Greetings, dear Friends! I’m back home from a fun, exciting week in Kenya. It will take me a while to get through all the photos I took, but I can’t wait to share them with you. I caught some exciting footage of the migration and I’ll be sharing it soon.
In the meantime I’ve uploaded a couple of more videos that were shot while I was staying at Giraffe Manor.
In the first video below, I’m visiting the Giraffe Center which is just across the front lawn from Giraffe Manor. To view these videos in a larger format at YouTube, click on the YouTube symbol on each video. I think they’re much more fun to watch there since you can see them better.
In this second video, I’m having breakfast with Daisy in the breakfast room at Giraffe Manor.
Since I chose a supposedly “free” song to use in this video, YouTube stuck an ad on top of it. Just click the “X” to make it go away.
You’re having way too much fun!! You go girl!!
Thanks, Pam…it’s was so much fun! I’m ready to go back!
How fun!
Great video of Breakfast with Daisy!
Thanks, Sonia!
Oh, my!!! What fun. I am so glad that you are home safe and sound and that you ad a magnificent adventure!
Thanks, Debbie! XX
Wow, that went fast! Hope you had a fantastic time, looking forward to more pictures!
Thanks, Dawn! It did go fast…way too fast!
Oh what fun you have had. Loved seeing your pictures and videos. Glad you made it home safe.
Thanks, Ann!
How fun! Looks like Daisy is the only one getting any Breakfast! It looks like her tongue rolls up when she eats. So glad you are home and had a wonderful trip!
lol I didn’t want to stop long enough to eat, but I eventually did. 🙂
What an amazing experience! I’m envious as I have Africa and Giraffe Manor on my “bucket list.” When you have a chance, do check out the book, “Tall Blondes: A Book About Giraffes,” by Lynn Sherr. She writes about Giraffe Manor along with much more concerning this wonderful animal. Giraffes are a favorite of mine.
Thanks, Suzanne! You must go, it’s worth the long plane ride(s)! Thanks for the book tip!
A full plate of fun with a side of stinky. I love all animals, and they all smell.
Looks like a great trip.
No stinky, just all fun!
I would not have wanted to leave! I loved your videos. What a fabulous and memorable adventure. Glad you are safely back home and looking forward to more of your pics!
Big Texas Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
Thanks, Susan! 🙂
Oh, my goodness!!! This is just too dang cute! You could bring one home and it could look in your upstairs bedroom windows and live in the house when it gets cold!!! I know you had a wonderful time. I am glad that you got home safely. I hope you get some rest and don’t have too much jet lag.
lol I know my neighbors would love that! 🙂 Amazingly, I didn’t have any jet lag going or coming. I thought I would but despite not getting a lot of sleep on the planes, I felt fine while there.
So much fun! One thing off your bucket list!
One day, a billion to go! 😉
That’s amazing!! Had no idea a place like this exists!! They are so gentle!
Thank you for the videos they were great Susan. Glad you made it home looks like you had fun.Get some rest now.lol
These are great!
I would have been afraid I would have been bitten. You are brave!
Nah, they are sweeties, although a couple are known to give head butts. lol
Oh my goodness……….this looks like so much fun! The giraffe’s are adorable. I love the way they eat! I had no idea such a place existed. I can’t wait to see all your other pictures.
Susan, these videos are adorable and priceless. I’m so happy you got to go on this amazing safari. I need to put this on my travel list. Love this!
Thanks, Sarah! Yes, definitely one for the bucket list!
That Daisy is one cute giraffe, Susan!! What a wonderful experience — can’t wait to hear about the rest of your trip!
Hugs,
Denise
I let out a holler! Whew baby look at that big baby! That had to be loads of fun, I don’t know if I could be so quiet!
lol So glad you enjoyed that, they are a hoot, Jan…so much fun!
what fun! But I want to see the video of what Daisy did when you ran out of treats???!!!???? 🙂
lol They just leave and go peer in another window either downstairs or up, wherever they see someone with treats in hand.
I cannot imagine anything more fun than having breakfast with giraffes, Susan! Good for you 🙂
Giraffes in action! Videos were great and love the song you picked.
Oh, Susan, what a delightful breakfast companion: sweet, sweet face and beautiful, warm eyes! Thank you for sharing this. I can’t wait to show these videos to my grandchildren! They will squeal with delight: they’ve only seen giraffes in zoos! No on to the next adventure…….. Rosie
I had the goofiest smile on my face watching these videos Susan. So freakin cute! How are you ever going to top this experience??
Susan, so glad you were able to take this adventure. (And take us along with you!) I thought we might not hear from you until tomorrow for TT because I figured you might have to sleep for a day or two to catch up, lol. So glad you had as much fun as you did. You looked great in the pictures, btw. It was easy to see how much you were enjoying yourself. Exciting enterprises such as this get our blood flowing and our energy up and make us feel alive and young again, don’t they?
Eventually, when you are well settled again, I hope you’ll let us know how all your preparations worked out, in reality. I know how limited you were in what you could bring, but it seems you did well.
Btw, when I first heard the song on that last video I recognized it as Randy Newman and immediately thought it was “Short People,” lol. That would have been apropos, too. 😀 But I love the Woody and Buzz friendship them song. 😀
Well, now that you’re a world class jet setter and experienced Safari – ist, I hope being home again won’t seem too pedestrian. Of course, you’ll be off on that cruise in no time, so there’s really no time to get bored!
OMGoodness!! You got to sleep in Daisy’s room and meet her?? SO very jealous and happy that you had such an amazing adventure!!
Wonderful videos – what fun ! I’m with Pam – can’t wait to hear all about the rest of your trip and if your preparations (things you brought with, etc) all worked out as you had hoped. Great trip … thanks for sharing with us !
OMG, what a treat to see these videos! The giraffes are so sweet and gentle, and how many people can say they had a meal with several of them? I know you had the best time. Glad you made it home safely and looking forward to all the pics. Hugs!
Love, love these videos! You are just as cute as those giraffes. I’m sure you had a wonderful time on your adventure. Can’t wait to hear all about it. Details, details, details please. Vikki in Va.
Giraffe motif themed storage boxes on sale this week at Hobby Lobby online in Decor/storage section.
Those are soo cute! I just bought some giraffe chargers this evening…to go with giraffe glasses I purchased at the manor. 🙂
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful videos! What a fabulous adventure you had, & it’s been a delight to see your pix & videos. I showed my 5-yr-old grandson the Daisy video, & he after giggling, he turned to me & said, “now, Nana, I want to go to Africa where the giraffes come into the dining room!”
His parents, who are paying for private school, may need a bigger budget!
Merri Jo, that is sooo cute! 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us! By the way, did you travel alone?
Yes…but never felt alone. Met some delightful folks along the way.
Love the videos! Sounds like a wonderful trip and looking forward to seeing more pics and hearing more about the trip. Glad you had a safe trip home.
Get some rest and let your body recover from the jet lag.
Hi Susan! What a wonderful time for you and so glad you were able to go on this trip of a lifetime. I couldn’t help but notice your hair. Have you changed your haircolor? You look fabulous!
Thanks, Julia! A few months ago I goofed and darkened it way too dark in an attempt to hide the gray. I used a brown that was for “resistant gray hair.” Big, big mistake! When the gray began to show, it showed super fast because it contrasted so much with the darker color. So, I went to a professional a few times and she added tons of lighter highlights. Then I started using a much lighter color. Now the gray doesn’t show near so quickly, so I don’t have to color it so often. Much easier! I was recently thinking it might be too uniformly light and maybe kind of blah with not enough variation. I’ve been toying with the idea of adding a few slightly darker highlights but I may just leave well enough alone since everyone seems to like this color. 🙂
Videos were great! Love those giraffe kisses! 😉
Susan, what I noticed was how darn happy you looked in the photos and video! And yes, your new color really suits you. You looked a bit like Ann Margaret!
Welcome home Susan!! So glad you had a good trip (and so grateful that you brought us along!). Daisy looks like a wonderful dining companion. Can’t wait to hear more about your Kenyan adventure.
Love those giraffe kisses Susan!
Oh Susan, that was so much fun to watch. I can only imagine how much fun it was to live it. How did Daisy know that you were staying in her room? What did she do when you ran out of giraffe treats?
Well, the staff have a saying, “No food, no friendship.” lol So, when you run out of yummy treats, they quietly move on looking to see who still has treats to offer.
What a friend to have. You will never forget a breakfast like that! So fun to see Susan.
What a fun song you included with the video of you feeding the giraffe! That’s amazing to see the giraffes so comfortable around everyone. I’m not so sure I could do the “kisses” part though!
A.maz.ing!!! Loved it!
What a once in a lifetime or maybe twice adventure. Love these videos
Glad you home safe and sound and had such a wonderful adventure. Thanks for sharing with us and I look forward to more.
Jet lag does catch up with you and the mail to go through!!! But it is worth it.
Thanks for sharing Susan -awesome trip and glad you are home safe and sound. We’re back up to Houghton Lake and lovin’ it! It’s not quite Africa, but I’m having fun all the same. lol
WoW–so incredibly AWEsome!
Catherine

I called them treats because I’m not sure what else to call them, but when I asked what they were, I was told they are grasses bound together with molasses.
What a fabulous experience, one I’m sure you’ll never forget! I’ve fed a giraffe by hand before, but it was at a local zoo! I think your experience was for more meaningful and beautiful. I love all the African style decorating books and things you’ve shared. One of my favorite movies is . . . (you know what I’m going to say) Out of Africa.
Congratulations on a fabulous adventure!
Oh, that was just heart tugging!! MADE MY DAY!! franki
Oh, I’m so envious! I read the book, Raising Daisy Rothschild, years ago and have been enamored with giraffes ever since.
