Beautiful, Vintage, Copeland Spode Tower in a Springtime Tablescape

Welcome to the 106th Tablescape Thursday! How was your day? Are you looking forward to a nice long Labor Day weekend? Any cookouts planned? I hope whatever you do…it’s fun and relaxing. Enjoy these last treasured days of summer. I’m almost in the mood for fall…but not quite. With temps still in the 90s in Georgia and the blessing of low humidity, I’m still tablescaping out on the porch.

This week I’m using a china I’ve never used on the porch before…well, at least not for Tablescape Thursday. I set the table with Copeland Spode, Tower and I really had no idea what I’d be using for a centerpiece.

On a recent trip to Publix Supermarket, I came across some lovely roses and thought I’d place a single rose at each place setting. Also, I spotted some sweet daisies and bought them with plans to use them in last week’s Lemonade Days Table Setting post. Once home, my plans completely changed. Does that ever happen to you?   I ended up using an urn I bought a long time ago in a local thrift store to create a little arrangement.  Hope you enjoy!

Summer Table Setting Tablescape with Roses and Daisies Centerpiece

The dishware in this table setting, Copeland Spode, Tower, is vintage and dates back to the 1920s.

I combined the roses and daisies with Creeping Jenny I had grown in urns out on the deck.

I love the color combination of the bright green Creeping Jenny with the pink roses and sweet daisies.

Dishware is Copeland Spode and the pattern is, Tower.  This vintage china has the old, oval Copeland Spode hallmark dating it back to the 1920’s.

Four place settings have vintage ruby stemware for the iced beverage. Since I only have four of those, I mixed in two pieces of Waterford, Araglin. The wine glasses are Waterford, Crimson Hock. Salt cellars are ruby flash, also.

I’m gradually collecting monogrammed sterling napkin rings. It’s kind of hard to find them with an H monogram. But isn’t that the fun part…the hunt?

Since I only have three so far, I used a fun napkin fold for the flatware at three of the settings. Would you be interested in knowing how this fold is made? If so, I’ll do a post showing how to create it.  Update: Napkin Fold can be found here: Pocket Napkin Fold

Time for a little candlelight. I’ll hush now and just let you enjoy.

  18. Oh I love Spode SO much!!!! I have been lusting after it for years. Unfortunately, my husband, who is English, cannot stand the stuff. He says it reminds him of old ladies houses. I try to explain that it can be updated but he insists that it is all about old ladies who sit around and drink tea – haha. I am still working on him though…

  51. A Toile Tale says

    Linda

  52. Fifi Flowers says

    GORGEOUS dishes!!!

  53. Marianne@Songbird says

Ok Susan I have to ask. Did you actually have people come over for diner and did you eat at that table or was the table only set up for these gorgeous display purpose? I ask because there is so much China on the table and with that gorgeous centerpiece (and yes daisies and roses go together you proved that) there would be no room for food and people couldn't see it each other.
I love doing a little tablescape and I am strictly amateur but when I see a truly beautiful one like yours I can't help wondering " do people actually eat there and sit at that table?"
Thank you in advance for letting me know.
Thank you for the party I think it was my first time ever linking up.

  54. Hi Susan,

I am not a red person but this table has a softness to it. I think the heavy use of white with crystal and the soft centerpiece is such a perfect balance to the strong dinnerware. I think this may be my favorite table you have ever done (that I have seen). It is classic yet feminine and very inviting. Nice job.

    Thank you,
    Judi

  97. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

Judi, I bought those at either Neiman Marcus or Horchow about 4-5 years ago. I think it was Horchow. They are owned by the same company and carry the same stuff, so I always forget which one I ordered them from. They don't have a pattern name that I'm aware of…no markings on them. Sorry I don't have any other info. They were only on the site a short while and I've never seen them on there again. Hopefully one day they will have them or something similar available again.

  98. Oh my! This is one of the prettiest table settings I have ever seen! Beautiful….

  99. Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says

    Thanks, Tracy!

  100. While jumping around reading your different posts today, I found this tablescape. I am in love with this one. It makes me want to run out to Ebay and buy some Spode Red Tower and Ruby Flash. That's what is great about Ebay, you can start a collection immediately. Your iced beverage glasses are fab. I collect brown and blue and white transferware but no red; yet. This red tablescape was my Valentines gift from you. Thanks. It made my day. Happy Valentine's Day to you.
    Marsha

  101. Susan BetweenNapsOnThePorch says

Thanks, Marsha! Happy Valentine's Day to you! Yes, you can definitely find Spode Tower on eBay. It's usually on there in the Blue and White pattern, also. So fun to collect it a little along the way and watch your collection grow.
