10+ Absolute Favorites for Summer—Can’t Do Without These!

The temps in Ohio haven’t exactly been consistent, but we are definitely seeing a lot more warmer days than chilly ones now. Some days have been so warm, I finally had to run the A/C here in my office. So I’ve been bringing out alllll the summer things, including my favorite fan.

When I purchased this fan last summer for the office, I liked it so much that I bought a second one for my bedroom. I love having a fan running at night, the white noise lulls me right to sleep. I also like that this fan came with a remote, so if I’m in bed and realize I forgot to turn it on, I don’t have to get back up. This fan is very powerful, it will shut the door to my bedroom at night if I don’t have a doorstop in place. Ha! Once, when I had an electrician here working, he asked if it was cooling the air. It moves a lot of air, so it often feels like it’s actually cooling the air, even though it’s just a fan. Almost every spring, I add a new pair of Ecco sandals to my summer wardrobe. I practically live in these all summer long. They are so comfortable and supportive, sometimes I’ll even wear them inside in the wintertime with socks.

They must be hugely popular since Ecco brings them back in new colors every summer. The most popular colors tend to sell out quickly. I’ve been wearing hats during the summertime for several years, since I try to avoid getting sun directly on my face. Now that I have white hair, it’s more important than ever since a hot sun beating down on white hair can turn it yellow…almost a cartoon yellow. So I’ll be doubling down on hat-wearing this summer!

Another favorite of mine for summer is wicker bags. Nothing says summer in the south like wearing a wicker bag! I don’t think this round one is still available. Seems like I purchased it from J. McLaughlin, if I’m remembering correctly.

Another staple in my summer wardrobe is a few linen tops. They are the closest thing I’ve found to wearing nothing in hot, humid weather because they let the breezes flow right through. There’s a reason linen is so popular for summer! I especially love long-sleeve linen shirts since the sleeves can be rolled down when out in full sun, or rolled up when in the shade. It actually feels cooler having them down when I’m in full sun since it keeps the burning sun off my skin. Linen clothes do require a quick ironing after being washed, but for the style, comfort, and coolness they give, they are very much worth it.

I discovered this sweater a few summers ago, and now I have three in my summer wardrobe. I keep one in my car full-time since I’m always cold in restaurants. It looks great paired with all my summer outfits and washes really well. You’ll find it available here: Sweater.

If you’ve been reading BNOTP for a while, you know I love my Yetis! I use them constantly all throughout the year. I have them in multiple colors and love changing them out. I carry the smaller one with me on car trips, like the drives I make between Georgia and Ohio, and they keep my drink nice and cold. My son and I both love their large wheeled cooler since the wheels make it so easy to move around. My son has it in this classic blue color that’s a staple for Yeti.
