A Woodland Nature-Themed Table for Christmas

Welcome to the 586th Tablescape Thursday!

Merry Christmas! We’re in the breakfast room for this week’s Tablescape Thursday!

Christmas Tablescape, 2019

Such a gorgeous day out with lots of sunshine coming in through the windows.

Christmas Table with Magnolia Centerpiece, Pheasant Vase

I’m still crazy-in-love with the pheasant I picked up a few weeks just before Thanksgiving. I love that he’s not a soup tureen, but instead, a vase that can be used to create a beautiful centerpiece any time of the year. (Mr. Pheasant is on sale here: Pheasant.)

For today’s table, I filled him with a simple arrangement of fresh magnolia. I added a small berry wreath around his neck for a festive Christmas touch. The berries on the wreath tie back to another one of the elements in this table, a recent addition to my charger collection.

For today’s table, I layered tartan napkins over fluffy eyelet edged napkins. The eyelet napkins are from Pier 1 many years ago. I think the tartan ones are from HomeGoods, also many years ago.

I’m using one of my favorite flatware patterns for today’s Christmas table, a flatware I use often throughout the year. The red works beautifully in so many settings, but it’s especially nice for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and all the patriotic holidays. (Flatware is available here: Red Flatware.)

Christmas Table Setting, Between Naps On The Porch blog

The stemware is Festive Holly by Gorham, found in Marshalls many years ago. I’ve used it several times in Christmas settings over the years, including this 12 Days of Christmas table setting here: Twelve Days of Christmas.

Better Homes and Gardens Christmas China, Tartan Chargers

I brought out four different patterns of my Better Homes and Gardens Christmas dinnerware for this week’s table. I love mixing the different scenes in a table setting!

Christmas Dinnerware with Tartan Chargers and Woodland Chargers

Love these tartan dinner plates! I use them a lot in the fall and winter, as well as the tartan chargers from this pattern. You’ll find both the tartan chargers and the tartan dinner plates on sale here: Tartan Dishware.

Tartan Charger for Christmas Table Setting

The tartan dinner plates work so beautifully with these gorgeous woodland chargers I picked up this year while doing a bit of Christmas shopping.

Woodland Berry Charger Plate for Christmas Table Setting

I’m obsessed with this beautiful berry and pinecone design! Sooo pretty and so perfect for wintertime! I hope to use these all winter so you’ll probably see these again this winter. You’ll find them currently on sale here: Pinecone Berry Charger.

Pinecone napkin rings worked great in this setting alongside the berry and pinecone charger plates.

I used four different salad plate patterns for this Christmas tablescape. Love this one depicting a woody car bringing home the family Christmas tree.

I love how Better Homes and Gardens introduces a few new patterns in their Heritage dinnerware line for Christmas each year!

Another cute one!

Tartan Chargers, Christmas Plates

How do they keep thinking up all these wonderful patterns? I hope they never stop! I love how the light was streaming in from the windows and lighting up part of this place setting when I took this photo. 🙂 It’s the little things, ya know?!

Christmas Charger, Christmas China

This was the 4th pattern I used in this setting–a sweet bunny sitting alongside a snowy tree.

Christmas China, Woodland Scene with Rabbit

I loved this pattern so much…

Bunny & Christmas Tree, Christmas Plates

…I ended up using just the bunny plates in a Christmas table setting several years ago. (See more of this table here: Christmas Table Inspired by Nature.)

As it began to get dark, I lit the Christmas tree here in the breakfast room…

…along with the smaller one out on the porch. You can just see it past the magnolia leaves.

Candlelit Christmas Table Setting, 2019

A Christmas dinner by candlelight would be lovely, wouldn’t it?

  1. Such a pretty table! Your new chargers look lovely with the tartan plates and our favorite salad plates. I’m still looking for the train plate, so far our local WalMart hasn’t had any. 🙁 I may yet resort to paying the exorbitant eBay prices but I haven’t, so far. I hoped to order them from WM online but it says “in store only” under the picture of the train plate. Oh, well, I’m enjoying the ones I have from prior years.

    • Joy, I’m sorry you haven’t been able to find them this year. Last night I drove over to the Walmart near me and purchased a bunch of this pattern for my daughter-in-law. I have so many salad plates from years past and I’m going to take some of those to her since I’ve continued to collect additional salad plates every year. Not sure where you live, but I would check around to any Walmarts in your area because mine still had some of the train plates left, although some of the other patterns were all gone.

  2. I love those glasses and those chargers are wonderful!

  3. Love those chargers you bought this year and, of course the BHG salads. Magnolia is such a classic, it’s like the pearls of greenery! Lovely table.

  4. I purchased another set this year, after seeing them on your blog. I was disappointed in the color of red. It is like a pink tone when placed next to the original dishes and accessories of this set. Wondering if anyone else noticed, or did I just get an off set?

  5. Thank you so much for hosting. I am excited to share my Christmas vignettes, table and wreath ideas. Happy Holidays!

  6. Such a lovely table Susan – perfect with Mr Pheasant and plaid! I was just thinking that they must have someone at better Homes & Gardens whose only job is to think up Christmas plate patterns, when you mentioned it! 🙂 I hope they continue too – they’re so much fun! Thanks as always for the beautiful inspiration, and Happy Holidays!

    • Thanks so much, Barbara! I often wonder about that, what a fun job that would be! Hope they don’t run out of ideas anytime soon. 🙂
      Merry Christmas to you!

  7. Susan,
I can’t open your linked pictures that appear under your text(related posts to enjoy) I used to be able to just click on them but not anymore.

    • Umm, I just tried one and it worked okay for me. Kathie, try rebooting your computer and clearing the cache and see if that works. Are you using a laptop or iPad? I just checked on my desktop and it worked okay. Let me know if rebooting and clearing your cache helps.

  8. OMG, Susan! I absolutely love every aspect of this table setting. All the elements go together so beautifully. What a cozy, lovely space for Christmas. I’m drooling over your new chargers. But, with daughters, sons-in-law and grandkids, I have to set a 2o person table and new chargers are just not in the budget. Phooey!! Your partridge looks so proud and festive. It’s all just PERFECT!! Have a wonderful Christmas. I can sense your excitement in your posts about seeing you family again!! Enjoy!

    • Thanks so much, Rosie! That means a lot coming from you! Wow, sounds like you will have a wonderful group for Christmas! Love that! There’s nothing better than having all your family around you for the holidays! Merry Christmas to you and your family, Rosie!

  9. So pretty. Love the new plates.

  10. How lovely everything is,the plates are gorgeous. I love the plaid napkins, too.
    A BLESSED AND MERRY CHRISTMAS

  12. Franki Parde says

Your table is just…perfection!! How I do luv pheasants…guess that is still the “midwest” in me. I use pheasant feathers in so many places. Your tablescape is so welcoming!! KUDOS!! franki

    • Thanks, Franki! I love them, too…not sure why. I think I just love anything that’s animal/outdoor related. Pheasants are so beautiful, I don’t know how hunters can ever shoot one. I know I couldn’t. Merry Christmas!

  13. Lily Sevilla says

I love every detail of that beautiful table, I would like to know, where did you find the red cutlery? They’re lovely!
    Best regards,

    Lily

  14. Brenda Lawrence says

What a stunning table setting Susan! It has to be my favorite for Christmas/winter. Loving the dishes and the chargers. Everything is my favorite style for the Christmas/winter season. Merry Christmas Susan and have a happy, healthy New Year!! Hugs, Brenda

  15. Susan, once again not getting your posts. Last one I received was 12/2. Sally

  16. Oh, I just adore this tablescape, Susan! The woodland plates and the red plaids look so good together.

Thank you for hosting the party! It is so much fun to join in the fun this time around – shared my afternoon Christmas tea party I had recently. : – )

    Happy Advent. Hugs.
