A Halloween-Themed Birthday Party Celebration

Welcome to the 580th Tablescape Thursday!

Happy Halloween to you! I had hoped to Trick-or-Treat with my son/dil and grandsons tonight but unfortunately, my cold has gotten worse. I think it’s trying to turn into a sinus infection. Ugh. One of my grandsons had a cold when I first arrived, then my daughter-in-law and I came down with it. I’ll be heading back home in a few days so I need to get better fast so I can make the long drive back home. Hope you are staying well!

Warren, a BNOTP reader whose tables I’ve shared before, recently shared some photos of an awesome table he put together for his brother-in-law’s 60th birthday. Here’s Warren to tell you all about this spooky Halloween/Birthday party.

Warren wrote:

“Recently we celebrated Joe’s 60th birthday with a family dinner party. Joe is my wife Kathie’s baby brother. Since it is the Halloween season I decided that a spooky adult tablescape was called for.”

Halloween Table Setting, 2019

“Our host, sitting at the head of the table, is the “Grim Reaper” holding an alluring, glowing and bubbling pot of gold surrounded by a scattering of gold coins.”

“Scattered around the table were bottles of “poison.”

“The Grim Reaper looked out on a table of orange, gold and black set for twelve additional guests. The ceramic skulls surrounding the gold mercury glass candle holder were illuminated by individual sets of string lights. The black table runner is embossed with faux-velvet spiders, cobwebs and evil pumpkins.”

“The black tapered candles were purchased at Michaels. Interestingly, as they warmed up their color changed from black to dark purple. I wouldn’t purchase them again.”

“The gold-encrusted Hutschenreuther plates have a pretty flower image in the center, which I covered with the black napkins in order to keep the more somber mood of the table.”

“The gold-rimmed wine glasses were from Home Goods. I also found the large gold Artland water glasses at Home Goods, where twelve of them had just been placed on display. I bought the bunch.”

“I discovered the gold and orange beaded napkin rings on extreme markdown in Bed Bath and Beyond.”

“Kathie served broiled salmon with horseradish aioli sauce, asparagus, and mashed potatoes accompanied by too many bottles of Pinot Noir as Joe requested. Joe’s birthday cake was a “to die for” chocolate and caramel laced cheesecake. Not a crumb was left.”

  3. Gorgeous Halloween inspired table.
This isn’t related but I haven’t had a sinus infection in years. I attribute it to taking Chlora-Tabs. Found in Walmart pharmacy dept., around 3 dollars a bottle. I take 2 every morning and 2 at night plus 2000 mg of vitamin C. Best thing I ever did.
Hoping you feel better soon. Deborah

  4. Warren’s table is a fun way to celebrate both Halloween and a 60th. Here’s hoping your cold doesn’t hamper your trip home. It’s a long enough drive when one is feeling well!

  5. Great adult-style Halloween table setting. Well done!

  6. Wow what a fun Halloween/Birthday combo! I totally love those gold goblets -Warren and Kathie and Mr Reaper know how to do it up! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, and I hope you feel better. Maybe the grandkids will share some of their haul tomorrow to help perk you up! Take care!

Oh Susan, I sure hope you feel better soon. I hate that you are missing going treat or treating with your family. I have been fighting a sinus infection myself since I returned from my trip. Wow, what a fabulous table setting! I loved everything. Hugs, Brenda

  9. Well this is a fun table. I especially like the cauldron with the lights and branches!
Sorry your cold has gotten worse. Seems like kids are petri dishes of germs! I hope you’ll be a lot better as you return home.
    Happy Halloween!

  10. Very creative table setting and love the sense of humor as Mr. Reaper being the host of the party .. lol! Thank you Warren for sharing plus the smile, and A HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to Joe. -Brenda-
P.S.: Susan, sorry to hear your are not bouncing back so perhaps if you put on the Ninja Costume( you had planned to wear) it just might be ‘a feeling better antidote’ and just what the Doctored ordered ? ☺ (Picture please if you do.) Sending ‘speedy recovery wishes’ you way.

  11. Feel better, Susan — The table is fun, and the menu sounds wonderful!

  12. Susan, please do feel better soon! I can’t tell you how many Christmases I spent with our loved ones in OH that I came back with a terrible cough that went into bronchitis. Little ones do harbor those germs! Warren does put together some lovely tables! This one is no exception. So festive!

  13. Cyndi Raines says

What a great brother-in -law and sister to throw such an awesome party. Warren did a fine job with that tablescape and the menu has my mouth watering! Sure hope you can go to a clinic up here to get some medicine and get rid of that wicked sinus infection, they are horrible. Hope you can stay until you are fully recovered, no fun driving when you are sick and alone. Get some good rest Susan. Hugs.
