Think all dorm rooms are the same? Not if your Maximilian Sinsteden’s, age 21, and attending Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. If my Dad had allowed me to live on campus (which he didn’t) THIS is the dorm room I would have wanted…well, minus the neck ties.
Drew Campus in Madison, New Jersey, is a beautiful campus if this pic is any indication.
After Max’s first year of college he interned for his mentor, Charlotte Moss. About Max, she said, “Max has a gift and a great eye, combined with raw energy and enthusiasm.”
This may be the only “dorm room” looking spot in Max’s room.
I adore the green paint color he chose for his walls…it’s Ralph Lauren’s Tapestry Green.
I see my favorite “decorating” book of all time…An Affair with a House by Bunny Williams.
No matter how small your home or space, Max has shown us it can exude warmth and style. No excuses, now. 🙂

Susan, That is my kind of dorm room. Although my cousin's daughter Hannah had a pretty darn cute room. She searched at Thrift stores and flea markets all summer and found the cutest things. I hope that Jody got pix of it – it should have been in a magazine. ~ Robyn
Looks better than my house. Sigh.
He's so talented! I didn't think students were allowed to paint dorm rooms! ☺
Who is this Max. Can we bottle him. I sure could use his talent. Wow he did a fantastic job. Job is not the right word, his creation is fantasic…. Sharon
Dear Susan,
Enjoyed this post.
It's something what some people can do to make their space so homey.
Once we came across a booth at the State Fair and these people had turned it into a miniature apartment. It was something to see. Wish I had had my camera.
Blessings,
d
well, my dorm room certainly did not look like that! Goodnes I want to live there! ; )
Pretty amazing. That green is great. I'm surprsied they let him paint a dorm room. Or maybe they didn't…might not be getting that security deposit back!

All I can say is wow. Really homely looking.
So cosy!!
Isn't that hard to study in this beautiful room? Maybe too beautiful to study!
A great post,
Greet
Hi Susan,
Beautiful dorm room, what great style he has! I had to laugh though, I thought the part that looked like a dorm room was all the liquor displayed on that tray! College kids love to show off their liquor! Cindy
What a fantastic dorm room! Very ivy-league looking. And great inspiration for a sophisticated boy's room. You know, sans the liquor. 😉
cool ideas…love the neckties for curtains..
What a great space! Quite different from most dorm rooms.
Now that is a dorm room. Such style. I'd love to have those carpets he had on the floor!
Well, about all you can say is Wow!!! Hugs, Marty
I remember when I went with my daughter to visit the ASU dorms. No Painting, you will use this furniture, etc. Which equalled no creativity. Such as shame.
I'm going to write down this paint color for my office. Love, love, love this room.
If this is how his dorm room looks like…I can only imagine how his house is going to look like. I'll forward this to my daughter in college. It might inspire her to make up her bed!!
Susan, Max is clearly a talented decorator. I was a little (a lot) put off by the bar set up in his room though…unless he was a grad student, dorms do not allow alcohol on the premises. Having on daughter finished with college, one in her second year, and one graduating high school this year, I have become pretty familiar with dorm rooms. I wish that they were allowed to paint their rooms, but they are not. I have to say, though, that I really like Max's style!
♥, Susan
In what world can you paint a dorm room?!?! When I was in college you could barely use sticky tack. And the bar? That much liquor in a dorm room (especially if he's a minor) would get him thrown out for good! All the practicalities aside though- it is an awesome room!
That is one gorgeous dorm room!! Love it – such style!
~Kathleen
My goodness! My kids weren't allowed to paint, or put nails in the walls at their schools. It will be interesting to see where that young man ends up.

Hi, Susan, if you have not seen the Sept. issue of Southern Living, you must get it & check out pages 38/39 for a fireplace/arched built-ins pic and story. REminds me of your new finds & you just might get some ideas from it. I thought of you instantly! 🙂
That must have been my problem, I had cases of Rolling Rock under the bed, not hard liquor on a pretty tray.
Seriously though, the school would have allowed us to do any of that stuff. No painting the walls or nails in them, none of our own furniture, etc. I guess that is what I get for going to public school!
I love that green wall color too, Susan!…Christine
Wow! Hard to believe that is a dorm room! And I thought I decorated my dorm room when I moved in! laurie
My room never looked like this! What a talented guy!
Jane (artfully graced)
What a talented kid! My bedroom ispainted the same color. His pink pants just add even more interest to the whole visual!
This would have been my dorm room and I would have gotten beaten up.
When I was twelve, my Mom took me to the furniture store and was told I could pick out any bedroom furniture I wanted. I picked a Mahogany Rice bed by Baker. The sales lady said "Boys don't get furniture like that!" My Mom said "deliver it today, this boy does". I say, it pays to know what you like early!
