Heirloom Vintage China is the Star of this Beautiful Table Setting in Blue and Gold

Welcome to the 669th Tablescape Thursday, a blog party sharing beautiful table settings for all occasions!

Warren created the loveliest table this year for Mother’s Day! Though it’s long past Mother’s Day now, this table would be perfect for any occasion.

For this special table, Warren brought out beautiful vintage china that was passed down through the family to him and his wife, Kathie. Warren said, “I set a special blue and gold tablescape in homage to mothers, grandmothers, and a great-grandmother. Kathie’s mother, Marie, and my mother, AG, loved to set fancy tables for the holidays. We inherited much of their table decor.”

Warren said, “On today’s table, I have displayed many of these beautiful items. The china, brought back from Germany in 1946, was given to Marie by her husband, Ernie.”

Warren shared a bit more about Ernie who sounds incredible and an inspiration for all of us. Warren said, “Ernie will turn 101 in October and he is a force of nature! He served in WW2 and Korea, was wounded three times in battle, and is the recipient of a Silver Star. When there isn’t snow on the ground, he works with me outdoors handling and processing 10-13 cords of firewood, which we harvest from our forest.”

Warren said, “I set a more formal tablescape in order to display much of this beautiful china.” Warren found the gorgeous peacock napkin rings he used in this setting here: Peacock Napkin Rings.

“The tall vase in the centerpiece belonged to Kathie’s maternal grandmother.”

Blue, Gold Table Centerpiece

“The flared blue goblets, which I am using as wine glasses were collected by Marie. The blue ice tea glasses were collected by AG.”

Cobalt Blue Stemware

“The water pitcher is from my grandmother and the blue candlesticks from my great mother. Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful women who have blessed our lives.”

Thanks so much to Warren and Kathie for sharing this beautiful table setting, created with heirloom china passed down to them through their family. What a lovely way to celebrate a special day like Mother’s Day!

Warren’s table setting is gorgeous! So elegant looking, the blue and gold are pretty together, which surprises me as I’ve always put blue and silver together. But definitely am loving the blue and gold. Beautiful piece for sure! Hugs, Brenda

  4. Beautiful table! That china is gorgeous but the family memories represented here are the best part of the table.

  10. That’s just gorgeous! Blue and white is such a classic color combination, and the history is priceless. Thanks so much for sharing, Warren, Kathie, and Susan!

  11. Kim Nadeau says

I am new to your site – and I am loving it! I have a question – Are the tablescapes ever put out for decoration only? Or perhaps a couple days prior to event? Thank you

    • Hi Kim! Normally I don’t just set them for decoration because I’m usually creating a new one so often for Tablescape Thursday. Back before the recent issues we’ve all been experiencing, I was entertaining more and they were often put to use for a dinner party, but mostly I’m just creating them for Tablescape Thursday now or when family is here visiting. If I’m having a dinner party and have a million things to do (cleaning house, cooking, etc…) I have been known to set the table 3-4 days in advance just so that was done and out of the way. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, I sometimes use a fresh centerpiece, so that has to be done the day of the dinner party so it’s still fresh.

  12. Warren never fails to impress. I love the china and the blue glass. Love that pitcher. I have never seen that one. What is the name of the china ?
Thanks for sharing Warren and Kathy’s table with us Susan. It’s such a shame the younger generation doesn’t love our old stuff.

  13. Cyndi Raines says

Warren, what a beautiful tablescape, the china is awesome, and the family stories are precious. Thank you for sharing Susan. Not only do we love our dishes, but the stories and love that come with them. They are part of the family memories that are so special to us, no wonder we are all dish -aholics!!

  14. Antoinette says

Once again Warren has done a beautiful job putting together a gorgeous table and for thinking of all mothers out there, so thoughtful! And the fact that the various pieces are family heirlooms, it makes it so much more special! Thanks Warren for sharing and for the wonderful stories and thanks Ernie for serving your country, you are truly a hero!

  15. Ernie at 101 and still working like he does?—no wonder we call that the Greatest Generation! What a guy. And the lovely setting with all the cared for pieces just shows this family values their family connections–lovely setting.

  16. Stunning I love it and blue is my favorite color. I would be interested in the maker and how it got here after WW2.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
