Celebrating Autumn With A Woodsy, Country Lodge Style Table Setting

Welcome to the 834th Tablesape Thursday! With the kitchen finally back together after the recent leak behind the fridge, I was excited to set a table this week for Tablescape Thursday. Ignore the half-covered swing chain in the background. When the house/exterior was painted a few weeks back, I removed the swing chain covers. I had just started putting them back on when all the kitchen work started and I needed my ladder, which was down in the basement. I finally got a chance to bring it up, but never finished adding the covers back. I need to finish those up today.

Just before the recent kitchen debacle, I had purchased fluffy green pillows for the breakfast chairs. I should have done that many years ago since these chairs are quite deep and not too comfy when leaning back. The pillows have been a huge improvement! Their true color isn’t really coming through in the photos, they are a pretty sage green. (Pillow Covers are available here: Pillow Covers.) I purchased the covers, then added down inserts.

Initially, I kept the centerpiece super simple with a vintage Baldwin Brass lantern. I still love shiny brass and always will. (Leaf glasses are from Dollar Tree many years ago. Wine glasses are from A Classy Flea which has sadly closed now.)

The lidded pumpkin soup tureens are from Pier 1, many years ago. They need to come back and reopen!

The twig flatware is from West Elm, another long-ago find. I have it in silverplate, as well. I need to bring it out and use it this winter. I don’t recall where I found the leaf napkin rings now—have had them too long to remember.

The salad plates are by David Carter Brown and the design is called Country Lodge. There are four different designs in the Country Lodge set, but two have a lot of gray color in the design, so those didn’t work well with the colors I wanted for this table. So I ended up just using two of the four designs. I have two sets so that worked well for this table setting. (Update: Just checked and there appears to be a set of the Country Lodge salad/desset plates available on eBay here: Country Lodge Salad Plates.)

The dinner plates are part of a set that includes salad plates, too. The pattern is Asheville, another find in Pier 1 back in the day. The bark-edged chargers are from Target. They have very similar ones still available here: Bark-edged Chargers.

This is the other David Carter Brown salad plate design from the Country Lodge pattern that I am using for this autumn table setting.

I’m pretty sure I found the Country Lodge salad plates on eBay, it’s been quite a few years back. Love this moose plate! Love this pattern!

I have no idea now, where I found the napkins. If I had to guess, it was probably in HomeGoods or Marshalls. I always cut off all the tags on my napkins, even the ones that indicate the brand unless the tag is very small and discreet. It’s no fun to press a cloth napkin against your mouth and feel a rough tag scape your lips or hand. The solid-colored rust/burgundy-colored napkin underneath has a single, beautifully embroidered leaf along the edge. I tried to keep it visible as I slid the leaf napkin rings into place. Hard to see in the photo below, but the gold design on the outer napkin is slightly metallic and sparkly, so it works well with the Baldwin lantern in our centerpiece.

I like to experiment a bit with my centerpiece, so I added a few books under the lantern.

Chilly weather always makes me want to curl up with a good book.

Birds-eye view, before the books were added…

I turned off all the lights to try for a bit of candlelight.

When I awoke this morning, I took a few more photos while it was still dark out. Funny how the flame of the candle looks like a big light bulb in this photo! Ha!

One more candlelight picture from this morning, this time with the shutters closed.

It’s still very green here, just a few colorful leaves on the decks when I go outside to fill the feeders. Are you seeing any fall color in your area, yet?

Looking forward to the beautiful table settings linked for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. Please, don’t add your post name/blog name ALL IN CAPS…it tends to create big spaces between the rows of links. Please do not link up table settings that were just recently shared in the last few weeks for Tablescape Thursday.

  1. I thought it to be a nice and colorful table, until the last photos with the books and candlelight. That really upped the cozy, warm seasonal vibe! I especially miss Pier 1 during the holiday seasons: the colors, designs, scents etc.

I love the dinnerware! Outstanding! Your table looks fantastic!

  3. Well, didn’t you just change my dismal, foggy weather mood, to looking forward to autumn’s splendor! Who knew a virtual glimpse of a fall tablescape had such magical power? Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. Susan, when you mentioned A Classy Flea closed I couldn’t help but think, “Yeah, everything good is closing.” Hate to be the voice of doom and gloom (Ha!) but soooo many stores in my town that I shopped at previously are now long gone. It’s sad. And I miss them. We even had a HomeGoods and they closed our wonderful location so as to open one in a larger city an hour away. Talk about piling on! I was in our store location when I heard the news they would be leaving and I had the urge to drop to the floor and throw a fit! Years later now and I’m still bitter. LOL!

    • I know, it definitely seems that way. I hope things turn around and some of these stores we loved shopping in make a return. I’m still sad about A Classy Flea and Pier 1, so I know what you mean.

  5. The moose plate! ❤️ I like the whole vibe! So pretty and cabin like! The wicker set adds nice texture.

    Hi Susan
Just enjoyed your Country Lodge table. It is just beautiful and the centerpiece made me smile. The same Baldwin brass lantern sits atop a desk in my Parent’s family room. I never thought to use it as a centerpiece, so thanks for the inspiration! I, too am a big fan of polished brass. I was married in 1986 and got lots of candlesticks as shower and wedding gifts. I’ve been enjoying them ever since.
    Fondly

    • Thanks so much, Terri! Quality brass like Baldwin and Virginia Metalcrafters are truly beautiful classics, treasured heirlooms. I’m so glad you are still enjoying yours, too. ♥

Hi Susan! I have a question. When you use the double napkin approach in your table setting, what do guests do with the second napkin? Is that just for show and you remove one before guests are seated? I have been wondering this for years! I love your table settings!

    • Thanks so much, Melanie! Normally they just lay both across their lap. They could use either one but often the one on top is of a material that wouldn’t work well as a napkin, like when I use organza covers, or something like that. So normally guests/family do use the one underneath since the top one is often more decorative. Hope that helps explain a bit. I just love the fullness of using two napkins and the fun of choosing coordinating patterns that go well together. 🙂

  8. Susan, I love your fall/lodge tablescape! Your photography is always so beautiful too. I love the candlelight photos, and having the door open to the porch is so inviting. I have not yet tried two cloth patterned napkins together, but I love the look of the ones you chose!! Thanks also for hosting your Tablescape Thursday Link party each week! Have a great week! – Patty

  9. I absolutely love your table! I have all my fall decorating done but I’m waiting for my new turkey napkin rings to arrive before posting. Love the brass candle and the books. So homey!! It’s 101 degrees here in Kansas today. But some leaves are turning. Lol!

  11. Susan, I enjoyed your table. I noticed the twig flatware immediately. I’ve long regretted that I didn’t add this years ago when a friends in Dallas called from Pier I saying it was on sale, she was buying for herself, and did I want a set. I must have been in one of my “resisting buying more things for the table” mood. It happens, especially after the first of he year. Lucky you to have it in silver as well. Enjoy the autumn season. When do you move?

Just lovely…I’m ready for Squash Soup…in a personal pumpkin tureen…franki

  13. Love the lantern hurricane ! Never seen one of these from Baldwin! I need to be on the hunt for one. Lovely tablescape!

  14. Bobbi Duncan says

What a beautiful and very cozy tablescape! I love the happy feelings that autumn evokes & your table setting just adds to that. The twig flatware could not be more perfect. I, too, am sad Pier 1 closed; there are several items I now so regret not having purchased when I had the chance. I have the same Baldwin hurricane–purchased in 1983–and still love it just as much today. Baldwin & Virginia Metalcrafters are among the wonderful manufacturers I wish were still producing. On a side note, all the improvements you’ve already made at the Dollhouse just amazes me. I just adore that cottage! Hugs.

  15. Susan, your table is absolutely delightful and so perfect to welcome fall! Love the DCB lodge plates on the Asheville plates and the wooden charger slices are gorgeous. The Baldwin brass lantern is beautiful as a centerpiece and the leaf napkins are lovely. The DT wine glasses were a fabulous find. We definitely have fall temps here but the leaves are slow to change – at least in the city. Might have to drive out to the country to see better. Happy rest of the week to you!

  16. Such a lovely and welcoming tablescape! I love everything about it….the woodsy feel, the stack of books under the centerpiece ties everything together and adds to the warmth. Beautiful…I love it! Seeing just a FEW change of color on trees here in S. California.

  17. Not sure I will ever NOT like shiny brass either. Loved those cozy fall table. Soon I hope the weather is actually fall all day long! Have a good weekend.

  18. Hi Susan! You received a great shout-out and credit on the YouTube channel of Tomas Rosales. He did a video re Kathleen Kelly’s You’ve Got Mail apartment and bookstore. You show up around the 3 minute mark.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
