My last home had a great banister for decorating but unfortunately my current home has a short, rather dinky banister, most of which is hidden behind a clock.
If I had a banister, these 12 examples would be high on my list for duplicating.
Hope this post provides lots of inspiration for decorating your banister.

I saved my favorite banister for last. This is how Carol’s banister was decorated for Christmas 2011. Her kitty, Bubba decided to add his own personal touch. You can see additional pics of Bubba enjoying the decorations at Carol’s blog: Our Sears Kit Home
Have a great weekend!
I am really liking the aqua and green bannister a lot. For eye appeal I like the bannister that Joy did. It is really pretty. Unfortunately we don’t have a rail on the other side of the stairway and I am at a point in my life where I have to hang on to the banister for dear life. Simple is better for me, I need to have plenty of room to hang onto the bannister with comfort. I probably should install a rail on the other side. Hmmmm, then I could copy Joy’s beautiful Christmas bannister, Hmmmm.
I do not have a banister but love to see all the lovely decorations. The boxwood garland is jaw-dropping gorgeous! I also love the garland with ribbon.
The kitty is cute. We had a cat once that loved climbing our tree 🙂
I am somewhat new to your blog and I just wanted to encourage you a bit and say thank you for all the beauty you send to your readers. I truly love seeing what you post 🙂
Have a beautiful weekend!
Loved them all but the one with Bubba takes the prize!!! Thanks for sharing. Stay warm it’s cold here with 4 “”of snow.
I would not have thought about using lemons, but now I am jealous that I did not think of it first. All of these are gorgeous. Hope you have a fun weekend. We are going to Afternoon Tea tomorrow. 🙂
Great ideas and inspirations for Christmas banisters, Susan. I love decorating my banister for Christmas.
I would love for you to link and share your holiday posts on Pink Saturdays this month.♥
Oh, I do miss my long and gorgeous banister from our past house! I love all of these Susan, specially the one with the cat…that’s different, lol!
Enjoy this beautiful holiday season, although short for so much decorating and preparing.
FABBY
All of the decorations are gorgeous, but the cat picture has to be the best.
Great post and pix! Big Bubba takes the prize! I love decorating my banister and appreciate these new decorating ideas. Loved the simple one with white ribbon! Thank you, Susan!
I love all of these bannisters! Can not find a favorite because they are all gorgeous. Thank you so much for giving us all these ideas as I am one of those who is forever challenge by decorating and am so overwhelmed I wind up not doing anything. Merry Christmas to all and hope our troops are safe and that they will all come home soon.
IN GOD WE TRUST
Thanks Nenette!
They are all pretty, but gotta love a cat decoration!! 🙂 Now you have made me homesick for my last house Susan, I had a staircase that went up and turned to another one and had great fun decorating it. Alas, am in a one storey now, but I moved because of having to climb those stairs each day. I decorated the front porch railing instead in this house.
I meant to add, the only problem with decorating your banister, is you cannot slide down it in the morning!! 🙂
lol So funny you say that because I almost named this post that! 🙂
Hi Susan…Thanks for this inspiration! I need to get going on mine – so this was a welcome post (as always!)
Have a Merry…
Linda
Glad it was helpful, Linda! Thanks!
I plan on getting faux garlands after Christmas. Beautiful inspiration.
Let’s see…our one story cottage style home has no porch, no mantel, & no inside banister. But if we did, they would all be so decorated. My favorite is Joy’s Bannister Decorated with Garland Adorned with Beautiful Ornaments. Very much like the garland we hang above our fireplace. Susan, thanks again for sharing! Can’t wait to see this Thursday’s Tablescape!
Wow! Beautiful banisters. Of course my fave is the one with the big kitty. And the boxwood is gorgeous. Please remember if you have animals to make sure anything you put out is not poisonness to your animals.
I love all of the banisters. Especially the one with the blue and green ornaments. Thanks for sharing!
the cat motif gets my vote! ;} wish i had a bannister…they seem so Christmasy!!!
m ^..^
🙂 Mine, too!
The house we originally wanted to build had a spiral staircase and oh how I would have loved those decorating options. You couldn’t go wrong with any of these you have shared.
All very beautiful! Being ‘a fabric junkie’, particularly love the use of the Tartan Scarves. -Brenda-
