A few days ago I shared a cozy update here in the kitchen—an adorable gingham-shade lamp I added to the counter for some cozy, evening lighting. (I closed the shutters for this photo to partially simulate nighttime in the kitchen.) In the comments of that previous post, Elena mentioned that she had a couple of lamps in her kitchen, too. That comment caught my eye because I had been thinking of adding a second lamp at the other end of the counter. When I walk into the kitchen in the evening, since this kitchen doesn’t have working under-cabinet lighting, it can feel quite dark, and I don’t want to turn on the bright, overhead lights at night. After reading Elena’s comment, I decided to go for it and ordered a second lamp. It arrived incredibly fast—in just 2 days. I love how it looks, especially in the evening. So happy to have found these lamps that fit so nicely underneath a cabinet. (Tip: I use EcoSmart light bulbs in the soft-white version. Those stay cool to the touch, so much so, I can place my hand on the bulb after it’s been on for hours.) You’ll find this lamp available here: Small, Gingham Shade Lamp.
When I’m here at the Dollhouse, I keep a running list of those things I need to bring up from the Georgia house. I just added my slow-cooker to the list. With autumn here and winter just a couple of months out, I’m looking forward to making some cozy, comfort food as the cooler temps come in. This is the brand of slow cooker that I have, purchased a few years back. You’ll find it available for a great price here: 7-Quart Crock Pot Slow Cooker. If you prefer one that is programmable, you’ll find that one here: 6-Quart Programmable SlowCooker.
I love timers for lamps, especially in the fall when it gets dark out so early. I purchased a timer for this lamp a while back, it actually came in a set, which was great. I used the other one for the lamp in the Butler’s Pantry.
This is by far the easiest timer I’ve ever used—so easy to set and fast! It’s also easy to override when I want a lamp on for the whole day on those dark, cloudy days. It’s the perfect timer, in my opinion! I just ordered another set to use with the kitchen lamps. You’ll find this awesome timer available in a set of two here: Timers for Lamps.
It’s that time of year! I’ll be making these for my grandsons this week. I can’t wait to see their reactions! It’s so much fun surprising them. You’ll find the easy recipe for these here: Spider Cupcakes. I don’t think these exact spider cupcake holders are still available but you’ll find similar ones here: Spider Cupcake Holder.
If you need a last-minute Halloween decoration, these gigantic, furry spiders are awesome! They were easy to add to my front porch, a super fast way to decorate for Halloween.
Tip: I should have roughed up their legs a bit to make them look even more furry. I didn’t think about it until I had placed them on the porch. So take a few minutes to run your hands backward over the legs to make them extra furry and creepy. Hahaha! You’ll find them available in a lot of different sizes here: Poseable Large Spiders.
Spoiler Alert! I just ordered this chair a couple of days ago. It should arrive toward the beginning of next week. I’ve been really missing having a place to read in the evenings here in the office, and being a lover of birds, I fell for this design. I especially like the lower arms, I think that will make this chair even more comfortable for reading.
Here’s a close-up of the fabric. The price is incredibly reasonable and the reviews looked good. I hope it works out here in the office! If it does, I may order a second one. You’ll find it available in 5 different color patterns here: Reading Chair for Bird Lovers.
Today is the last day of Talbot’s Friends and Family sale, one of their best sales of the year. The sale is 40% off any one item and 30% off everything else. You’ll find the sale here: Talbot’s Friends and Family Sale. You’ll find some of my favorites in this post: It Has Turned Cold & I’m Craving A Warm, Cozy, Snuggle-Worthy Wardrobe.
See you tomorrow for Tablescape Thursday!
I love that you have fun with your grandsons at Halloween. But since I absolutely hate spiders, I don’t use them in Halloween decor myself. . Too icky for me. I stick with pumpkins. After seeing photos of the squirrels and deer feasting on the Jack o’lanterns my daughter and son-in-law carved this year, I will keep using my fake ones, too!
I love the chair and the pattern. It’s going to look so good in your office. It reminds me of an Ethan Allen pattern I had back in the 70’s only the colors were more gold and green WAY back then! Your grandsons are so lucky to get so many fun surprises. It’s so great they are close by. I do like all the lamps too. I love timers. I put the outside Halloween/Christmas lights on a timer.
Susan, I love the chair you’ve ordered for your office, your new dining table and chairs, and all your new lamps! I’ve been hesitant to order chairs and sofas online, because when I’m browsing in a furniture store, I definitely find that some chairs are more comfortable to me than others. It may be that they are too squishy, or too firm, or the arms are at the wrong height. Is it a big (expensive) problem to return something large like that if nothing is wrong with it, except that it doesn’t suit your needs? Thanks!
Thanks, Diane! I’ve never returned anything really big to HomeDepot, but I think the chair is small enough that it will fit in the back of my SUV if I have to return it that way. They probably offer a pickup if there’s some reason you need to return it, but I’m not sure. I hope I like it, keeping my fingers crossed that it works out.
Really like your beautiful new chair – hope it’s comfy for you. The second lamp just looks great – extra ambient lighting for the win! Cupcakes – oh my your grands are going to gobble them right up! Such cut holders, love the festive vibe.
And your front door is decorated perfectly!!! Trick or Treat!!!! Fun times.
That chair and the fabric is very nice and fits in with the blues in the dollhouse. Can’t wait to see it. Is Home Depot selling chairs or using 3rd party vendors like Walmart ?
Is the red door in the photo the dollhouse or the house in Georgia ?
Are you decorating the mantle in the dollhouse for fall?
Thanks! I like how the fabric/print is somewhat faded, kind of an antique, washed look. That’s the Georgia house a few years back. No, there’s no furniture in the living room, so I don’t plan to decorate the mantel since I’m never in that room. I’m not sure if they used 3rd party vendors or not.
I’ve had lamps thru out my house for years. Don’t like a totally dark house but don’t want bright overhead lights on during night. The chair will be beautiful in your office. Sweet of you to surprise the grands and spoil them.
Thanks, Nancy! ♥ I do love surprising them, their reactions are always so fun!
I love the spider cupcake holders! I love lamps.
I was just wondering what watt EcoSmart bulb do you use in the lamps on the kitchen counter? I am loving the idea of extra touches of light in the kitchen.
These are the ones I have in the small lamps on the counter.
I buy the 75w and 100w EcoSmart bulbs in Soft White for use in larger lamps.
