Snow For Days, A Heated Bed, & So Many Happy Cardinals

How is the weather in your area? I awoke to my lawn service doing their first snow removal process. It was snowing the whole time they were working, so within a few hours, it looked like they had never been here. I think they are coming back for a second time tomorrow.

The city snowplows came through, but the roads are all covered again.

My DIL texted me to let me know that our area is under a Level 3 warning. I think it’s going to stay that way for a while.

This trashcan is a semi-measurement of our snowfall today, although it has snowed more since that photo was taken.

The kitties are loving everyone being trapped at home right now. My grandsons have been over several times the last few days.

Beatrice and Agatha are in love with the heated bed I purchased for them recently. If you have a small dog or cats, they love the warmth of a heated bed this time of year! (Heated pet bed is available here: Heated Bed for Pets.)

I’ve been keeping the feeders filled, and they have been covered up all day long. I sprinkled some birdfood into the top of a trash can lid for the ground feeders. If I sprinkle it on top of the snow, it gets covered pretty quickly since it’s been snowing off and on all day.

I love how many cardinals have been coming to the feeders. In the photo below, there are three in the tree and one at the feeder. They are so beautiful!

I hope you are keeping warm! So far, we haven’t lost power here…so grateful for that! My son and his dad have been stuck in the Dallas airport for the past 3 days. They were on their way to go skiing in Park City, Utah, a trip they’d had planned for a while, when their flight was canceled at the last minute. After wearing the same clothes for three days in a row, I’m sure they are both wishing they had canceled this trip. They’ll only have two days to ski if their flight gets out tonight, so maybe they’ll just head back home when the storm finally passes.

See you tomorrow for Metamorphosis Monday!

  1. OMG, the kittens sleeping on each other!!

    And all the cardinals!!

And grand kids?! Friend, you hit the jackpot.

  2. SharonFromMichigan says

Susan – This storm is a doozy! I’m in southeast Michigan and we’ve accumulated about 5-6 inches so far. We have new snowshoes sitting in the garage that we haven’t been able to use for the past couple years due to not enough snow. Maybe they’ll see some use this year (lol). The sub zero temps are supposed to follow this storm which will make “playing” outside out of the question. Stay inside, stay warm, eat lots of homemade cookies & cocoa!

  3. Well I’m just glad you are at one of your homes and not on the road in between when this hit. Stay safe and warm! Love the cardinals though!

    • This girl stays put when I hear talk of ice and snow. The only thing is, I had planned to head back before now, but there were a few delays. Now, not sure when the roads will be safe for travel. It’s always the mountains through TN that worry me the most.

    The Kitties are ADORABLE!

    • Thanks, Judy! They didn’t want to get out of bed this morning when I got up…and that was after waking me up much earlier. Our sleep schedules still aren’t lining up yet, but they are great mid-afternoon nappers. lol

  5. Can’t speak for cats but I’m loving my electric mattress heater this weekend. ;).

I have one large heated bed and 5 little pet heating pads in the shed for the 6 semi-feral cats I feed and take care of. No heat in the shed so I plugged in a outdoor dog water bowl from Tractor Supply. They have 3 litter boxes. I have an electric blanket on top of my fitted sheet with the flat sheet over it. Several quilts and blankets for me to cuddle under. I turn it on high 15 mins before going to bed and no more shivering. I don’t sleep with it on all night because I wake up parched. I just don’t like the shock of getting into a cold bed and shivering.

  7. Lin from NC says

Toto, you aren’t in Atlanta anymore.
    Peace

  8. Maybe I shouldn’t tell this. We had record heat today about 85° I am really worried about tornados even though it’s early. The heat here meeting frigid weather. This week the temperature dips after the rain tonight getting close to freezing during the night. Our energy company on the east coast goes thru cold states where it’s sleet and snow with trees down. Praying no one loses power. What do your cameras see in Georgia today? Have you heard from Theresa in Texas? I remember her big freeze.
Boy did those babies get adopted by the right person ! So cute. So loved.
    Stay warm everyone.

    • Hi Myrna,
Teresa from Tx…now in warm, blue skies…Kissimmee Florida. Having fun with family and dreading my flight home to Houston. Thank you for thinking of me. Had my fill of snow and dark winter nights living in Canada. Stay warm

      • I replied, but it went to Susan. You must be at Disney, not far away. Lot of flights canceled. Did you replace all of that damaged landscaping from the last freeze?
        Remember- trip insurance.

    • I think Georgia got some freezing rain, which is never good for my magnolia tree. Hopefully, it didn’t break any limbs. I don’t see snow through the Ring there, just icy-looking branches on my Standard Hydrangeas.
Thanks, Myrna! It’s so much fun buying goodies for them because they play with everything and appear to appreciate it all so much.

  9. The picture of the cardinals made me think of those find the hidden object games! At first I only saw two in the tree and then I found the third. lol They are so colorful. Level 3 threat. Run the risk of arrest? Serious stuff. Here it is 39 degrees and that’s cold for me. Nice fire in the wood stove to keep warm. Sounds like you are set as well as B&A. So cute in their new bed. My cat sleeps with me and actually warms me up! Love that the grandsons are in walking distance to you.

    • The female cardinal was a little trickier to spot. Good eyes that you found her! I know. They don’t have to worry about me testing that rule. I don’t like driving in even a little snow. Love that! They are great snuggle bunnies!

  10. Michele M. says

Yes what a storm we had yesterday, Susan! And level 3 – isn’t it something? You must be in shock being from Georgia!! Anyway, I love snow and love winter – but that’s probably most due to not having to drive to work, and having a strong husband who shovels. You are smart to have a service. I wouldn’t be shoveling either. No way. GREAT idea about the trash can lid. As you well know we have many feeders and I have been worried about the ground feeders too – now it’s finally stopped snowing I think we’re ok but I will do that next time b/c it is brilliant. And lastly, oh my word those kittens. They are so adorable in their new heated bed! What a GREAT idea, a heated bed, wow!!! Gosh they’re growing so fast. Glad the grand boys are visiting. ♥♥

    • I’ve seen a few big snowstorms in GA over the years. Every once in a while, we get one that leaves this much snow, but thankfully, it’s rare.
Some snow still falls on the lid, of course, but at least the seed doesn’t get buried so fast into the snow. The birds were really good about picking the seed out of the snow that continued to fall.
Snow is great as long as you don’t have to go out into it. lol That’s the part I don’t like! I was so happy that we never lost power. It sounds like you fared well, too!

  11. We’re in a shut down mode in WNY. Catching up on some tv & cleaning & reading. We know how to pace ourselves since shutdowns are pretty normal. You’ll get used to it….maybe!

    • lol Yes, maybe!
Actually, I do love being home, so shutdowns like this don’t bother me too much. The only thing I’ve really missed is ordering out from my favorite restaurant. I know the restaurants are wanting this shut down to end fast.
Sounds like you are making the best of it and being productive. That’s awesome!

  12. Our heated blanket died the day before the storm hit, so ran out and got the last heated mattress pad. I actually prefer that now.
The movie room must be running in overtime recently; how wonderful to have that available.

    • That is something I don’t have and should really look into getting. Thanks for mentioning that, Mia! I’m going to check those out on Amazon now.
Yup, it’s getting daily visits, but that happens a lot during the week anyway. lol

  13. Carol Norton says

Glad you have snow, Susan. Here in Nashville, it’s turned to ice. We had two kittens years ago that my daughter rescued–she named the fluffy one Beatrice. I informed her it was a male kitty, so I changed the name to Potter. He was a sweetie and lived to be 19. I’m indoor kitty-less for the time being. Stay warm everyone! We’re lucky to not have lost power. My eldest grandson became a Daddy last Friday, and his family made it home in the snow Sat. morning. Lost power Saturday, so his Dad had a generator and they’re all hunkered down at his house. Lots of power outages here in Nashville.

  14. I love the way the kittens snuggle up like that and keep each other warm, but that bed is just .. wow! Wish I had a heated bed right about now, lol.

The scenes at the dollhouse all look so pretty, Susan. Glad you’re snug and warm.

  15. Susan, is it still snowing there? How many inches do far? It might be a two cat night to sleep with you.

I hope that you can open this. Since you love DeWalt tools, these would be perfect for you!!
