Since moving into the Dollhouse, I’ve been gradually updating a lot of the things that I need and use every single day. Recently, I shared the repairs and updates I made to this super wide drawer here in the kitchen. I am still crazy in love with the expandable flatware/organizer that I found for it. It drastically improved the functionality of this drawer. (Expandable organizer can be found here: Expandable Flatware Holder and Organizer.)
While the electrician was here yesterday, I had him replace all the bulbs in the recessed lighting here in the kitchen. I would have replaced them myself, but I couldn’t get the old bulbs unscrewed—felt like they would break if I turned them any harder. There was a crazy mix of Warm/Daylight bulbs, and various lumens/strengths going on from light to light. It made the kitchen “feel” a mess. Lighting is so important and can make or break how a room looks and feels. These are my favorite bulbs for kitchens and basements. I have these in both my kitchen and basement back in Georgia, and I bought the same for the Dollhouse.
It looks and feels so much better now, like it got a huge upgrade! It’s much brighter and happier! You’ll find these bulbs available here: Bulbs for Basement or Kitchen Recessed Lights. Excuse my fancy window treatments. lol I’ve ordered shutters for those two windows. They should be ready in 5–6 weeks.
I also had my plumber replace the broken kitchen faucet that seemed to only put out burning hot water or cold, with nothing in between. I went with another Moen, Motion-sensor faucet, since I really enjoy the one I have in Georgia. (Moen Motion Sensor faucet is available here: Moen Faucet.) The plumber also added two new Moen dispenser heads where the granite countertop was designed for those. The dispenser over the largest sink on the left holds dishwashing detergent, while the other dispenser holds hand soap. They work effortlessly and, so far, flawlessly. Love those! (Dishwashing and Hand-wash Dispenser is available here: Detergent Dispenser.)
I found the prettiest kitchen utensil holder! I’ve ordered another set of utensils for it so it won’t be so empty. Ha! Those should arrive today. This beautiful utensil holder is nice and heavy, feels well-made. I love the design! It’s available here: Utensil Organizer.
This is the set I ordered, and it should work great with my recently purchased Non-stick, All-Clad cookware. (Utensil Set is available here: Kitchen Utensil Set.)
You already know how much I use and rely on my favorite Super Cleaner. I just recently purchased a window cleaner that I’ve used in the past and really like. I was hoping they hadn’t stopped making it and thankfully, they haven’t! If you have some stubborn, “been-there-forever-grime” that needs to be cleaned, I very much recommend this Super Cleaner. It’s cuts through stubborn dirt better than anything that I’ve found. It really is a SUPER cleaner! I brought a bottle to the Dollhouse when I first moved in and since then, I’ve purchased two more bottles. I keep it stashed in the bathrooms so it’s available in case I need it. (Super Cleaner is available here: Super Cleaner.) If you have windows or glass that needs cleaning, I really like Hope’s Perfect Window for streak-free panes. It dries beautifully! (Glass cleaner is available in different sizes here: Perfect Glass.)
My Speed Queen Washer and Dryer arrived this morning, and I’ve already run a load through both. They did great! The basement laundry/utility room needs a lot of work, but I’m looking forward to turning it into a place that’s more enjoyable to work in. I’ll be sure to share those changes with you as they happen. The refrigerator is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. I haven’t heard anything from the delivery people, though. Hopefully they are still coming. Looking forward to sharing that update soon! Update: Just got notice that the delivery is taking place tomorrow. Yipee!
Really enjoying hearing all about your Dollhouse!
Thanks, Beth! It’s so much fun sharing the updates as I can do them. 🙂
Susan ~ Speed Queen was recently recommended to me for when I need to replace my very old Maytag washer. Did you have a post about which model you purchased? I would love to hear about how you decided on this brand.
Thank you!
In my opinion, Speed Queen really is the best, and I love that it’s made right here in the US in Wisconsin. When my plumber was here today, he said the Speed Queen is what all the repairmen he knows recommend and I had found that to be true online, as well. I went with their TR7 and it’s amazing! That’s the model I purchased for the Georgia house, and I didn’t even look at anything else when it came to ordering a set for the Dollhouse. It lives up to its reputation all the way. You can read more about why I chose it and how I like it in this previous post: https://betweennapsontheporch.net/how-do-i-like-my-speed-queen-washer-would-i-recommend-it/
Thanks so much for your well-thought out opinions on the Speed Queen washer. It will definitely be the first one I consider when it comes time to replace mine. Enjoy your new cottage! – it’s so fun to see you make it your own.
I LOVE getting your blog regarding all the updates/work you are doing on the Dollhouse! I can’t believe how much you’ve had to undertake upon taking possession! It’s good that you like to do these projects and are so good at managing them. Do you have any timeline as to when you are planning to move in?
I know, it’s more than I realized, but I’m just trying to take it one day at a time. No, not really. I’m hoping as I do more and more to the Dollhouse, it will help my heart feel better about one day selling the Georgia house. I’m just not in a rush, though. I need to create a post answering a lot of the questions that everyone has, I’ll try to do that real soon. Thanks, Judy!

Such a whirlwind! I am curious about how you go about it all. Such as what you need and the order to do things in; how to find tradesmen in a new area (that you don’t live in yet!); how to decide what to do stat and what to do later. How to organize the workers schedule from so far away, etc. I just can’t fathom
And what do the kids think? Have they decided where they’ll sleep over and such?
That kitchen looks great. And I do really love the stainless with those sweet white cabinets. I can’t even believe all you’ve accomplished already. You are such a Super Woman! This is all such fun. Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
My head is whirling as fast as your new Speed Queen washing machine!! My gosh…you need an assistant just to track DELIVERIES, appointments, ETC!!! You GO GAL!!! franki
