New Lamp For The Porch & Big Changes For The Porch Fans! Psst: I Like These Better!

Welcome to the 896th Metamorphosis Monday! On Saturday, I shared a photo of this outdoor lamp that I had ordered. This lamp originally sold for $133 at Home Depot. I lucked out and discovered it available on eBay for around half that price.

Outdoor Lamps, Perfect for Porch

The timing was perfect since the vinyl, wicker-style lamp I’d had in this spot for many years was beginning to crumble and fall apart whenever it was touched.

Agatha is happy to demonstrate the new lamp for you. Please ignore all the pollen you’ll see on the porch floor. I cleaned off the table for this post, but the floor around it is still a mess with pollen. The porch furniture is covered up, and I’m waiting until pollen season is over to give the floor a good cleaning.

Agatha was curious about the opening in the birdhouse. I didn’t realize she had stuck her paw inside until later when I was looking at the photos. Too funny! I don’t think she even knows what a birdhouse is, but that hole was too much temptation.

Beatrice had to check out the new lamp, too. Ignore the cord sticking so far out on the porch. I placed the lamp here temporarily for the photos, and I should have tucked the cord back behind the table. The lamp will be going back inside until the pollen subsides.

Porch Lamp, great for outdoors

I really like how it looks here. If you could use an outdoor lamp for your porch, you’ll find this one available here: Outdoor Table Lamp.

Outdoor Lamp, Great for Screened Porch

I ordered two lamps since the price was too good to pass up, and based on past experience, I’ll probably have to replace the porch lamp again someday. So, where did the other lamp end up for now? Currently, I have two litter boxes for the kitties: one in the hall bath upstairs and one in the basement utility/storage room. Eventually, both litter boxes will be here in the basement. That has worked well in the past when I had 3 furbabies, and there were never any accidents. I don’t think it will be too long before I can move the litter box in the upstairs hall bath down to the basement. Beatrice and Agatha know this house like they’ve lived here forever, and they love hanging out down here, sitting on the green cooler, watching the birds and chipmunks out the window.

Basement Utility Storage Room

So about that other lamp: I placed it here on my workbench near the litter box so the kitties can easily find their litter box during the evening/night when the overhead lights are off. Don’t worry, that’s not an intake vent that you see in the photo near the litter box. It’s a vent that was added to the wall (after this room was sheetrocked) to allow airflow to a closet on the other side, which houses the furnace and water heater.

Fan Update: The new Hunter Bayview fans that I ordered to replace my 16-year-old, rusted Bayview fans arrived a few days ago, and Hunter tricked me. 🙁

Though the information I found online at various websites indicated the fans were still being made with two-sided fan blades, one side with a faux wicker design and the other side with a fake-looking leaf look, when I opened the box, I found that the blades only had the ugly, fake leaf design. The other side of the blade was plain with no design at all. I found it ironic that even the installation booklet inside the box still showed the fan blades with a wicker design.

This Hunter outdoor fan was offered in both brown and white, which is why the brown fan appears on the front of the booklet. I returned the fans to Home Depot a few days ago and decided to order a different fan I had seen online with wicker-design blades and great reviews.

The fans arrived yesterday, and I’m really happy with how the blades look. The wicker design on the blades (in my opinion) is prettier and more realistic-looking than the wicker design on my old Hunter fan blades.

Wicker Style Ceiling Fan, Nosy Kitty

I can’t wait to get these two fans up on the porch. The electrician is scheduled to be here on Thursday.

Even the other side is very pretty. This palm-frond side looks a million times more like a palm leaf than the design I saw on the Hunter outdoor fan. I really like both sides of this fan, but I’ll probably stick with the wicker side since my porch is furnished with a lot of white wicker furniture.

One thing that’s different about this fan is that it comes with a light kit. I’ve never really needed that since I’m not a fan of overhead lighting and only use lamp-lighting on the porch. The shades look pretty, though, so I don’t mind having those on the fans. I guess the electrician will know what to do to make those work, but honestly, I’ll probably never turn them on. You’ll find this beautiful fan with the two-sided design available here: Outdoor Fan With Two-sided Fan Blades.

Will share how the new fans look later this week after they are installed. Hope you found this helpful if you are in need of outdoor fans. Looking forward to all the wonderful Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday! Like to know when a new blog post is up? Does the good looking new fan operate from light switch, chain or remote control? My current old fan may need replacing, operates from remote control. Previous porch fan directed from wall switch + chain. I did find with tall ceiling the remote was more efficient for comfort levels.

    • The current ones work via switches on the wall that let you adjust how fast the fans run. The switches (one for each fan) has around 8 speed levels. They are toggle switches. They are by Lutron and I really like them. I guess I’d better look at the paper work that came with the new fans to see what these require. Hopefully, they will work with the Lutron switches, would love that! I don’t want to ever use the pull chain, so the light(s) will probably always stay off.

  2. Oooh – love your new fan, and way to keep at it to find one you like. The kittens checking out the lamp and birdhouse are adorable, of course. So fun! I’m curious to see how your fans look once they’re in. Take care and thanks as always for the party!

    • Thanks, Barbara! Hopefully, they will work as well as the other have for so many years. Happy spring! Hope you’re having a great one!

  3. Love the new porch additions, and the kitties are so cute and fun. Do they travel well between homes?

    • Thanks, Jillian! They did really well on this first, very long trip. They were so good about using their litter boxes. I was amazed by how they did.

  4. Susan,
Thanks so much for hosting!! I really appreciate the time and effort that goes into it along with visiting all the links!! I hope you are enjoying your week and you are doing well…

  5. So sorry you had trouble with the Hunter fans. Argh! But the new ones might be even more to your liking, and they sure were a good deal. You did well with the lamps, also. I love how the girls follow you around and are curious about everything. They are so adorable.

Your kitties are so cute – bet they LOVE your porch and all the birdsong! The paw in the birdhouse made me giggle out loud. Great timing on that shot.

I am glad you stuck to finding wicker – it’s truly the right choice in your awesome porch. Well done – but what a pain to have to return the other ones. Sorry for that.

  7. The kittens are so sweet, but why do babies have to grow up so fast? I bet they are loving the screened porch-in porch. We might end up in Florida, so I’ll try to get one then.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
