stove but I have two ovens. How old is yours and is it still working well?
thanks,
Jean
It’s white. The stove is a Maytag that has two ovens. It’s pretty old now, around 20 years old, and it still works great. I really like it because the top oven will hold large casserole dishes, pizza, cookie sheet, pretty much things that we want to bake/cook on a daily basis. The larger oven is full size and will hold a big turkey or multiple dishes since it has multiple racks. I always wanted a double oven but didn’t have the room for one. If/when this one croaks, I’d buy the same one again if they still make it. The top oven, since it’s the same width but less tall, heats up really quickly when I want to make a pizza, bake cookies or heat up a big casserole, etc… It’s similar to this one, only mine is white since I have white appliances in my kitchen: https://bit.ly/3PiEneo
Jean, I just went downstairs and looked at the name on the front and it’s the “Maytag Gemini.” This is what is supposed to be comparable to what I have now: https://www.maytag.com/blog/kitchen/maytag-gemini-range-updates.html
Oh, and just have to add, the top oven makes great toast, too! The top oven is the full width of an oven, just less tall/high, so it works for 99% of the stuff we cook on a daily basis. I love how the top oven heats up so quickly–so much better than heating up a huge oven to just bake cookies or a pizza.
Susan,
It looks great!!
Thanks so much for hosting this lovely party each and every week!! Thank You!! I hope you are having a great week!!
Hugs,
Deb
I never even knew there were such things as washer and dryer covers, lol. The things you find! You amaze me with your research skills. You keep posting about things I didn’t even know I needed, but they are so useful!
