Furnishing The Sunporch & Some Additional Updates I’d Like To Make

Welcome to 822nd Metamorphosis Monday! A few weeks ago I rented a U-haul to bring up the table and six chairs I had purchased for my cottage home in Ohio, aka, the Dollhouse.

Halloween Tablescape, October 2024

I still need to create a post to share more about that little adventure! The table was the very first thing to go on. It was still in the box that it had arrived in and was placed flat against the front wall of the truck.

Since I was spending $$$ to rent a good-size U-haul, I decided this would be a great time to bring up another table that I thought would work well in the Dollhouse. I’ve often thought of replacing my current wicker breakfast room set since it has always felt a tad too large for my breakfast room. It was purchased many years ago from a store called Grand Harbor, which is sadly no longer in business. Buying a wicker breakfast set was an attempt to appease the yearning I was having for white wicker, but it has always felt a little too large for that room. After I added on a screened porch filled with loads of white wicker, using white wicker in the breakfast room felt a bit redundant.

So the white wicker set from the breakfast room got loaded onto the truck, as well.

Where did the breakfast room wicker dining set end up in the Dollhouse?

Sunroom, Sunporch filled with white wicker

I was a little worried that it would be way too large for the Dollhouse sunporch/sunroom, but I think it works pretty well here.

White Wicker for a Small Sun Porch

Here’s more of a wide-angle view of how things are currently arranged. There’s still plenty of room to walk across the room to the door that leads to the backyard gardens.

When I was getting quotes for plantation shutters, I had these windows measured. I wasn’t sure I’d ever do shutters in this room since this is more of a 3-season porch that will most likely only be used during the spring and summer months when there’s plenty of privacy. But I think I’ve changed my mind on that. Plantation shutters would probably help keep the room a bit warmer and they would make the room feel a lot more finished. I kinda wish the brick in this space wasn’t painted and I’d love to see a photo of how it looked before it was painted. I’m pretty sure this room was originally a screened-in porch. I’d like to replace the flooring at some point, maybe with a brick floor. In the meantime, I’ll keep my eye out for a rug since the white wicker feels a bit like it’s floating on the cream-colored tile. A rug would help ground this space.

Sunroom, Cottage Home

I’d invite you to lay back and enjoy the chaise, but it appears to already be occupied. Ha!

SunPorch in Cottage Home

Wonder if I can squeeze in a garden stool alongside the chaise for holding a frosty drink in the summer. I have several at home, I may bring one back on my next trip up.

Vintage Wicker Chaise

Some say old houses are sometimes haunted. It must be true since I do seem to have a ghost waving at me when I look out my office window. Hahaha!

Sunroom Ghost, Sunporch Ghost

Now I need a breakfast table for the Georgia house. lol Very tempted to go with this one! I think it would fit and look much better in that space than the wicker one did.

Little updates taking place around here all the time. Looking forward to sharing more!

  1. The wicker set looks great in the Dollhouse sunroom and I love the set you are thinking about for your breakfast room in GA!

  2. Tamara Nelson says

Susan you are confusing me . Your suppose to be moving why are you furnishing the other house. Remember your moving you don’t need that other set of kitchen table and chairs. I see you still haven’t made up your mind yet. I don’t know if I could either.

    • lol I’m still trying to decide if I want to sell the home in Georgia. I really love that home after living there for over 30 years. I’ve always wanted to replace the wicker set in that room, so this has given me a good excuse to do that.

  3. Love the wicker dining set in the sunroom!

    Wonderful decision

It’s like a vacation destination attached to the house

May need a kitten to cozy it up….

  4. Love your sunporch, Susan. Looking forward to seeing your rug for the space. We had a small inexpensive sunporch 2 houses back with no heating and air, but used it 3 seasons, and during the holidays we put out a small space heater and it functioned well and stayed warm during the day for extra seating. I’m really enjoying your transition up north. Your little ghost friend is adorable.

    • That’s awesome that you were able to enjoy it for so much of the year! I was surprised by how comfortable it was out there last night when family was here for dinner. We ate in the dining room, but I had the door open to the porch and had placed cupcakes out on the table for later. It was surprisingly pretty nice out there with the living room door open. A space heater is a great idea for when the temps get a lot colder here.

  5. Looks great in the sun porch. Maybe the chaise can go to your bedroom for winter reading. Have you thought about putting film on those windows to keep the cold out before adding shutters ? I don’t know Susan. The dollhouse seems like a mini McMansion with so many rooms and crooks and crannies than the “cottage” you always wanted. LOL I think you should go through winter there before rethinking selling the Georgia home. When it’s gone, it’s gone for good. It would leave a big hole in your heart if you regretted selling it. Only you will know when the time is right.

    • The chaise is incredibly heavy, takes two strong people to move it, so I think it’s on the porch to stay. I think the shutters would be better for privacy in the winter and I just love how they look. It has a lot of rooms, but some are quite small. I love all the thought that went into the design of the house, though. Also, the owner who lived here for 20 years made some really great updates.

      • I meant adding a film as insulation to keep the cold out before shutters, which BTW will look really nice in there. The new dining room table goes so well in the dollhouse. Good choice. You have done an impressive amount of work since moving in.

  6. Franceil Parde says

❤️ IT!! Now…it’s a “Dream House!!!” Just LOVEly!!! franki

  7. I really look forward to your updates and love your “dollhouse”! You have such great ideas! When you were looking at tables for the dollhouse, I fell in love with the round version, too. But, sadly for me, the table is 54″ across and then I’d need to allow 30″ to 36″ all around the table for chairs I’d need 9.5 to 10.5 feet of space in my breakfast room and I simply didn’t have enough room. My present table is 41″ across and is a little too large for my area, already. I’ll be looking forward to your decision.

    • It is a pretty big table, it will easily seat 5. I’m glad you mentioned that because I need to measure and make sure it will work in the GA dining room before I buy it. The wicker table is 48 inches wide but what made it take up so much space are the wicker chairs. The chairs are really big and take up a lot of room. I’m sorry it won’t work for your breakfast room, Margaret. They need to make a smaller version. I love the design of the pedestal!

  8. The dollhouse is looking so homey and inviting, I love it! It’s just my opinion but I think if the chaise was tucked under the double window (where your table is) and the table was moved to the space where the chaise was, it would open up the space. Thank you for sharing; you inspire many of us.

    • I’ll have to try that just to see how it looks. I had placed the chaise there since it overlooks the garden down below, but I would be curious to see how it looks with those switched. Thanks for that suggestion, Nina!

    • Nina, That was my first thought, too! It looks like too much furniture in that room where it is placed now. I can’t see where the door entrance is and how the path of travel moves, but it looks pretty congested. Try it rearranged. Susan, I agree with another follower who questions who questions how much you’re purchasing for the new home. If you decide to move to Ohio permanently, you will have so much more to downsize. Get Ohio furnished with the basics, then live with it for a year through the seasons before you invest in more things.

      • There’s still plenty of room, I can easily walk through to the door that leads to the garden. You can see that in the wide-angle photo. I have the chairs pulled out away from the windows so I could even push the table closer over and there would be even more room, but I like it better pulled out since there’s plenty of room to get to the door. Also, I haven’t invested in any furniture for that room. As mentioned in the post, that table is from my current home and the chaise is, as well. The chaise was in the basement and not being used, purchased it many years ago for my screen porch back in Georgia, but never used it there.

      • Also, I’m not sure if you saw my post that I wrote a week or two ago answering questions about when or if I was going to move, but in that post I explained that there is a chance that I may not ever sell my home in Georgia, I may just keep it. I have lived in that home for 35 years so I want to absolutely make sure that I’m okay with living in another state, especially when it gets super cold (in the negatives) in the winter time, before I make a decision to sell a home I’ve lived in for so long. So I will probably continue to buy furniture here and there for this home but my main focus going forward is going to be replacing the 20 old appliances and adding more plantation shutters throughout. Check out that previous post that I wrote a couple of weeks ago, and I think it it will explain it better for you, Cathy.

  9. Until I enlarged the photo of the chaise I thought there was a Santa relaxing there-lol!

  10. Cowgirl Diva says

Sunporch + Wicker + Plantation Shutters = Perfection..!

  11. Susan,
I love both chairs and tables where you put them including the chaise….I am confused…Are you going to sell your home in Georgia or keep both homes??? Both are stunning!!!
Thanks so much for hosting!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!! I hope you are enjoying your week and you are doing well…

  12. Glad to see the wicker set found a home in your new/old sunroom. I agree that a rug would be just right and help create a warm and cozy space. As for the brick, would you be able to create the similar look to the bricks outside, where the white is partially ‘worn off?’ That could look cute.

Things are really moving along. I’m always concerned about what you’re doing for a place to relax and curl up. I love that chair you recently bought for the office, so I suppose you curl up there. But I know you must be longing for a living room that’s set up and inviting. Hmm. Can’t wait to see what you decide for that room. Oh, I just remembered – didn’t the sellers leave you some reclining chairs in the basement rec room? At least you have that for relaxing. 😀

    • I ended up giving those away to friends of the cleaning person the realtor hired to clean the house after the sellers moved out. I decided I would like something a bit different down there. I haven’t replaced it, yet. I hope I like the chair that is supposed to be delivered tomorrow.
I like that idea for the bricks!

  13. Nancy Brantley says

Wicker table and chaise is great for the Cottage sun porch. We have a sun porch and a radiator heater keeps it cozy in Winter. We keep the house door open. If you don’t need to sell Georgia house I would not sell. 2 homes in different areas to enjoy!

    • Ohhh, I like that! I could do that on most days, keep the living room door open. Thanks for saying that, Nancy. Appreciate that perspective! I’m taking my time to make sure, so I don’t have any regrets.

  14. Terri Solomon says

Your Dollhouse has charm in every nook and cranny. Love the sun porch. The chaise looks like the perfect place to curl up with a good book. You’re doing a beautiful job of making it your own and I enjoy seeing all the progress.
    Terri

  15. Looks really good there, Susan.

  16. I am in awe of all you have accomplished in the Doll House. I hope you had lots of help loading and unloading the truck. I think it is wonderful that you are close to the grandkids, and you will get to enjoy them for many years. We have had two houses for the last 15 years. At times it seems like too much and I am sure there will come a time when we need to settle in one spot. For now, it works for us. I love reading your posts on the changes you have made to the house, and I look forward to reading them. You will never regret the time you spend with the kids.

    • Thanks so much, Lin! I did get some help with the loading and unloading because there were two items I couldn’t lift that high by myself. I had my son, DIL and grandsons over for dinner on Sunday and it was awesome! My daughter-in-love said she would love to do it every Sunday. I would love that, too! You’re so right about never regretting the time spent with family.

  17. Peggy Nodine says

Susan, Love the Wicker on your Sun Porch/ Sun Room. I also love your idea of a pretty rug on the floor and the Plantation Shutters would be beautiful there too, even on your doors. Can’t wait to see all this room when you finish it. I know you will have a hutch of some kind there, like the one on your porch in Georgia. I love your Georgia house so much, it is a lot like my house in SC, I hope you will keep it, I have lived here for 35 years and it would be so hard to sell. Good Luck with all your decisions. Thank you for sharing.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
