Welcome to the 810th Metamorphosis Monday! How was your weekend? I hope it was a great one! We ended up spending all day Saturday at a huge, 364-acre amusement/water park called King’s Island. We arrived a few minutes after 9:00 am and didn’t leave for 12 hours! What an experience! We hit the ground running as soon as we entered the park, making our first ride the Diamondback roller coaster, which is considered a “Thrill Level 5” on their Thrill Chart. That’s the highest level they give their coasters. My 8 and 10 year-old grandsons loved it and were ready for more!
I didn’t get to ride as much as I wanted because I kept getting nauseated on the rides which I think was due to the sinus/ear infection I came down with right after the hardwood floors were refinished on the main level of my home a few weeks ago. We had so much fun, though, and I’m sure this is going to become an annual trip. This particular roller coaster below is the Banshee and three of the upside down people in that photo are my son and grandsons. Ha!
Note: I’ve discovered over the past few weeks that my spell-check plugin doesn’t work if a post is over a certain number of words, so please excuse typos as I repeatedly go back through each post checking for those. Argh—must find a new spell-check plugin! Sooo, let’s talk new refrigerators! After bringing out a dented LG refrigerator last week, then taking it away, the delivery crew brought it back the very next day so I’d have a fully-working fridge until a replacement could arrive. Unfortunately, it’s going to take three weeks this time to get one, last time it took two. I’m looking at these next three weeks as a test run to see how I really like it.
Here’s a big tip that I can share if you are facing the purchase of a new appliance, and you’re worried about finding the right one. While shopping for this refrigerator at Lowe’s, I learned that if you purchase an appliance and put it on your Lowe’s card, instead of having only 48 hours to decide if you like and want to keep it, you’ll have 30 days to try it. I used to have a Lowe’s card but it had auto-closed since I hadn’t used it in ages. I wish companies wouldn’t do that—close cards when they aren’t used for a while. Anyway, when I learned that I could have 30 days to decide if the refrigerator I purchased was definitely the right one, as long as I placed it on a Lowe’s card, I drove all the way back home, unfroze my credit with all three bureaus, and reapplied for another card. I really, really wanted that peace of mind, especially after purchasing an LG washer last year and finding that I hated it. Fortunately, I had run a load of clothes right away and immediately knew I didn’t like it, but if I had waited just 49 hours before running that first load, as so many of the unhappy people in the reviews had, I would have been stuck with it. So remember that when purchasing an appliance, always check to see how long the return period is and use that appliance immediately!
So far, I’m pretty happy with this LG Counter-Depth, 4-Door, Door-in-Door with InstaView refrigerator. (Model # is: LRMVC2306S.) I say “pretty happy” because right now, it seems to be very slow to make ice and the ice reservoir is kinda small. I’m an ice lover so I’m trying to use it as I do my refrigerator at home to see if it can keep up, and by keep up, I mean fill a regular glass with ice around 6-8 times a day. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be useless for making a gallon of iced tea with my iced tea maker, something I can easily do with the ice from my KitchenAid, Counter-Depth refrigerator back in Georgia. The KitchenAid is a side-by-side and the new LG is a French Door style—not sure if that matters. Maybe I’ll be able to supplement with the large Craft ice balls that it makes—more on those in a sec.
Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself here. The refrigerator I chose has something that’s very similar to the Kenmore fridge I bought for my very first home back in 1981, a separate small door-in-door. Oh, how I constantly used and loved that door-in-door on my Kenmore. That refrigerator lasted almost 20 years and was amazing!
A gimmick, I know, but when you knock on the right door-in-door twice, an interior light comes on, illuminating the items stored in that section of the refrigerator. I think LG calls that feature “Instaview.” My old Kenmore didn’t have the light, which is kinda cool. My grandson’s love it! lol
The interior of this section is quite roomy—I don’t have it anywhere near filled up, but it’s deep enough that I’m pretty sure it would hold a full gallon of milk with no problem since I found I could easily place multiple items in front of each other. You can see there’s still a lot of room in front of the iced coffee/orange juice/milk on the bottom row. I could probably place second bottles of each on the same shelf, so it’s really roomy.
That whole door-in-door area is also accessible via the inside once you open the actual main door on that side. I doubt most of us would access it from there since normally when you open the main door on that side, it’s to get something inside the fridge itself, but it is easy to do, as seen in the photo below.
Here’s how the LG CounterDepth, InstaView Refrigerator (with Craft Ice) looks with both refrigerator doors open. I removed a shelf on the right so I could easily store tall items like a gallon pitcher of iced tea, etc… Sorry for the blurriness of these pictures, my camera had a terrible time trying to focus, I guess due to the light coming from the fridge. Update: Love the egg holder that I found! It moves the eggs downward as you use them, so you never have to pull it out to retrieve an egg. Egg holder is availble here: Egg Holder/Storage.
Also, I’ve ordered a canned drink holder which will free up the space that’s currently filled with Waterloo carbonated water. The first one I ordered wasn’t counter-depth, so it wouldn’t work with this refrigerator, but the new counter-depth one should arrive today. You’ll find it available here: Counter-Depth Can Drink Holder. The large gallon-size glass pitcher is available here: Glass Pitcher. The first one I ordered arrived broken, but the second one made it in one piece. The 14-pack storage bins/organizers that I am using and really like are available here: BPA-free Storage Bins for Fruits and Vegetables.
This side will hold more butter, cheese, etc… but this gives you an idea what can be stored on this side of the refrigerator where the icemaker is located. One of the appliance repairmen that I sometimes watch do reviews on YouTube has repeatedly warned against getting a refrigerator where the icemaker is built into the refrigerator section and not in the freeze part of the fridge. I’m going against his advice by purchasing this fridge, which is one of the main reasons I bought a 5-year extended warranty for this refrigerator, something I’ve never done for any appliance in the past.
This LG refrigerator has a large drawer that is convertible, meaning it can be used a refrigerator or as a freezer depending on the temperature button you press for that drawer. Currently, I’m using it as additional refrigerator space. I had just purchased chicken kabobs from Dorothy Lane Market for cooking out with my son when I took this photo yesterday. He picked out the steak and I brought over the chicken, as well as a huge salad with the works. We both ended up buying corn-on-the-cob, so we’ll have corn for a while! lol
There wasn’t a great way for me to snap a photo of the bottom freezer since there’s a large drawer inside that opens out when you open the freeze door. But I did snap a photo of the Craft ice that the refrigerator had just started to make. The info that came with the refrigerator said that the freezer would take 24-48 hours to start making ice. Mine started making ice after around 36 hours, but it didn’t start making the craft ice for another 12 hours or so. Since I rarely have a need for craft ice, at least not if the freezer is making enough regular ice, maybe I can use the craft ice for making iced tea with my ice-tea maker.
I wonder if my official 30-day try-out period starts when I get my actual refrigerator (which won’t be delivered until late August) or if it has already started with the arrival of the dented one? I think I’ll know if I’m happy with this refrigerator sometime over the next couple of weeks. From what I’ve seen thus far, if you have a large family and/or you or your hubby work from home, AND you love a lot of ice in your drinks, I’m not sure this refrigerator would be able to keep up. Since it’s just me, it may keep up, but the ice reservoir is quite small. Now that the refrigerator is finally producing ice, I should try filling up 5 glasses with ice all at once, just as if I were having my son, DIL, and grandsons over for dinner. The reservoir is so small, I’m not sure if it holds enough ice for that. Either way, I’ll give an update on how this refrigerator works out sometime in the next few weeks. I do love how it looks—love its graceful, curved front. (Refrigerator is available here: LG Counter-Depth Refrigerator with Dual Ice Maker.)
Oh, and I found a video showing how to get rid of the annoying chime that sounds repeatedly if you have the door open for more than a few seconds. It’s like refrigerator manufacturers look for ways to torture their customers! I found a Reddit thread online where they were saying that some of the LG support personnel were even referring people to the YT video when they were calling in to complain about the chime. You would think by now that they would have designed a way to turn it off, having received so many complaints!
I’ll close this post with some of the gotta-have-now purchases I’ve made for the kitchen. A few days ago, I shared this pretty utensil holder/organizer that I purchased, along with some of the utensils I purchased to use with my non-stick All-Clad pans. (I still want to order a stainless set of All-Clad, too!) The container was so large, I was able to add a wooden spoon set, as well. There were 9 pieces in the wood spoon set, but I just placed the 7 utensils I knew I’d use a lot in the holder. I also purchased a small Cuisinart knife set that was very inexpensive, since I already have a knife set back in Georgia. This one has all the knives I really use/need, and worked great for cutting up veggies for the salad I made yesterday. You’ll find the items in the photo below here: Utensil Organizer/Holder; Utensil Set; Wood Utensil Set; Knife Set. Cutting board was from TJ Max.

I hope your new refrigerator works out because it looks great ! Hope the ice keeps up. Interesting your comment about ice in the refrigerator door. Our 7 year old GE French door went on a blip….one side of freezer was not freezing cold…frozen fruit was mushy. Some frost on the inside…don’t know if something caught in the door…but then, after it froze things up again (after I cleaned the doors with the great stainless cleaner you recommended) a big blop of condensation appeared on the door….strange. Repairman coming to see what is up! Good to know about your new unit…just in case !
Interesting! I don’t think you should be seeing condensation on the door, especially if it’s on the outside of the door. Let me know what they find out, Ann.
Thanks for all the good info Susan, I hope your refrigerator works out, it’s very nice looking~
Thanks, Jenna!
XXX
That fridge is gorgeous. Love the lighted door! Thanks for having us over, Susan!
Thanks so much, Debra! I love the lit door, wish it would stay lit for longer periods. lol
Do you have an ice plus feature?
That is the impt icon on our LG
A bit annoying to use, but works like a charm
It does have that, I just pressed it for the second time (since I’ve had the refrigerator) this morning. It doesn’t even fill up the tiny bin during the night, but it did make 3 more huge craft ice last night. Right after it was delivered, there was no ice at all for 36 hours, then it made ice one time, one tray, then stopped. No more ice for another 24 hours. I saw a video online where they showed you could press a hidden button on the left side (after removing the ice bin) and I did that. It made the ice tray rotate and dump the ice that was in there. After that, it started making ice again, albeit slowly. I guess I’ll have to press the Ice Plus button every day. 🙁 Makes me wonder if these refrigerators are designed someplace where people hardly use ice. It seems like our appliances are getting less user-friendly or user intuitive with each passing year. They add lots of bells and whistles, but forget the things that people really want, like a lot of ice! Arggh. Sorry for whining, just irritated with whoever designs these things.
Totally random comment from me….instead of wooden spoons, have you tried spurtles??? I am a convert! I rarely use a spoon now, and LOVE LOVE LOVE the different sizes, but always reach for a smaller one for stirring anything and everything. I guess they are a very old design but had truly never heard of them till last summer. I am not a cook, by any means, and maybe that is why I am so late to the game. The fridge is gorgeous, btw.
Oooh, I’m going to Google for those and check them out. Thanks for telling me about them, Rosie!
They are so pretty! I just ordered one to add to my utensil collection…ordered this one. https://amzn.to/46xuuAc 🙂
Susan, I hope that you like it as much as I love mine….I think that the extra width on the bottom makes it better for stirring and scraping the edges of pans. I am a convert. Plus, I use the larger spurtles to stir large amounts of food, like pasta salads and crock pots full of soups and chilis. They just move more product. 🙂 Enjoy!
That sounds perfect! Looking forward to using it!
Beautiful fridge! Considering everything I’ve heard about LG appliances, I’ll be interested to hear how this works for you in the long run.
I know, they have had so many issues. Let’s hope I don’t regret choosing this one. Hope they have their linear compressor issues worked out now.
Susan, we have the same fridge but without the door in a door feature. It’s our second one since we left the first one at our previous house. I use a lot of ice, and have not run out. We also use the ice balls all the time. They work great in our beverage dispensers for party beverages or big family dinners for iced tea or water. We love this refrigerator! Hope you like yours!
That is great to hear! I’m going to let those big ice balls build up so if the regular ice runs low, I’ll at least have those. They have an LG now that makes 4 types of ice! It’s the one with mirrored right door.
I have a 2-year-old LG that looks amazingly like yours, without the glass door. The only thing I dislike about it is the icemaker takes forever to make a batch and can’t keep up with our demand. We are only two people, so mine would definitely not be suitable for a family.
Beverly, do you have the Ice Plus button where the ice/water comes out? If so, another BNOTP reader said she presses hers every morning and that works to keep the ice available. I read that pressing the Ice Plus button makes the freezer speedup and produce/dump a tray of ice every 2 hours, so that would be 12 trays in a 24-hour period. You have to press that button every day, though. If that doesn’t work, you may want to call them for a service call. It’s ridiculous that in this day and time we have to deal with this. Older refrigerators did a much better job with ice production.
Yes, I have the Ice Plus button and have now activated it. I hope this helps. Thanks for the tip.
It’s a process…everything is anymore…*sigh*…franki
So right!
Thanks so much for hosting this charming party!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!!

Thanks, Deb! Have a great week!
Gorgeous refrigerator Highly suggest you buy the extended warranty if you haven’t already.
I did, I purchased the 5-year extended warranty, only time I’ve ever done that. Refrigerators today are terrible and LG had a class action lawsuit against them, and I think may be being sued for the 2nd time, although I’m not positive about the second time. Anyway, their linear compressors had a lot of issues. I’m not sure if they’ve corrected that. The Bosch 500 Pro series is supposed to be great for ice. I wish I liked the look of the Bosch, as much.
We love our door-in-door feature. Keep condiments, wine, and kid things when they are over. (But keep Shandies in the main section; hubby believes it keeps them colder. ♀️)
I had to Google to see what a Shandies was. lol I had never heard of that before. I like your hubby’s idea, I should experiment around and see if some areas are colder in my fridge.
I am addicted to your blog and hearing about all your renovations and decorating and appliance issues! I love the look of this new refrigerator!
Aww, thanks Judy! I have so many more posts coming up, can’t wait to get those posted. Lots of fun stuff to share about the goings-on here! lol
I do love your reviews of appliances, Susan. I’m an ice hog like you, but lucky for me Mr. P doesn’t like ice. I was just wondering this morning how fast mine would refill if I made a pitcher of iced tea with my Mr. Tea.
Love Kings Island, but haven’t been there in several years. Not sure my bones can handle all those coasters I used to spend so much time on in the past, lol! Sorry you got an infection after the floors. When we had ours redone, I had a migraine, and we even stayed away from home overnight. Should’ve stayed 2!
Thanks, Rita! lol Yes, we love that ice—the more, the better! I know, I was wondering about my bones a few times. Ha! When I rode the Flight of Fear which is a roller coaster that’s inside a pitch black building, my eyeglasses almost completely left my face on the first turn, it yanked me so hard. They had completely come off my right ear and were half off my face when I managed to catch them, so I spent the rest of the ride clutching them in my right hand and holding on for dear life with my left hand. I can’t imagine how many glasses they find under the coaster after closing each day.
Yes, I definitely should have stayed away at least another 3–4 days. It didn’t seem that bad/strong when I first came back home, but after a day or so, I could tell it was really irritating my sinuses/throat. I’m sure that’s how I ended up with a sinus infection and I’m pretty sure that’s why I kept having nausea on the roller coasters, because I can tell my ears aren’t really back to normal, yet. I’m sorry you had a migraine, those are so painful! Hope neither of us have to ever have the floors redone again. They could use them in this house, but I’m just going to consider it part of its 86-year-old charm. 🙂
Susan, let’s be real! You and I know that eventually you will have those floors refinished! But for now, just enjoy the charm of your Dollhouse!
lol Actually, I’m a little afraid to do that since I’m not sure how many times they may have been refinished before. They don’t look like they’ve been refinished a bunch, though. They kinda have this polished patina, as opposed to a more modern day polyurethane look, and I kinda like it. So I don’t think I’ll be in a rush to refinish them. Plus, there are so many more updates I really need to do first.
Oh my gosh – that roller coaster!! I’m always the one on the ground holding the coats, but it must have been amazing! Your refrigerator looks great. I hope the ice is enough and the drawer doesn’t mess you up too much. Love those big round ice balls though, and it’s good that you get the 30-day review period. Hope you’re feeling better, and thanks as always for hosting. This party is the best thing about Mondays!
Well, you are invaluable to the success of everyone having fun because the coat-holding person is very important! I was the wallet, sunglasses, and drink holding person a few times. lol
Thanks, Barbara! So thankful for that 30-day period!
I managed to get stung in the ankle today by a wasp, always something! Ha!
We lived in Louisville,KY for many years. We went to Kings Island when it was new. Yes I am old and so are my kids.
That is so cool that you saw it when it was brand new!
I love ice too, and after discovering that an in-door ice maker/dispenser took up so much room in my fridge interior, and didn’t provide enough ice I finally decided to go in an altogether different direction. I got the Bosch refrigerator which has French doors above, and lower section contains the ice-maker and freezer space. Now I have so much ice I almost don’t know what to do with it! I’m much happier with this refrigerator!
Thanks, Susan,
for hosting, as always, but also thank you for the great info about buying new
appliances, we can use all the help we can get these days! lol
We bought quite a few new ones just before hubby retired, but washers are not the same as they used to be…took me awhile to get used to it. That is good to know about length of time return them. I don’t think we ever asked that, just thinking once you get it that you couldn’t return it…unless it was broken or didn’t work. lol Hope you enjoy your new fridge, she’s a beauty. Blessings, Nellie
What I sometimes do at night is take any leftover ice from the bin, put it in ziplock bags and store them in the freezer. This way I have extra ice “ banked “ if I run low for other occasions or I use too much myself on certain days.
