A few days ago I came across these adorable floral sneakers. They are available in three colors, and I think I’m going for the pink, although I love the blue, too.

They are also available in white, which really shows off the flowers.

I love the blue, too! Argh—tough decision, but I’m pretty sure I’m going with the pink. If I like them as much as I think I will, I’m going back for the blue, too. If you love gardening and need a pair of these, you’ll find them available here: Floral Sneakers. Update: Just found these available here for a better price: Floral Sneakers.

I have a great sale to share with you, but before we get to that, I wanted to share one of my favorite styles in a linen dress. Have you ever tried a linen dress in this “shift” style? The first time I ever tried one on, I was amazed at how flattering it was. I tend to be smaller up top and larger on the bottom, and this shift style works great on my body.

Two reasons make the linen shift dress a flattering style for so many figures: 1. Linen doesn’t cling to the body like synthetic (polyester, spandex, nylon, acrylic, etc.) fabrics tend to do, AND 2. The shift-style. dress hangs vertically, sort of skirting over the body, yet it has shape and doesn’t look like you’re wearing a sack. The shape tends to draw the eye downward, creating a smoother silhouette, and you can’t find another fabric that’s as cool and comfortable as quality linen. Another feature I LOVE about quality linen is that it washes beautifully on the delicate or handwash cycle in most washing machines. I usually wash my linen dresses by hand in cold water, but recently I used the “handwash” cycle on my Speed Queen and my linen dress came out looking great. I always hang mine to dry, and since they are made of breathable linen, they typically dry overnight.

Linen sometimes gets a bad rap because it needs ironing after washing. I keep my ironing board set up full-time during the spring/summer months since almost all of my spring and summer clothes are cotton or linen. It takes me about 3-4 minutes to iron a linen dress, and the comfort I feel while wearing linen makes it a thousand times worth it. Quality linen does wrinkle a bit while wearing, but that’s how you know it’s good linen. It would be weird if it didn’t wrinkle. Those who appreciate quality clothing/fabrics will appreciate that you’re wearing linen and think nothing of a wrinkle or two. I would be thrilled living in a climate where I wore linen every single day of the week; it’s that comfortable!
I try to add one new linen dress to my wardrobe each year, and this year I’m eyeing this one in this beautiful soft pink color. It’s not on sale, but considering how many years I’ll be wearing it, I don’t mind. I rarely see these dresses go on sale, but sometimes there’s a discount when signing up for emails. You’ll find this pretty linen dress available here in three colors here: Linen Dress.

Okay, let’s check out the sales! This charming shirt featuring all the great sites around London is currently on sale 50% off with another 20% off, making it just $31.99. I love the color, such a fun shirt for summer! You’ll find it on sale here: Scenic Shirt Celebrating London.

Love the embroidery on this pretty blue and white top. It reminds me of beautiful Delft china. You’ll find it on sale 40% off here: Embroidered Ruffle Neck Shirt on sale 40% off.

This shirt is also on sale and apparently a huge seller from the info I found online. It comes in a bunch of different colors and I love the eyelet seashell design! You’ll find it on sale here: Summer top with Eyelet Shell Design.

I’m always drawn to floral tops, and this one caught my eye with its pretty contrasting placket. Love those little details so much! This top was originally $94.50 but with the sale, it’s only $34.99! Such a great sale! You’ll find on sale here: Floral Shirt with Contrasting Collar.

This beautiful linen shirt is currently on sale for 40% off and is available in 5 colors. This style shirt is perfect for summer because when you are out in direct sun, you can keep the sleeves down for sun protection on your arm, then roll the sleeves up when in shade or inside. And no matter if the sleeves are up or down, linen is beautifully breathable and the coolest fabric you’ll find for hot, muggy summers. This pretty aqua blue color is my favorite, although I love the sunkissed coral color, too! You’ll find it on sale in 5 beautiful colors here: Linen Shirt with easy roll-up sleeves.

You’ll find everything that’s available in this awesome sale on sale here: Sale on Sale, Many 60% with additional discounts! Happy Shopping!

I got the blue embroidered shoes when they first came out. Really like them. They wash up well too.
Oh, good to know! I love how they look!
Susan, I hear what you’re saying about linen wrinkling which is exactly the reason I despise it! I do have several summer dresses that are very attractive and I always get compliments but boy oh boy do I hate to iron them. And I don’t find linen any cooler than Cotten, hot is hot!
I find it depends on the thickness of the cotton. Cotton beats synthetic fabrics all day long, but if it’s thick, I find it a lot hotter than linen. I wouldn’t have survived in Egypt if it weren’t for my linen tops. I made the mistake of wearing white denim jeans and that was the hottest I’ve ever been in my life! Thankfully, I was wearing long-sleeve linen tops.
I’ve told this story on the blog before: I was shopping in my local Talbots many years ago, around my early 40s, and I purchased two linen suits. I still have those suits and love them, although they are a big too small for me now. If I lose 15 lbs, I could wear them today and they would very much still be in style. I wore one to my son’s high school graduation.
Anyway, as I was buying the suits, I asked the sales associate if they would wrinkle since they were linen. She looked at me like I had three heads and schooled me quickly, saying that the finest linen always wrinkles. The tags in those two suits indicated that they are made of Irish Linen. Have no idea if that’s the finest linen, but they still look new and they were worn a lot.

In the 1940’s or early 1950’s, my mother bought three linen dresses in what I called jelly bean colors to wear during Easter. That was my first linen experience. But, no, not ironing clothes. Right now it’s so hot and so humid, not sure what would be comfortable. Glad to hear American cotton is coming back.
BTW Cute shoes!
I love all my linen shirts and pants. That TB dress is SO cute! I have a $50 award that I may just have to use for that shift (I bought a bathing suit in Jan from TB that I really like). I just let a Talbots award expire, but that eyelet t-shirt is also calling my name. Thanks, Susan, for the bad good influence!
Ha, thanks Rita! Unfortunately, I let mine expire too…regretting that now. Argh.
Yes Darlin’, linen wrinkles. . . but that’s how you know it’s linen and not her cousin Polly-ester!!
🙂
I bought that lovely aqua linen shirt last year and love it!
I’ve found really cute floral shirts at BloomChic recently. They were reasonably priced and the fit is good. You might want to check them out.
