Weekend Shopping Finds: My Favorite Shorts & A Good Read

I’m visiting family this weekend out-of-state and popped into my favorite Talbots there. I purchased these shorts in white and oh my gosh, are they comfortable! I wore them to an outdoor birthday party and they were perfect. They are generously cut so if you get your normal size, you’ll find them super comfortable. I loved them so much, after the party I immediately went online and ordered another pair. They are super flattering on the legs, the perfect length! I’m 5’4″ (on a good day) and I purchased them in Misses (not Petite) in case that’s helpful. You’ll find them in several colors here: Scalloped Shorts.

I also purchased this top…haven’t worn it yet but it is beautiful on! I bought one for my daughter-in-law and she loved it, too!

Gingham Shell

The beautiful beaded flowers around the neckline are so pretty! It’s perfect for dressing up or down, will look great with white, red or black pants or shorts, or even a skirt. It’s available here: Beaded Shell.

Just wanted to share these before they are gone…I can’t believe they are still available in so many sizes because they are cute, cute, cute!

Okay, wish me well on my drive home. This drive is ALWAYS an adventure, since I seem to always run into heavy storms on my way home. Hoping that doesn’t happen this time. I was in rain almost all the way up. Ugh.

At least I have a great book to listen to thanks to Leslie, a BNOTP reader, who told me about Patrick Taylor’s, An Irish Country Doctor: The Novel. It sounds like a book with characters similar to those in Doc Martin or the movie, Waking Ned Divine. 🙂

Anyone else a fan of Patrick Taylor’s books in this series?

  1. Love your new outfits and also shop at Talbots’s. I’ve read all the books by Patrick Taylor and love his style of writing.

  2. Hello Susan, I think I’ve been looking at and reading your blog for a year or maybe more. I love it all! Thank you for writing and having such interesting subjects and diverse topics. PLEASE don’t ever “unfriend” me here. Your blog just makes me happy!
About me? I live in France near Geneva, Switzerland with my husband and a 16 year old cat named Silly…the name is a long story…and we love it here. With two grown children and grandchildren back home, I can’t wait to move back to the states and to a home of our own. I’m getting great ideas from you on what to do with it when that someday comes!
    Happy Summer! Renee

  3. Cute shorts and top!
    Have a safe trip home.

I’ve read all the books by Patrick Taylor and I have enjoyed them all!!

  5. Yes! I really enjoy the Irish Country Doctor books by Patrick Taylor! My Mom got me started with them. And, isn’t it great to listen to the accents? Especially since you are planing to visit soon.
It is the pits to drive in rainstorms! I had to drive from KC to St Louis this past weekend in a terrible storm. I saw about five wrecks and was very relieved to arrive safely. Hope you do ok and your return.

  6. I often see the Patrick Taylor books when I’m volunteering at the library. I’m going to give one a try. I always love your recommendations, and recently purchased a Travelon messenger purse for my upcoming trip to Paris. Thanks for the tip!

  7. The Irish country doctor is a great
series. Hooked you will be. A new one out in the fall and I can’t wait! Perfect for rainy autumn nights. Safe journey. Toni

That top sure is cute! The book sounds interesting. Never saw the movie Waking Ned Divine, I will have to see if I can watch it on Prime Amazon. So did you enjoy our nice northern summer weather in the high 70’s , low 80’s? Hope you had great weather in Ohio like we are having in Michigan. Will pray for safe travel home!

    Enjoy reading Patrick Taylor

  10. Hi Susan, we just returned from a trip to Ireland for a wedding and some touring. I’d like to recommend the movie Leap Year, a romantic comedy starring Amy Adams that takes place in Ireland. And I’ve just started listening to Jackie’s Girl about a nineteen year old girl from Ireland hired by Jackie Kennedy as her assistant after the assasination. Your trip sounds wonderful.
The weather was never hot, light periods of rain and sun every day. Scenery is gorgeous and staying in castles sounds fabulous! The window boxes and gardens are amazing!

  11. I love those shorts!
    Fabby

  12. I ordered the sweater blazer you talked about, plus a few other things. Love those sales! Missed those shorts though! I love Doc Martin, so definitely will be checking out this book. We are planning a Greek Island cruise next year from Venice. Afterwards we will be renting a car and go to Florence, Cinque Terra and then drive down through Tuscany to Naples. You are right…… the research, planning and anticipation are half of the fun!

  13. Susan……love the shorts & top. You may get it in traffic on 75 South between Lexington & Richmond in KY. Road crews are repairing a bridge where a tractor trailer dropped heavy metal & torn the pavement over the river. Drive Safe!

  14. I visited Ireland from Canada. I was on a bus tour by myself while my husband visited relatives in Germany. A wonderful trip and everyone was so friendly and made sure I was never alone. Can’t wait to hear your opinion when you return. Patrick Taylor’s books are so well written you feel like you are a part of every chapter. A wee bit of luck to ye now!

  15. Susan: I really like those shorts. Being a bit older than you, I appreciate shorts that are a good length, but are still cool. I’ve yet to find capris that are flattering on me. I’m 5’9″ and they seem to end at a bad spot. The shirt is also adorable. The Patrick Taylor books are wonderful. You will be hooked!

Such a cute outfit! I have not read anything by this author yet….Sounds intriguing!

Hi, Susan. Another great find–thanks for posting! I ordered two of the white shorts. They are so adorable and add that touch of pizazz to otherwise plain shorts. Ironically, I already have a top like the gingham one that I just love. The book sounds like it’s right up my alley. Be careful driving home. We’ve really had our share of rain this spring and summer and a few unusually hot weeks as well. So glad we’re back to mid-80’s again! We had horrible rain storms with lots of lightening when I lived in FL years ago and they could come on so suddenly. There were many times I’d just have to pull over and wait it out because I couldn’t even see the divider lines on the road. Hugs!

  18. Cute clothes – really like that top! Just your likening the characters to those in Doc Martin is enough to make me want to read that book!

  19. Beverly Anderson says

Thanks for posting the book link – I ordered the paperback! I’m an RN and my husband is an MD and we both loved the Doc Martin PBS series (we were always trying to “guess the diagnoses” before Martin did). We are also planning a tour of Ireland next Spring.

  20. I bought the black check top earlier this summer and have to say I LOVE it. So flattering, so comfortable

  21. I’ve read all the books in Patrick Taylor’s series. They are wonderful stories filled with accurate history. I highly recommend.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
