Welcome to the 831st Metamorphosis Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! My Before/After this week may seem like a small change, but it has had a nice, positive impact. For several years I have been hoping to replace my ancient keyboard. I’ve always disliked how wide it is. It makes me sit with my right arm canted way out to the right when using my mouse. I was concerned that it would eventually cause me to have shoulder issues.
I would have replaced it ages ago, and actually, I’ve tried to do that a few times over the years, but I always end up going back to my old keyboard that’s backlit and designed where I can easily create shortcuts to the functions and websites that I use so often throughout the day. I really like Logitech products for that reason—the way they offer so many great features and functions.
This past week I decided to search for a new Logitech mouse. I liked the mouse I found so much, I bought its companion keyboard too when I saw that it was a fair amount shorter than my old one. Side note: Several years back, I both emailed and called Logitech to ask if they would consider making a less-wide keyboard. I remember that they did have one available, but it lacked the awesome features of my current keyboard. I even told them I’d be willing to sacrifice having the number keypad built-in on the right side and would be happy to make do with just having the numbers across the top row. I was hoping if enough people asked for that, they would consider making it.
In searching for a new mouse this past week, I discovered Logitech has come out with a much shorter keyboard that still has all the other great features that I use and love, sans the backlit feature. I decided to give it and its coordinating ergonomic mouse a try since I knew I could return them if they didn’t work as I hoped. In the photo below, you can see how much shorter the new keyboard is compared to my old one.
Those few inches really do make a difference in shoulder comfort.
The mouse is very different from my old one but was super easy to get used to right away. The keys and wheel that you normally find on a mouse are still there in the same configuration, they are just located on the side of the mouse instead of the top. So when you place your hand on the mouse in a natural position, your fingers end up in the same place as they would on a regular upright mouse. It just feels a lot more natural and less stressful on the wrist and fingers. That’s a good thing since I occasionally experience arthritis-type symptoms in my hands/fingers and this has helped with that tremendously already.
This photo shows how the hand is positioned when using it. I would not have purchased this mouse if it didn’t have those little programmable buttons on the side just above the thumb. I had those on my previous Logitech mouse and they are perfect for moving forward and backward between photos when I’m choosing pictures for a post. They come in handy for a lot of situations where you need to move forward/backward. I think they are able to be set to do other functions, too. I love, love, love how customizable Logitech keyboards/mice are! I have the scroll wheel set to “paste” when pressed inward, just as I had it on my old mouse. I use that a lot throughout the day!
If you’ve been wishing for a shorter/less wide keyboard with lots of great easily-programmable shortcut functions or would love a more ergonomic mouse, you’ll find the one I am enjoying here: Mouse in 3 Colors, Including Pink AND Combo Set with Mouse and Keyboard. If you prefer the pretty pink keyboard that’s currently out of stock as a “Combo” set, the pink keyboard and pink mouse can be purchased individually here: Pink Keyboard AND Pink Mouse. I love the pink color so much, unfortunately, it wouldn’t work well with the colors I currently have on my desk. I’m tempted to get it anyway as a backup because the color is wonderful! Also, both the mouse and keyboard are available in a pretty off-white color at the links above.
Looking forward to all the wonderful Before and Afters linked for this week’s Met Monday! Pssst: Did you know Between Naps On The Porch is on Instagram? Susan, are the keyboard letters and numbers raised ?. After getting used to a flat keyboard, the raised seemed awkward.
Hope you had a delightful first Christmas in the dollhouse this year.
Happy New Year
There are two little feet on the back/underside that can be used to tilt the keyboard upward in back, if someone likes that position. But I noticed when I have those down and my hands are resting on the palm rest, my hands are flat, not tilted. So you can have it either way with this keyboard. That’s how my other Logitech keyboard functioned, as well.
Happy New Year, Myrna!
That’s not what I meant. Are the keys raised on the new keyboard vs flat on the old one ? My old keyboard was like your old one and I found the flatter keys made it easier to type. Sorry for the confusion.
No, I don’t think they are that flat…they are raised a bit.
I love that pink keyboard! How can a girl resist?
Is there a corresponding new mouse available for left-handed people? I might be interested.
I just looked on the actual Logitech website and it doesn’t look like the mouse is available in pink or in white for left-handed people. That stinks. Wonder why they don’t have it availble in that color for those who are left-handed. Arggh. Sorry, Jan.

That’s great, Susan! It’s always so wonderful to find things you like that actually work the way you expect! Congrats on finding it, and thanks for sharing. I’m seriously considering exploring the upright mouse, and I so appreciate your suggestions. Thanks for the party, and hope you have a lovely New Year’s Eve!
WINNER WINNER!! franki
I’ve also been a Logitech girl over the past decade or more. They just do good dependable accessories. Right now I’ve got a wireless keyboard and mouse combo that is working well for me, but I’ll keep this in mind for the future.
I showed my husband the keyboard as he’s my chief computer guy and he said he’d used one for years… what? Now, I want one too. He said they take a little while to get used to but I’d be willing to try. Looks so much easier on hands and I have a lot of finger joint and hand pain due to autoimmune disease. Thanks for sharing your new one. Thanks for having us over. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!!
Thanks so much for hosting this charming party!!! I truly do appreciate it as I do know the time involved with it….I hope you and your family are well and enjoying the Holiday Season
