A Visit To The Brand New Centurion Lounge in Atlanta, Plus, A Few Porch Updates

This has been a busy, crazy week. I had a quick trip to visit family in Ohio, and I just returned home on Tuesday. One of the cool things that happened on that trip is I had the opportunity to visit the brand new American Express Centurion Lounge that just opened up a few weeks ago in Atlanta. I had read so many good things about it online, so I was excited to experience it in person. The new Atlanta lounge is the 28th Centurion lounge in the world and is also, the largest.

As you pass through the door into the lounge, this is your first view—an entire wall of plants. I don’t think the plants are real, but they give you that relaxed feeling of being surrounded by nature. The wall of plants was inspired by Atlanta’s nickname, “the city in the forest.” Stepping inside the lounge definitely feels like you’re entering into another world as you close the door and leave the hectic, fast pace activity of the airport behind.

The decor is very creative, I really liked this wall of suitcases surrounding a large TV. There were people in all the many areas of the lounge, but it was not crowded at all, like the Delta lounges always are that I’ve frequented in the past. I love how large the Centurion lounge is and love all the different “rooms” throughout.

There are tons of seating all throughout the lounge.

One of the most beautiful parts of the lounge is this wonderful, 50-year-old Olive tree that’s here in the center of one of the largest rooms. Hanging above this area, you’ll see almost 4,000 square feet of custom lighting that’s been designed to look like floating leaves. It’s so pretty in person, photos really don’t covey how pretty it is.

There are 3 outdoor terraces, including one that overlooks a runway. The ceiling is really beautiful, as you can see in these photos. After having a nice meal inside, this was the area I enjoyed the most during my visit. I never had anything to drink other than water, but I read that adult beverages are available at no charge.

I love all the greenery, it is such a completely different experience from any airport lounge I have ever visited. This area is also heated, so I guess it could be enjoyed in the fall and early spring. Not sure how warm it will be during the wintertime, though. It took them a long, long time, but I’m so glad American Express finally opened a Centurion Lounge here in the busiest airport in the world.

Ever since I returned from visiting family, I’ve been hard at work cleaning the screened porch and readying it for summer.

Getting the Porch Ready for Spring and Summer

I had the decks cleaned and while those were being done, they also washed my porch furniture. I wish they could have washed the swing, you can see how dirty it is in the photos below except for where the seat cushion is normally. I didn’t want to attempt unscrewing the mechanism that attaches it to the chains, so I did what I always do this time of year, I spread a bunch of towels on the porch floor, and using my favorite cleaner (available HERE) mixed with water, I scrubbed it down with a brush, then gave it a good rinse. It came out looking great, I’ll share a photo soon of the porch all put back together.

Cleaning the Porch Swing

You may remember that normally I have covers over the chains of the swing. I usually remove them when I clean the porch at the start of spring, but after being on the porch for so many years, it was time to replace them. The fabric was really worn and tearing in spots as I removed them.

The old covers snapped together allllll the way down with a gazillion snaps, so removing them for washing and reinstalling them afterward took a lot of patience and time. I purchased a bunch of new covers to try and these were the ones I liked the best. So many of the covers I purchased were really stiff and the Velcro that held them closed was really wide, so they looked awkward and bulky on the swing. These were softer and the Velcro was more narrow, so they were my favorite. I’ll be sharing a photo of how they looked on the swing real soon. I’m very please with how easy they were to install over the chains. Since they are held closed with Velcro, the process went fast! (Swing chain covers are available here: Covers.)

How is your spring-cleaning going? Thankfully, pollen season is mostly behind us here, but the pollen is definitely worth it for all the beautiful flowers and leafed-out trees!

It is a huge job!! Still facing it…think we must have close to a half inch of pollen…incredible!! Keep up the good work!! franki

  2. Wow, not what I think of when I think of an airport lounge area. But then again, I don’ t have any experiences with airport lounges. LOL I’ve only flown twice and we didn’t go into any airport lounges. The American Express Lounge is so beautiful, I love how it makes you feel like you are apart of nature. And that suitcase wall with the TV in the center…love that! What a job pollen season is, especially on a screened in deck. Since I don’t have one, I have just a patio….the power washer comes out and does the job. I don’t envy you all that pollen cleaning on your porch, but at the same time I do because it is such a beautiful outdoor space! Which I’m sure just makes you appreciate it all the more after a good cleaning to get rid of that pollen. Your furniture always cleans up so nicely and the pollen is always a thing of the past once again. Enjoy Susan! Your hard labor has paid off! Hugs, Brenda

  3. My husband always did it but he’s 83 now & just too hard. Where did you find someone to clean? The man we asked never showed up. Hard to find anyone that wants to work anymore! I did just order the cleaner you recommended.
Do you have to have the Am.Exp. ultra card to go in the lounge? Looks really nice.

  4. Centurion Lounge is beautiful. I saw “drip lines” in the planter boxes in the lounge so I’m inclined to think all the greenery is real. Here in Virginia we have had much heaver pollen than usual. Cleaning your porch is a big job but you always make it look beautiful.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
