Charming Spring Table With Villeroy & Boch “Basket” & Precious Fitz & Floyd Bunnies

Welcome to the 865th Tablescape Thursday! I have been so blessed this spring by all the wonderful table settings Elena, Sheri, and Brenda have shared. Their timing has been perfect! On my last trip up to the Dollhouse, my  SUV was packed to the gills with lamps, large potted plants, spring clothes, and other things that I could not leave behind since I knew I wouldn’t be returning for a while. I left behind so many things that I wanted to bring up, including a lot of my spring dishes and centerpieces. Soon, I will need to return to Georgia to clean away the pollen I know has to be knee-deep by now on the screen porch. The “pollening” as some people refer to it these days (Ha!) had just started when I left to come up, so I can’t even imagine what it looks like now! I did bring the cushions in before I left. I wish I had thought to cover the furniture.

Elena set a wonderful table for spring/Easter this year, and Oh, does it have me craving Fitz and Floyd bunnies! If you’ve been reading BNOTP for a bit,  you know I have a soft spot for collecting bunny pieces.Beautiful Vintage Tablecloth for Spring and Easter

About her beautiful spring table, Elena said, “The cloth is vintage from a 1970s trip to the Caribbean. I remember helping my mother pick out these linens at an outdoor market. As they are cotton, they are not as difficult to launder as my antique linen cloths. The tablecloth is actually two rectangular cloths overlapped. And this is with only one leaf in the table!” Beautiful Spring Table Setting, Perfect for Easter

Such beautiful linens, and I love the story of how Elena’s mom came to find them. Elena found her Fitz and Floyd bunnies in TJ Maxx several years back.Fitz & Floyd Bunnies in a Spring Tablescape

I wonder if TJ Maxx still stocks Fitz and Floyd pieces. Does anyone know? I hope Fitz and Floyd is still in business, I’ve always loved their whimsical collections. These bunnies are sooo adorable!Fitz & Floyd Bunnies, Adorable

Elena said, “The black and white check pieces are an eBay find and are Romy and Claire by Fenton.” I love the green color of the interior, so pretty with the eggs!Black, White Check, Romy and Clair, Fenton

Elena chose her Villeroy & Boch “Basket” dinner plats for this table setting, pairing them with adorable Peter Rabbit salad plates. Elena said, ” The Villeroy and Boch, Mikasa chargers, and Peter Rabbit salad plates I have shared before, but I found the napkin rings on eBay, and I love the way they look placed on the plate next to Peter!!!” I love that, too—it’s like he glancing back at the pretty flowers, contemplating if they are edible for his afternoon snack. lolVilleroy Basket Dinner Plate, paired with Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit Salad Plate

While setting this table, Elena ran into an issue that I’ve run into before—charger plates that are deeply recessed, causing the dinner plate to wobble a bit. She employed a clever hack to solve that problem. Elena said, “I shared a photo of how I dealt with teetering dinner plates. Both of my Mikasa and Enchanted Home chargers have deep centers and do not support dinner plates well. I have often used doilies to keep dishes from rattling, but they were not enough this time. In an homage to Sheri, I went to the dollar store and picked up eight pot holders. They worked out GREAT and I think actually eating on the dinner plates will work out well, we’ll see on Sunday!”Sneaky way to secure wobbly dinner plate on a deep charger

  1. I’m telling you Dollar Tree is the best! I think it takes me back to the Dime stores of my childhood. I love this table! Great job!

    • Oh My Gosh!!! My mother loved “the five and dime” store!!!! I remember buying paper dolls there!!! When she came up to Saratoga back in the 80’s we still had a Woolworth’s and she ALWAYS had to go there. I think it was one of the last ones still open. GREAT memories!

      • I loved, loved, loved Woolworth’s. If it wasn’t shopping, it was eating. I loved sitting at the counter and having a hamburger (they had great hamburgers, as I recall.) And the waitresses wore uniforms with those short sleeves that had starched white cuffs. Great stuff.

        • Patty Brenner says

My first job out of high school was as a waitress in the Luncheonette at Woolworths 🙂 My mom had to help me with the uniform because they had to be starched and ironed every day, lol. We also had the best fried chicken around! I also loved our mile high icebox cheesecake. Oh, what wonderful memories!

I love Fitz & Floyd pieces but can’t afford them brand new. I’ve picked up several from thrift shops and estate sales and love them! I haven’t seen bunnies there yet, but will be keeping my eyes open – the bunnies are wonderful!

This is such a pretty table <3 Thank you Elena for sharing it with us!!

          • Wow, that’s when people really took pride in how they dressed each day for work. Love that memory, Patty!

          • Aww, Patty, sounds like it was a great experience for you. Thanks for sharing that. I wish Woolworth’s was still in business. It was such a fun store and they really did have great tasting food.

  2. Franceil Parde says

LOVELY!! My one piece Fitz is the sweetest bunny & is in the master bathroom…well visited…
Tablescapes are my downfall…I just love them…found $2.99 (beautiful) pink flower broochs on AMAZON tied all ten on pink napkins w/pale green velvet ribbon…hmmm…may “wear” several…hmmm. franki

    • That is a GREAT idea!!!! I have some 80’s brooches I wanted to use that way but I didn’t want to put holes in my napkins, I will have to try ribbon!!!!!

  3. Fitz and Floyd at TJ Maxx?!! What? I love traditional Fitz and Floyd pieces. They are gorgeous, as are Elena’s pictured here. They design and create the cutest pieces. Always so detailed and colorful.

It’s a lovely tablescape, Elena. And your newly acquired napkin rings blend so well with the other pieces. So what’s the verdict – did the potholder hack solve the rock’ and roll problem? (clever idea.) Thanks for sharing another tablescape with pieces from your vast collection of goodies. Always fun to see.

    • Thank You SO much Pam!!! YES, I used to get Fitz and Floyd at TJ Maxx but have not seen them there for years. They do not get as much high end items as they used to! And YES, the pot holders worked perfectly!!

      • Glad to hear that fixed the dilemma. It’s an odd one, really. That a company would manufacture charger plates that made the dinner plate awkward to place. I’m glad it worked though. Thanks for answering. (I still hope you’ll invite all of us over one day, lol.)

  4. So pretty!!

  5. Such a sweet table – I love that tablecloth! And like Pam, I’m also curious how the potholders worked. Thanks to both of you for sharing, and you for hosting, as always of course!

  6. Just a beautiful, charming, whimsical and lovely table! I love Fitz and Floyd things too! Such a pretty table to sit down too and I love all the spring colors. Thank you for sharing.

  7. Elena, we all have Fritz and Floyd envy now. So many lovely pieces. The tablecloth came from the Caribbean brought back memories. On my first trip, I found a shop that sold all linens. Many years later, she was still there. When we went to Jamaica, one of our jaunts was to an outdoor market with linens. My friend Doris thought the lady was putting too much pressure on her, so she explained “browsing” to her. She became outraged and followed us back to the bus cursing. I said “Doris, I think she put a curse on you” LOL. Great idea on the pretty potholders. Sometimes in DT, they let me have the flimsy foam sheets that separate the plates in the box or a circle of Styrofoam for other craft projects.
Susan, one week should be “Show us where you keep your stash of tableware and collectibles”

  8. Beautiful Table Setting. Love the bunnies.

  9. I am definitely checking out Fitz and Floyd after seeing these adorable bunnies. I’ve got my eye on the butter dish too!

    • I also have a collection of Corner Ruby bunnies that are great for Easter…….I still see some of those at Home Goods.

  10. Christy Keyton says

Fitz and Floyd is definitely still in business- I carry some of it in my shop. I bought their white bunnies for Easter this year. Beautiful table setting!

    • OH MY!!!! I would be buying more than I was selling, LOL!!!! I LOVE Fitz and Floyd quality and detail is wonderful!

  11. Everything is just beautiful but I especially love that tablecloth!

    • Thank You Anita! Unfortunately there are some minute holes starting here and there…………..not noticeable as of yet so I will keep using them!!!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
