Is This A Redbud Tree & What I’m Loving In The Talbots Sale That Ends Today

The weather can’t make up its mind here, but the flowering trees and the flowers that are coming up in my garden know that spring is here. I can’t wait until it gets warm and stays warm! Talbots is tempting me with a really good sale right now that’s 40% off any one item and 30% off everything else. I love the colors in this striped top—so fresh and pretty for spring. Vertical stripes can be so flattering/slimming, too.

Here’s a closer view of the soft colors. You’ll find the top on sale here: Stripped Summer Top. The matching shorts are on sale here: Striped Shorts.

For those of us who enjoy bird watching, they have a top for us!

Here’s a close-up of this adorable top, which reminds me, I need to pick up more seed, I’m almost out. You’ll find this adorable top on sale here: Shirt for Bird Lovers.

This may be my favorite thing in the sale…LOVE this bag! The bamboo handle makes me think of Gucci handbags. So pretty!  It’s on sale 40% off here: Wicker Bag with Bamboo Handle.

This pretty green top would look great with blue or white jeans or shorts. I love the color! It’s currently on sale here: Summer Green Top.

Long-sleeve cotton or linen shirts are one of my favorite to wear for summer since they keep the hot sun off your skin, but can easily be rolled up when you’re in the shade. Cotton and linen are so breathable, love that for summer! You’ll find this pretty yellow and white striped cotton shirt on sale here: Striped Long-sleeve Cotton Shirt.

This color! Oh my gosh, this is my favorite color for summer! I have several linen dresses in this color, and love them. This color always makes me think of ocean breezes…so fresh and beachy. You’ll find this pretty linen top on sale in two colors here: Aqua Linen Shirt.

I love the polka-dot coordinating collar and cuffs on this pretty pink shirt. I hope Talbots never stops carrying this style shirt! You’ll find it on sale here: Long-sleeve Cotton Summer Top with Coordinating Collar and Cuffs.

A fun striped tee, perfect for pairing with white shorts or white slacks. You’ll find it on sale here: Summer Striped Tee.

Love this pretty outfit for working out or everyday wear! My daughter-in-law has several tops/jackets with these clever thumbholes that keep the sleeves down and in place. They look like they would help with staying warm on these cooler spring days. You’ll find this jacket on sale here: Jacket with Thumb Holes/Wrist Gaiters. Pants are available here: Pants.

Another great jacket for spring weather…again with the cool thumbholes. You’ll find it on sale here: Aqua Blue Pullover with Thumbholes.

Thanks so much for your help recently in identifying this flower as Helleborus, Lenten Rose! I wonder if I should dig some of it up to plant in the backyard garden where so many plants died due to the severe weed issue that happened back there before I bought this home. Wonder if I should wait until they quit blooming to do that. Fall is typically the best time for planting, but I’d love to have some in the back garden before then. Maybe if I keep them watered, they would do okay. What do you think?

Is this a Redbud Tree? We have trees that look similar to this in Georgia. They grow wild and are often planted in the median, but I’ve never seen one up close—just seen them when driving. I’m guessing this is a Redbud, but not sure, so appreciate your help in identifying it. There’s a row of shrubs growing down one side of my house, and I noticed through the kitchen window today that they are about to bloom. As soon as it stops raining (it’s been raining A LOT!) I’ll take a photo of the shrubs to share. I really hope I have lilacs in the garden somewhere. I’ve always wanted to grow those, they don’t usually do well in our hot Georgia weather.

See you tomorrow for Tablescape Thursday!

  1. Looks like redbud to me. Just remember that Lenten Roses like shade. After they bloom you may find little seedlings coming up, you can put them in pots while they grow or transplant them directly. It will be a few years before they bloom.

  2. Patty Brenner says

Definitely looks like the redbuds that grow wild in Texas 🙂 Some very cute blouses today. I especially like the yellow stripe <3

  3. Hi there, Go ahead and dig up the Lenten Roses now and plant them in a shady spot. I’d cut off any blooms and older real leathery leaves too. Keep them watered, but not too wet, until they are rooted in. I love them. My backyard has naturalized with Hellebores. No more weeds. You should also see baby plants coming up amongst the mature plants. These can be dug up and transplanted also. Or given away to your friends.

Looks like a redbud, they have tiny purplish pink flowers first, then the leaves are decent size and heart shaped. Love the Lenten Rose, maybe I should plant some, I have mostly shade. wonder how long they bloom. Spring is exciting for gardeners for sure.

  5. Linda Wagner says

Yes, I would call that a redbud tree. My mom always said that the redbud was the first tree to bloom in spring.

  6. There is an app called picture this that will identify plants and trees. You go into the app and take a picture with your phone and it instantly identifies the plant. Since moving to a new state, this has helped me numerous times. Hope that helps.

It SURE IS a red bud…aren’t they a vision!! They are blooming all along both sides of the road here & it’s like driving through a fantasy land!! I particularly like the lavendar/pinkish specimens.
    Note to self…do NOT OPEN that “Talbot’s website…oh, my…the “damage I could do”… franki

  8. Mary Beth says

That’s a redbud ~ my mother always wondered why they were called redbud trees and not purplebud trees

  9. Margaret says

There’s a great article by Southern Living on Hellebores – They flower their 2nd year in early spring – usually including “Lent” – The good news is they are usually not bothered by rabbits, rodents or deer. I did notice it says: “Hellebores are highly toxic to humans (if ingested; toxin in the leaves) and pets, and can also cause skin irritation (so you may want to wear gloves).” https://www.southernliving.com/garden/flowers/lenten-rose

  10. I agree with Mildred. Move them in Lenton roses now or early summer. I grew up in Ohio and come back home a few times a year. Most of the advice to plant in the fall is better suited to Georgia.

  11. In Missouri the Red Buds and Forsythia bloom at about the same time with a beautiful display. When my daughter was tiny and riding in her car seat she would point them out as I drove. For the 2 weeks of blooming I heard her saying “Red Buuuuud” and “Poor Cynthia”. One of my favorite memories. Hoping our rain will abate soon and it is possible to work outside. Happy Spring!

  12. Margaret White says

    Definitely a Redbud

  13. Yes, to the chorus of “definitely a red bud.” We have them here in the Finger Lakes region of NY – and, we have lilacs!! I have a huge Miss Kim lilac – it’s so tall it’s almost a tree. When my father-in-law died, one of our friends showed up on our doorstep with this baby lilac, saying, “In my family, we honor our loved ones by planting a tree.” That was more than 20 years ago and that baby lilac is the heart and soul of my front garden.

  14. Yes a Redbud, probably an Eastern Redbud. There are many beautiful varieties available in South Carolina nurseries and they do well in our heat and humidity. Check out Trader Joe’s for hellebores—in years past $10 a container. Good luck with weeds, really bad this year.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
