Seashell Chest

My birding vacation got in the way of shopping at the Flea for a couple of weekends…but I made a trip this week.  You won’t believe what I left behind that I really wanted! I did buy two things that I’ll share at the bottom of this post.

This adorable chest was probably my favorite treasure this week at A Classy Flea…but alas, it was already sold. I took six pics of it though because I thought this was something you and I could do to a chest ourselves. You can click on the pics to enlarge them for better detail.

Chest Decorated with Shells

The chest is painted this nice aqua blue that reminds you of the ocean waves…here’s a veiw of the top…

Chest Decorated with Shells

This might come in handy real soon…say in about a week! 🙂

Porch swing…a coat of paint and it would be really nice: $59

Dancer: $5

Blue and White Tureen: $24…surprised this is still here…

Iron Rooster Pot rack: $79 Wonder if Rose (Santamaker) who is rooster crazy will go snag this.
Turkey platter: $19.95 I keep eyeing this every week…don’t know why it hasn’t been bought!

Butterfly mirror…only $14

Close-up of top of mirror…whose reflection do I see? 🙂

Love this plate: $29

Huge silver tray: $29

Iron and Seagrass, 2 pc. bistro set…hand painted $59. I’ve never seen one like this before…

Close-up…

Gotta have a book or two in here for Lynne (Lynne’s Gifts from the Heart) $9.95

Vanna (lvroftiques) who has a gorgeous French bedroom posted on RMS, would love this book, I think: The French Woman’s Bedroom…$7.95

Green Iron Terrarium on stand: $59

Every week this guy’s in a different place…oooohhh, I see a pretty trunk in the background.

Chandelier…

This looks like Rose (A Santamaker’s Journey) upholstered it…I love it! $249

Close-up of the gorgeous fabric…

Great wall shelf: $28

This little rooster is still here and he’s only $12.99…

Cloche…the bottom is really pretty…it’s made to look old and is blue and white…$19.95

Ok…now for my purchases: I bought this 14 inch tall urn for only $14.95. I’m going to take out the faux flowers and use it in a different way.  Update:  You can see how I ended up using this urn here: Table Setting with Vintage Copeland Spode Tower

I also bought this bunny tureen for only $4. There was a tiny chip on the rim on the inside of the lower dish…but for $4, I couldn’t pass him up. He’s 12 inches long, so he’s good size.
So what were your favs this week? I’m still in love with that seashell chest! 🙂

  1. If you have any room left, and the buyer changes their mind, that chest would look great on your porch. It looks similar in color to the hutch you have there now. Whenever you redo a chest for the porch, I’m sure you’ll remember how you achieved the color on the hutch.
I love, but will leave for Rose, the rooster pot rack. I don’t have anywhere to mount it.
Maybe a dried Fall arrangement for you urn and then near Christmas you can fill it with different colored glass ball ornaments.

  2. imjacobsmom says

That bunny Tureen was a steal at $4.00. I love the cloche, Jacob would love the old “finger-chopping” fan, he loves any old electrical thing. The bunny plate is beautiful, but at $29.00 I would have to pass. I think that the flowers in the urn may look a bit fake. But I’m not there to see them and I am in hurry tonight. (I’m “helping” Jacob with his homework…) ~ Robyn

  3. Happy To Be says

OH Susan, I love the blue and white soup tureen and the sea shell chest would that not be great in a spa like bathroom? love your urn and what about putting a fern in it…you did great on the rabbit tureen for only $4.00. I want the little settee and it does look like our Rose did it..Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for the Flea trip girl..always one of my favorite trips to make with you…and can’t belive you stayed away for 2 weeks..Hugs and smiles Gloria

  4. Love the Bunny Tureen…great buy!!
What if you flipped the urn over and used it as a pedestal? (Perhaps for a decorative candle or a figurine?) For Christmas like Glenda I would be tempted to fill it with glass ornaments and/or as the bowl part is the perfect shape of a nest; make an arrangement for a Partridge (and Pears?).

  5. YAY! It's finally the Classy Flea day! OMG, I would have had a car load of stuff! The green terrarium, bunny plate, dancer & swing would have come home with me. Love the bunny & the urn. I'm thinking abour possibilities for the urn…
    :0} Diane

  6. The Flea has the best prices! The prices in my area would be higher. Such a fun place. 🙂

  7. Pat@Back Porch Musings says

It would have been difficult for me to resist the rooster platter and bunny plate, oh my, yes it would.

I love that blue chest and might have to try replicating it, for the condo.

I enjoyed, as always, your visit to Classy Flea, Susan.

  8. Suzann @ Lavender and Roses says

So many goodies! But, my favorite is definitely either the bunny or the blue and white rooster.

  9. So many beautiful things, and I can only choose one. My favorite is the plate with the rabbit.

  10. Wow….and you made it out with only 2 things. I wish I had your discipline. Your credit card magnets must not be pulling as strongly as mine! :O) Love the rabbit, and the rabbit plate. Have only recently started liking roosters, but they are all cute. I thought the best deal was the terrarium (sp?). My vote is to ditch the faux flowers. Do you have something you could put on it w/ a cloche over it? Or it could hold decorative balls or potpourri.

  11. Girl… I gotta fess up, I went there yesterday. There were a couple of things I wanted to buy, but wasn’t sure how they would work in my house…
I loved the pot rack, but knew my dear hubby would wince at the thought of bolting that to our ceiling! My favorite is the settee that “I upholstered”…ha ha..thank you, Susan!

  12. paperjunk-lc says

Great urn. I’d take the greenery out. Some green moss balls would look good or pumbkins for fall.

  13. There are some cool things in that shop. It was fun to browse it with you. I love that bunny tureen you got for a steal.

  14. Oh Susan,ya know when you go a few weeks without going,it’s like Christmas in there.I want everything you found. That chest is awesome.Easy to copy though.I sitting here as I write trying to figure out which of my chest is going to be the shell chest.
Lynne would adore that bunny platter and that tureen, man. You best watch her when she visits from now on.You may gat farkled.ha
And that rooster pot rack, man o man.My other roosters would love that. And why don’t you send me that poor orphan rooster.I feel so sad for him and he’s gorgeous.Great trip today, lovely tresures…Ann

  15. brettinsky says

My favorite is the silver tray-ooh I would love to have that. And what a great price!

I would take the flowers out of the urn and stack 3 funkins on top and put it on my porch. I might even paint my house numbers on the funkins.

And what an easy chest to duplicate! You can easily make that!

  16. My favorite without a doubt is the seashell chest. The creative idea of adding seashells to furniture is easy enough for anyone do. It’s something I’ll have to try. Thanks for the tour Susan.

  17. When I visit these posts makes me want to have a 30 room house. LOL

    Hugs,
    Chris

  18. Hi SUsan
WHat a great place to shop> I like the blue and white rooster tureen. I'd snap that up right away! I'm having a giveaway. Hope you'll stop by.
    Hugs, Rhondi

  19. LOVE your trips to the classy flea…sure wish there was one near here…I would have left with the butterfly mirror, and that swing for sure. Way to go on that urn..great buy!….Have a great weekend!..they are saying it may snow here on Sunday….aargh! ~Cindy~

  20. I liked the tureen the best I think.

I love the urn you got. I would remove the flowers but keep the greens. Or I would take them out and add a moss covered ball.

Love your bunny tureen. What a great deal. The chip just makes it more loved.

By the way, I found a china cabinet I’m rehabbing. I’ll have it on my blog soon.

    Gretchen

  21. salmagundi says

Please buy that turkey platter, so I can see it in one of your fabulous tablescapes!! Your buys were great, and I can hardly wait to see what you do with them. Sally

  22. Yay…Classy Flea Friday! What I like best is the fact this wonderful place isn’t in my town..we’d definitely be in the poorhouse. I do love that settee!!
    😉 Bo

  23. Susan (Moonlight and Magnolias on RMS) says

Wow! Thanks for ALL the great suggestions for the urn…definitely gonna remove the faux flowers and try some of those!
    🙂 Susan

  24. It’s pouring rain today. But I loved spending the morning with you at the Flea. This was fun! I love what you bought. Me, I like the faux greenery, too, but you could put anything in the urn and it would look fabulous–lemons or limes, baby tears or maidenhair fern (summer), curly willow for fall (do you have as much trouble as I do finding decent curly willow?), and fresh flowers are always lovely (as the Brits say). I have a small urn, and I put a round ball in it–the ball is covered with faux moss.

    Love your bunny!
Okay, I’m going back to work. ::sigh:: But I will be finished soon. And then I can go shopping and get my shelf!!! 🙂

settee, love it, its close to my sofa, siver tray, yes I’d buy it, had one but loaned out my things and never got them back. pot rack, love it,but I have one with roosters, now the urn, I could see magnolia, grapes hanging down, or place a large bowl or dish on top and serve from it, or put a container in and use for ice, or wine if you choose. A topiary would look good too. I love the idea on the chest of the sea shells, Going to have a half bath and do a beach look, so that one idea I have to remember. Fun shopping with you.

  48. I would love that wall shelf…looks great for teacups.
All the plates were so pretty too. Those shops are very dangerous…lol

  49. I especially like the design of the sea shell chest.

    Good Evening Susan,

Wonderful ‘window shopping’ for us today. You did great with your purchased goodies.

I see a fern in the urn…LOL…I made a rhyme. 😉 I’m sure you’ll come up with something we’ll all like.

I’d love to add that White Rooster to my collection and that Wall Shelf for $28 would do a much better job of displaying my Cappuccino Mugs, then what I have now.

Wish I could join you on your next trip.

Ok.. you know I’m usually first in line..but girl these hours are really testing the ole body here.. over 60 in a week plus my shop is enough for anyone isn’t it?? Ok.. off to do some “serious” shopping.. I love the bunny you got and naturally you knew I would..lol. Thanks for the heads up about the books.. I’m going to enjoy them..sure wish the bunny platter wasn’t quite that high.. he would look totally awesome with the rest of the green dishes I have..You know that sette would be gorgeous on the sunporch.. ummmm just another fantasy trip and that works so much better for my purse..lol… can’t wait to see what your final decision is on the urn..it is incredible… hugs ~lynne~

  52. Hi, I LOVE going “shopping” with you to the Flea. My husband and I are planning a little trip next week. I live in Louisiana. Can I get there from here???? Ha.

  53. Ok, I want all the roosters and that chair. I think that is a pretty good price for that chair. So add me up and include delivery and i will take out the money out of my ( No more furniture fund. ) lol. Mishelle

  54. Hello Susan, my favorite post!! Flea Friday:) Always.. there are things I would snatch up and buy in a second and then go ‘where am I going to put this’?? Because I don’t have a blog I am going to have to post my finds from MY consignment store on my RMS post one of these (FRI)-days and have you redirect your followers such as (me);) to my space to have a DUEL for bargain finding. I will get it ready…you let me know what Friday we could do it. I could always mail the pics to you and just have it on your blog. I think it may have to be the Friday Nov 7th or later. Up for it?? Let me know…and thanks for the shopping tease, Hugs, Jan

Susan I sooo love your trips to the classy flea!! It’s a wonderful kind of torture! You have such a great eye for bargains!I would have snapped up that silver serving platter in a red hot minute! And the bunny plate was adorable!! But girlfriend you know me so well *winks* That book had my name written ALL over it!! Lol!! Any chance you could pick it up for me on your next trip? I MUST have it!! Your urn is sooo cool! I would remove the faux and add a real ivy topiary. Just an idea. And you scored on both of your choices! The bunny tureen was a steal at $4!! Color me a mossy green! *winks* And thank you for taking us all shopping with you!! Vanna

Jan, Great idea! You could send your pics to me AND do an RMS posting, too, if you wanted to. I’d love to post them here! You can just send me your pics with any comments you’d like posted under them. I’d love to post your great finds! What fun!!! 🙂 My email is: [email protected]

  57. Glenn from A Classy Flea says

Hi Susan (and everyone else that reads this wonderful blog!),
I want to let everyone know that A Classy Flea has our annual Open House during the weekend of November 7 – 9. Everything in the store is 20% off the lowest price marked. If you ever NEEDED an excuse to make the trip to the store everyone’s talking about, thanks to Susan, the weekend after next is the perfect one. Hope to see everyone here!

  58. Obviously I’ve been sick. I would have never missed a Classy Flea Fri. if I hadn’t had “flu brain”! Susan, I hate to say this, but you just need to go back and buy that beautiful bunny plate. It is SO unique and so “you”. I can just imagine all of the wonderful tablescapes you’d create around it. I’m savings the picts. of the chest in case I ever decide to tackle that. What a good look it is and it really doesn’t look that difficult. Another fun Fri Flea (of course, I didn’t get there until Sat!) laurie

  59. P.S. I love your urn and right now, I’d put a pumpkin on top, maybe one of those white ones with stenciling on it. One of the blogs showed one with just a stencil of their last name letter. It looked so pretty. laurie

  60. Oh my goodness…we have to pick a favorite??? I loved the sette. loved the tureen (can just see it in one of your tablescapes)!!!, there were too many things to pick from to have a favorite!! Love these tours of the FLEA!!! Thanks again! Pinky

  61. Cami @ Creating Myself says

Love the terrarium….what a great buy! I'd have walked out w/ the dancer & the terrarium, for sure!

I see you have decided to take the flowers out of the urn (I concur)…what about filling it up w/ folded white napkins w/ lace details? It'd be functional & beautiful

  62. OK this week didn't cost me hardly anything. The turkey platter 19.95,bunnie plate29.00,two books 9.95 & 7.95 that is less than $60 Wow! I did really well this week, don't you think? I love the urn!!! No fake flowers for this beauty, I would put green reindeer moss in the bottom and fill it with small white pumpkins topped with a clear glass bell cloche OR moss fall leaves making a ring and a great big white or frenc blue pumpkin. I actually have something similar on my kitchen dinette table. Now I can't wait to see what you will do!! xo Kathysue

  63. I gave that urn with the rose flowers to my mom one Christmas or Birthday. I bought it at Pier One and it was around $50-60. I thought it was overpriced, but she loves pink roses so much I had to just do it. If it were me I’d agree with you and take the flowers out. Is it waterproof? Maybe float a candle in it? Myabe put some rocks or seashells in it and then a candle in the middle? How about in the bathroom with a sea sponge and soap in it? You probably have already found it a great spot, but I bet it moves around a bit because it is pretty darn neat.

  64. It is extremely interesting for me to read that article. Thanks for it. I like such topics and anything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read more on that blog soon.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
