Recently, for Tablescape Thursday, I posted a table setting with a beach/coastal feel.
That table setting also included a fun, easy-to-make starfish napkin fold. Here are the super easy steps to creating this fun napkin fold.
Lay your napkin out on a flat surface, with it turned on the diagonal.
Fold the top corner down until it meets the lower corner.
Fold the right, top corner down toward the bottom center.
Do the same for the left side, folding the top, left corner down to the bottom center.
Turn your napkin over, keeping it in the same orientation as before.
Fold the entire lower half (all layers) of the napkin upward as shown. All layers will be folded upward.
Lift the napkin upward (from underneath) in the center as if you were going to fold it in half.
This is how it should look at this stage. The two lower pointed sections are going to be the two lowers arms of your starfish.
Fold the other “arms” on the left and right of your napkin outward and you’ll see your starfish begin to take shape. You may need to play around a little with it, tugging here and there to form your starfish shape. I didn’t starch my napkins before hand but that would probably make for a crisper starfish.
This fold is just right for a fun, beach themed party or table setting. Have fun creating your starfish napkins!
Pssst: Love trying new napkin folds? You’ll find lots more under the “Tablescape” category at the top of BNOTP.
So adorable!
I just finished your shell chargers!!!!! What fun, I can’t wait to use them. Also looking forward to your tablescape using them.
Janet, that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see them. Mine are almost done, but then a wedding and a blog move came along. I need to finish mine up, too!
Thanks!!! Great tutorial! XO, Pinky
Thanks! Pinky, I know you like having access to the napkin folding tuts. You may have already noticed but I have a category for them under Tablescapes and under DIY/Tabletop at the top of the blog. I was thinking about you when I made those categories. 🙂
I absolutely love the blue!
How fun is this! I can’t wait to try it. Love you site!
Thank you, Susan. I plan on using this napkin fold at the beach. We are having guests for the first time this month. However, I guess that I had better go and buy some cloth napkins – my husband and I have only been using paper ones there, since we purchased the place (please don’t tell…lol!).
Susan, these are adorable! Love the colours you used throughout this tablescape. -Brenda-
P.S: I think you would be a natural at doing Origami. 🙂
so cute and cleaver!
So gorgeous!!!!!!! Where did you get those plates?????
Thanks, Jann! Plates are from Kohl’s around 4-5 years ago.
These are so cute! I have to try this. Love the plates….I debated over getting these at Kohls so long that they were gone….should have listened to Hubby and bought them 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
Susan, just returned from the beach so beach theme settings are on my mind. This is a darling idea! Thanks for the tutorial. I’m going to try this for one of my tables. ~ sarah
So darned cute, and you are an expert at giving clear and easily understood directions!
What is the brand of the dishes you bought a Kohl’s – the blue ones with the white sea shell figures
around the border.
Hi Eileen,
On the back of the plates it says, “Shoreline Collection Home Studio” and shows a picture of a starfish.
