Over the past 4-6 weeks, I’ve made a lot of smallish updates to the Dollhouse. Though small, those kinds of updates are often my favorite since they can yield big results and make the everyday chores in life more convenient.
A couple of years back I purchased a Dyson vacuum for the Georgia house. For several months I had it stashed in a closet, then one day it dawned on me that I really should store it someplace where it could hang on its charger so it would always be ready to go whenever I needed it. Not sure why it took me so long to realize that. If you have a cordless vacuum and haven’t taken the time to hang it near an outlet, I very much encourage you to do that. The hardest part can be finding the right spot. I wanted mine near an outlet, but also in a spot where it didn’t draw too much attention. In the Georgia house, that turned out to be here in the laundry room. I already had an outlet available and the vacuum would be in a spot where it was out of the way, yet easily accessible.
After I purchased the Dollhouse, I decided to order another Dyson vacuum since I’d been so happy with the one back in Georgia. Having learned from my mistake of not hanging the other Dyson right away, before it even arrived, I knew right where I wanted it installed. Located just at the top of the first flight of stairs are two storage areas: a little elf-size, cubby hole storage, and a full-size closet.
The cubby storage is visible in this photo on the left and the closet is directly across from it.
Both of those storage areas are located just outside the door to my office. Before the Dyson vac arrived, I knew I wanted to store it here in the landing hall closet. I use this closet a lot. The top shelf is where I store a large container that holds all the tools I’ve purchased since acquiring the Dollhouse, so I’m in and out of this closet a lot. This closet seemed like the perfect spot for the Dyson vacuum since it’s the halfway point between the two upper floors, thus easy to reach from either floor when needed.
Luckily, there’s already an outlet in my office just on the other side of the wall, so I thought it would probably be easy for the electrician to tap into that outlet to add the new outlet. As it turned out, it was and he had it installed in no time. This closet is a lot bigger than it looks in the photo, I guess it’s the angle of the photo that is making it look so small.
The electrician recommended installing the outlet up high. He even took the time to install the Dyson wall-hanging device, which I really appreciated. I wanted to share this in case you’re trying to find a good spot to hang a cordless vacuum. If you like your vacuum hidden as I do, and you have a closet that’s near an existing outlet, maybe that would work for your cordless vacuum, too. (Dyson vacuum is available here: Dyson Vacuum.)
The Cutest Card! One last thing I thought I’d share: I just purchased this card for a friend’s upcoming birthday and I was so surprised how reasonably priced it was. Normally, Pop-up, 3-D style greeting cards are quite expensive, but this one was around the same price as a regular card. Also, it’s not just a birthday card. It came with a pretty, blank card inside so it could be used for any occasion. I liked it so much, I purchased two more after it arrived: one for myself because I wanted to see it fully opened and with the butterflies in place and another to give some time in the future. If you need a card for an upcoming event like a Bridal shower, Birthday, Housewarming, Thank-you, Congratulations, Mother’s Day, etc… this card would be perfect. You’ll find it available here: Beautiful, 3-D, Pop-up Card.
Oh, and if you’re looking for a great gift or just something fun for yourself, the puzzle board that I use and love when I’m in Georgia is finally back in stock.
I attempted to order one earlier last week and it was showing that it couldn’t be delivered for two months! But I noticed a few days ago that it’s finally available again, so I quickly ordered one for the Dollhouse. It should be here on Tuesday and I can’t wait to get a puzzle going on it. (Puzzle Board is available here: Puzzle Board.)
I have a couple of puzzles here that I’m looking forward to doing, including this one that feels kinda fall-like. (Puzzle is available here: Great Smoky Mountains National Park.)
This is the other one that I’m looking forward to completing. It’s a mystery that you solve by doing the puzzle. Love that! (Puzzle is available here: Mystery Puzzle.) I am looking forward to working puzzles this winter when it gets too cold to be outside here in Ohio. Ha! I’m planning ahead!
See you tomorrow for Metamorphosis Monday!
What a perfect spot; it’s as if that little closet has been waiting for a dyson vacuum all that time
It really is the perfect location for it.

That’s where I keep my Meile cordless vacuum too. My husband ran power inside the closet and attached the charging base to the wall. I like that it’s always charged and ready to use every time I need it, because I reach for it practically every day! Susan, I saw something on QVC a few weeks ago and thought about you. It’s called Drain Magic sink stopper. (Item number V83145) I ordered a set for myself to use in my master bathroom. The quality is very nice. I ordered the chrome color. I absolutely LOVE the “Dollhouse”! I look forward to all of your posts about your projects. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Thanks so much, Rhonda! Thanks for sharing that drain, I just ordered one! I hope it will fit because that will solve two issues, the appearance issue and I love that it stops hair from going down the drain. I’ll let you know if it fits, that would be amazing! Thanks again for telling me about it!
You always have such wonderful ideas! Love the closet idea for your Dyson. I purchased “your” puzzle board for my DIL for Christmas and she loves it. She has found that she can check puzzles out at her local library.
Hi Susan, the pitcher in the card looks so real and it’s such a cheerful card! I too like to work on puzzles, but I’ve never worked on a “mystery” puzzle, that sounds really interesting and fun to work on.
Once the puzzle is all put together: what do you do with them? I have two that I’d love to display (for sentimental reasons), but I have no idea how.
You’re so clever with where to put the Dyson etc.
Thanks so much, Wendy! I usually put store them away in case I want to do them again sometime. I do that occasionally.
If it’s a puzzle that I’m especially fond of, maybe for sentimental reasons, I have found a super easy, non-messy way to preserve them.
You can see that in this previous post here: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/how-to-save-or-frame-a-jigsaw-puzzle-without-using-messy-glues/
Wow, thanks for telling us about those pretty floral pop-up cards! There is a company that sells similar 3D bouquets and while lovely and very lifelike, they are much pricier and I don’t believe that they double as cards like the one you shared. I looked through all the bouquet options on your link and got the gorgeous magnolia design with the blue and white bowl and sweet hummingbird and think I will use it for my mom’s birthday card! She will love it!
❤️ the card…two on the way here…THANX!! franki
Oh excellent new about the DH spot for new hanging vac. Winner winner, chicken dinner!! And I adore that pop up card and put it in my A cart. It’s soooo cute!!!!
I have a question. Are you planning on keeping both homes? Or not completely moving for a long time? Why else would you be buying double of so many items. I can’t be the only one wondering this, and I thank you for letting us know. Love watching the new home come back to life!!
I’m not sure, yet, just taking some time to decide since it’s a big decision. I guess I’ll know when the time is right.
Michael did just that in our coat closet for the Meile cordless we have. I love that it can recharge out of sight. I know exactly what you mean about gratification from all the little projects. Your home is so adorable and I just love the window boxes with your little hummingbird coming for visits. Hugs!
I love the white desk organizer to the left of your puzzle. The clear sides show each compartment of gem clips, binder clips, pencils, ect… and looks great! Where can I find one like that?…
Thanks, Debra! That was from Pottery Barn several years back. They may still make it. I just checked and I don’t think it’s available now. Wonder if you could find it on eBay. Here’s a link to where it used to be available:

Not quite the same thing, but here’s the one I’m currently using here in my office in the Dollhouse: https://amzn.to/4dTnq45 . It works great, have been quite happy with it. I have it in gray, but it comes in black and in white, too.
Thanks! I appreciate that!
