One more goody has arrived for the movie room that I’ve been working on for the past couple of weeks.
The popcorn machine arrived, and it’s so dang cute! It was a bit more challenging to put together than some of the items I’ve assembled over the years, but that was mostly due to the teeny, tiny images in the instruction booklet. I am super nearsighted, so I always take off my glasses to thread a needle or to read tiny writing on the back of packages or medicine bottles. Even my nearsightedness didn’t help with the photos in the instructions! The way I overcame that was by taking a photo of each diagram with my cell phone, then zooming in to see the tiny details. That helped tremendously!
If you buy one of these for your playroom or movie room, I very much recommend having a second set of hands around to help when you need something held up or held in place during the building. I used books, pillows, my knee—you name it, as I assembled it. It came out great; however, if you’re not used to putting furniture and other “stuff” together, you may need some help from time to time during the assembly process. So, here’s how the popcorn popper machine looks with its top light off.
And here’s how it looks with the light up top, on. I haven’t made popcorn in it yet, but I will definitely do that soon. I love the little shelf on the left side.
One of the reasons I chose this particular floor-standing popcorn machine over the others I saw online was this cute “Concessions” storage. I was impressed with its design as I installed it into the lower section of the machine. It’s designed with tiered shelves, which makes it look like a real candy display. It even has little strip lighting along the edge of each shelf to light up the contents. Love that! When I went grocery shopping a few days ago, I loaded up on full-size boxes of candy with this in mind. The machine hadn’t yet arrived at that point.
Here’s how it looks with the glass “Concessions” door open. My reward for the hours spent putting this popcorn machine together was getting to load in the candy at the end! Ha! It was so much fun arranging the candy and thinking about my grandsons’ reactions when they see it for the first time on our next movie night. In the future, it will most likely be filled with healthy snacks like nuts or granola bars, but for the first time they see it, I couldn’t resist filling it with real candy like you’d find at the theater. Life is short, ya gotta live a little! (Popcorn Machine/Popper is available here: Popcorn Machine.)
I ordered this sign to go on the wall above the popcorn machine. 🙂 Does anyone remember seeing this at the movies when they were growing up? (Treat sign is available here: Sign for Movie Room.)
The baskets arrived for the console, and they look great, but one arrived badly warped and dented. The replacement basket should arrive today. The special art I’m having made to go over the mantle should arrive in a few days. I’m looking forward to sharing more of this room once those items are here. Oh, and I have something fun in mind for the shelving down here…more on that real soon! It’s happening!
Me…I remember that sign! Or maybe I remember a quick little cartoon with those characters? This room is coming together so nicely. Well done, you.
Yes! I remember them dancing across the screen. 🙂 Thanks, Mia!
This room is going to be so much fun for your family!! I’m already wondering how you will decorate for all the different holidays.
Oh, that would be fun to do down here! Thanks, Barbara!
Grandma does it again !
I am sure that more than one place has them but one time I bought plastic popcorn bags and scoops for a gift basket at Dollar Tree.
Remember, I win the lottery, never touching a screwdriver again !
I actually have some of those and couldn’t find them, even though I thought I had brought them up from Georgia. Well, I finally opened the right cabinet and found them again.
lol Yes! I know what you mean. This one was a bit of a challenge, just getting it out of the box was difficult. I wish they had included instructions on how to unpack it.
The healthy snacks won’t be as cool as the old fashion candies but if you open the boxes carefully you could place small packs of healthy items inside the empty boxes and keep the ambience. If there’s room in the back of the current boxes you could put the healthier ones behind the empty boxes and maybe glue or tape the box ends closed. I love the sign and I remember it. The had a similar one at the Drive In. We went to the Rialto Theater as kids. Now they have live entertainment there. Love the heavy red velvet curtains, etc. I went to a Halloween event there years ago. They were showing Dracula and it was so awesome. The film broke like in the old days and everyone would begin to grumble but before the film began, an area on stage opened up, an organ and organist raised up from below and she did an awesome job of playing it. The Rialto was used for parts of the movie Stir of Echoes, which probably isn’t your type of movie but it’s very good, starring Kevin Bacon, a murder mystery. They also shot some of the movie in our Union Station. We had some really cool things as kids, Jiffy Pop Popcorn for one, Silly Putty, etc. Can’t wait for the “food critic” review after your first popping.
That’s a great idea! I should do that, keep some of the empty boxes just for display, but load it up more often with the healthy stuff when the boys are coming over. What great memories! That is so cool that they had live entertainment when the film broke!
Oh, I remember Jiffy Pop…I think that may still be available. I hope it is.
lol Yes, that should be interesting!
Great idea about saving the boxes and reusing them, Sandra. Having them in sight like that really brings back that old, fun feeling.
YOU TRULY HAVE A “DREAM HOUSE” going on here!!! It ALL looks so…yours!!
(*) As “one gets older” cleaning that popcorn machine after popping…well, let’s just say, “some of us,” just empty several bags of “Skinny Pop” in it (shhhh) movies started… ❤️ that sign…& yes, remember it well… ❤️ the movies. franki
Thanks so much, Franki! lol I hope it won’t be too bad. One of the reviews made it sound pretty easy. I really do like the Naked Popcorn a BNOTP reader told me about so I’m sure I’ll keep that on hand for those times when it needs cleaning and I’m not up for it. lol
I have admired those types of popcorn machines, however, I read that some do not make good popcorn. But they are adorable. I love how it has the concession stand too. Please post after you make popcorn to let us know if the popcorn is tender and good.
I definitely will! I purchased this popcorn “kit” that was recommended in a review: https://amzn.to/43imItY
Once I get used to how it works, I’m sure I’ll try regular popcorn, but I like how everything is premeasured in the popcorn that I purchased at that link. Plus, it’s made by a company that makes popcorn poppers, so hopefully it will be good.
I know, the Concession stand is so cute!
Fabulous idea. Your post made me crave some popcorn! The room is looking great. Fun posters. Can’t wait to hear about the boys reaction. You can’t leave Ohio! 🙂
Thanks, Teresa! Their baseball schedule is so crazy, plus they made All Stars…and they have a camping trip this weekend, so I’m not sure when we’ll get to have another movie night. It may be several weeks, so maybe I’ll give the popcorn machine a try by myself. I should probably do that anyway to see how it works.
Love your movie room! Not sure how old your grandsons are, but mine age 7 & 9 are crazy about the Dollar Tree socks with candy and soda prints. You could get socks to match the candy in your concession stand!
I haven’t seen those. What a cute idea. They could wear them especially for movie nights.
Heehee. It’s all coming together so nicely. Love, love, love your cute little popcorn machine. Like you, I would have gotten the one with the concessions compartment. That makes it so much more fun. And I love the choice of candies you got. Next time, throw in some Goobers and Raisinets, lol. And I love that adorable sign and Yes! I remember that little video of the dancing, singing snacks. So fun and nostalgic. Can’t wait to see the completed room, Susan. You’ve done a great job. Now I just hope you can find enough good movies to watch. 😛
All you need now is one of those hotdog roller machines that cook the hotdogs and toast the buns, to have a true movie theater experience (and aroma, too!) and maybe you could bring up from your other house that cute mini fridge that you have in the office (I think it was aqua colored?) to keep cold drinks.
Hot dog roller, lol. 😀 That would be hilarious, Elena. For some reason I suddenly pictured Susan in a white uniform with a little white paper hat behind the machine, dispensing the hot dogs and condiments. I wouldn’t put it past her! She’ll do anything fun for her family.
Oh my I love this! But I would insist on Junior Mints! I never eat those anywhere else but there’s something about a movie theater that makes me need them. But right now I’m going to find some popcorn to make….
Susan, I would love to see the expressions on your grandsons’ faces when they come into the media room and see that popcorn machine. I bet it will be priceless! Love, love how this is all coming together and I can hardly wait for the other suprises you have coming.
LOVE that concession feature and how pretty the rainbow-colored boxes look lit up in it! Walgreen’s often has a 3 boxes for 3 dollars deal on the theatre-style candy, and DollarTree has a good variety of them too, plus other snacks, like Fruit Rollups, PopCorners, sunflower seeds, pretzel rods and Moon Pies! And, the classic lobby treat jingle is in my head now : ) !
What fun! Looks GREAT! And I remember the little jingle those dancing “treats” sang too. Love your movie room!
