Today I played hooky and it was soooo much fun. I highly recommend it! 😉 I guess it wasn’t really hooky since I snapped some fun pics and garnered some great Valentine’s Day decorating ideas to bring back and share with you.
Such a great way to spend a cold January day. I had lunch with my friend, Marie, followed by a fun day of shopping. We visited all our favorite shopping haunts around town and we didn’t come home empty handed. I found pretty green napkins, just right for a future spring/summer table setting.
Upon arriving at Marie’s home, I had to snap a pic of her fountain out front. Don’t you love it!
As you can see, it’s cold here in Georgia right now.
Marie decorates her beautiful Victorian home for all the holidays and I couldn’t wait to see what she had done with her front porch for Valentine’s Day.
Let’s step a bit closer and check it out.
A cute doggie bearing a sweet Valentine’s Day message greeted me at the end of the walkway.
The porch was all decked out with fluffy red garland and beautiful hanging lanterns. Marie found her garland at treetopiadotcom online and it came prelit. Awesome! The lanterns are from HomeGoods several years ago.
Let’s take a closer look at the decorations on the lower part of the columns.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Is this putting you in the mood for a little Valentine’s Day decorating? Marie found the hearts in Michaels.
A visit to Marie’s home is like entering a magical fairy land. My eyes grow big, my heart beats faster and I’m suddenly 10 years old again. Thanks to this thing called the internet and a blog, you can come, too! We’ll be 10 years old again together. Deal?
We’ll be going inside soon and I can’t wait to share Marie’s Valentine’s Day table setting with you for Tablescape Thursday!
If you missed seeing how Marie decorates her home and porch for Christmas, you’ll find that post here: Beautiful Victorian Home Decorated for Christmas
The red pops so nicely against the white trim. My kids would DIE for the puppy inflatable….puts our Valentine’s decorations (which I blogged about today) to shame.
Thanks for sharing!
Amelia
Marie has a gorgeous home! Love her front door and the cute green frog! That fountain is just nuts, considering it is Georgia!! I am frozen up here, 18 degrees, feels like 5. Brrrr xo
Sounds like my kind of day! Eager to see inside. The big beautiful porch dress in the red garland is a delightful teaser.
Aw…you had me at Puppy Love. So cute.
Holy cow! Where does she store all of the decorations? Would love to see a post on how she keeps it all organized and how she keeps track of everything. She must be one organized lady!
She is! 🙂
I love the decorations on the front porch! It has been cold here in Minnesota too…today it did reach 7 above zero but we still had below zero wind chills. It is a great time to sit under a blanket!
Wow, I’ll quit whining about our cold, then. 7 is too cold for this girl! I think it was just in the upper 20’s here…but it warmed up a fair amount today. Stay warm, Barb!
I am so glad you are back at Marie’s!!! Can’t wait to see the table!! Does she decorate the whole house for each holiday???? I would love to see the house just back to “normal”, I can’t imagine what her normal is:):) XO, pinky
Hi Pinky, Marie just decorates a few place for the other holidays…Christmas is the one she decorates the most for, I believe. I’ll let Marie answer because she can do that better than me. 🙂
Hi Pinky, Susan is right i just decorate the dining room table, kitchen tree and breakfast area for other holidays. However, i do creep into the den with some cute pillows and the den dining table decorations. I set the table and countertops downstairs on the terrace level (aka basement). In the kids rooms i add some Valentine pillows and valentine hand towels. This year i have put a children’s table in the turret and set it with a valentine tea service. i did that after Susan and I played hooky and went to lunch.
so glad you and Susan are friends. I enjoy all the tablescapes from BNOTP and Susan’s recommendations. I have started decorating a white tree for holidays now as you have inspired me. I used a Mardi Gras theme as Houston TX is crazy for MG due to it being so close to New Orleans. I will have a decorated Easter tree as well. You are both an inspiration to me for holiday decorations.
What a lovely home she has, just perfect for decorating! You’ve got great friends Susan ;). btw, did you ever get over to Paris on Ponce?
No, I need to go. I am having a late birthday lunch with a friend in Atlanta next week. Maybe we can go that day. I need to google to see where it is again. Thanks for the reminder.
How cute! I love the decorations! Hugs, Leena
She does such an amazing job. I have always wanted to do that, decorate for each holiday. I can hardly wait to see the inside.
Marie sounds delightful! Her home shines with love of family and friends. Whereas, many of us dread the decorating, she looks forward to it. I’m still looking forward to having all the Christmas boxes and tubs put away. Thank you, Susan!
I just love, love , love this beautiful Victorian house! Its so wonderful that the governor’s wife uses such whimsy, not just formal decorations! I’m sure her grandchildren love it, and it puts bigwigs at ease! Its just so great! Looking forward to the table. How lucky you are to have such great friends and how blessed they are as well! Helen
That is darling!
Love the style of the front door and with it being red….she sure stands out. It’s been over 20 years since I had a red front door. I just about hung valentine hearts on my Christmas tree today…..changed my mind. Think I will sit out a bowl of stuffed hearts and call it good.
God bless,
d
Hi Susan…. Marie’s home is beautiful. It’s nice that she decorates special areas and not the whole house…this would be a mammoth storage and a physically challenging job.
Looking forward to seeing more…
Have a good day
Barb from Australia
Love it!
Hi, Susan,
Isn’t mother nature amazing? That frozen fountain looks like a commissioned beautiful wedding cake ice sculpture, doesn’t it? I love it! ♥
I’m happy to see Marie’s wonderful home again… 🙂 Her outdoor Valentine’s Day decorations are all beautiful. That big frog is such a cutie! lol
Looking forward to seeing her table setting, tomorrow… 🙂
P.S. Susan, what you call “garland” is called “tinsel garland” (Lametta) in Germany and usually it is used to decorate Christmas trees… it’s so funny to me to see how you can use it for other decorating purposes, too…
~Hugs to you~
Cecilia
Such a pretty home 🙂 The red garland looks cute with the hearts! I like the semi-frozen fountain 🙂
Marie is one ambitious lady!
I loved your entire wonderful, whimsical Christmas blog on this beautiful house and I eagerily await the next decorating Holiday! Can’t wait to take in all of Marie’s surprises for us!
I used to decorate my house in Mesquite TX for all of the holidays and it was such fun. Marie’s house looks so cute. I love the Puppy Love dog but then I am a dog person! Since I moved to East Texas to live with my 96 yr old mother, I don’t decorate except for Christmas. I really miss having the house all spruced up but all of my decorations are in storage and too hard to access. Thanks again for sharing all the lovely pictures. Oh, yes, and I love the frozen fountain! It never gets that cold here.
Gorgeous home, especially dipped in red! Happy Wednesday!!! Cindy
The home is beautiful. Love the fountain
Boy does that woman love to decorate! Wow! Can’t wait to see her tablescape tomorrow!
Valentine’s or not, I love her red door!!!
How pretty! I would LOVE to be able to decorate my porch like that..small though it is.. Maybe next year I can do better. Soooo pretty!!
Mona
I was fortunate to meet Marie years ago when our daughters played sports together. She has an amazing talent for decorating and making everything a PARTY! She’s even more fun than these posts describe. And you simply won’t find better parents or grandparents than Roy and Marie. Thanks so much to Susan and Marie for allowing us a peek into this gorgeous home. Blessings to all!
Barbara Moore
Barbara, how nice to hear from you, it has been many years since we sat in the gym together. Hope you are doing well, say hello to everyone for me.
This is so exciting to be back at Marie’s home. I’m still oohing and aahing over her Christmas decorating. I know I’ll love the next reveal! Thank you, Marie for sharing.
WOW
I it’s amazing how someone is so creative, How can a person think of things
like that is beyond me It is absolutely stunning
You can decorate for me anytime I will be waiting
This is a lovely home and I have enjoyed your tours! Her decorations are always fabulous- how precious for her Grandchildren!
Oh my goodness, Susan. I can’t wait to see Marie’s decorations for Valentine’s Day. She’s a great friend to have and you are a great friend for sharing it with all of us in blogland! Susan
Hi Susan – Happy to see Marie’s home again – for lack of a better word it’s just so “happy”! Can’t wait to see her tablescape on Thursday too ! It was 4 degrees here in CT this morning! Happy Winter ! Hugs, Dorinda
Hi Susan, she has a lovely home. Maybe someday she’ll give us a tour of her home without any special holiday decorations, not that I don’t love all of the decorations. I would just like to see it as an everyday home. I know we would all be impressed. Speaking of cold weather…it’s COLD in Florida today too. It’s one of those days to stay inside by the fireplace. Thanks for sharing. I always love your posts.
Be still my heart!! (excuse the pun), we get to see Marie’s house again. I didn’t know she was a friend Susan, I thought you just went on the Christmas tour!! 🙂
Love, love, love it. The fountain was a nice touch Susan. Cannot wait to go inside again and Marie recovered so quickly from all the Christmas trimming.
Thank you Marie for letting us in to your home once more, you do reali, of course, that we are now permanent guests?! 🙂
Thanks for hosting Susan.
Gorgeous home!!!! LOVE….
The red looks fantastic next to the white! So cute!
Nancy
Is it Thursday yet??? 😉
🙂
What pretty Valentine’s decorations–I love that pre-lit red garland–so festive!
How wonderful we can look forward to another visit to this lovely home and the kindness of the owner in allowing you to take the pictures that we then enjoy on your posts. I look forward to seeing the inside.
Please Susan would you post something about it being SAINT Valentine’s Day….NOT Valentine’s Day. The day was named after a Saint and his name was Valentine so please tell everyone to call it St. Valentine’s Day the same as they call St. Patrick’s Day … who was also a very great Saint. Let us give credit where credit is due, s’il vous plait! I note below a post say Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day Table Settings…please add St. to dear Valentine. You are blessed.
Thank you Susan. I love all your posts and you are always so kind to tell us how to do the craft’s you show us.
With thanksgiving,
Sylvia Faye
I should have known that her home would be decorated so beautifully for Valentines!…Glad you had a great shopping day….and tell Marie thanks for the “reminder” of that fabulous wrapping station….See you soon!!!
Usually not a big fan of ‘red’ but these decorations definitely capture the heart.
Cold in Georgia you say. Here where I am, it is dipping down to -17 F tonight and temps are still expected to drop within the next few days. Welcome to C-A-N-A-D-A …… Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ☺
Warm hugs -Brenda-
Yikes! I’m not cut out for Canada weather! I’d become a popsicle in 5 minutes. 🙂
That is one fun porch!! The decor is adorable!! Is this thesame house that had the frogs on Valentine table? Is so, very cleaver frog on porch as a prelude!! Thanks for the inspiration..gorgeous home too. I haveor h envy!! Huggs Dianna
What a dream of a home. I am thinking like when I was a little girl, and I would say only real rich people live in a huge house like that , must be a senators home?
Always dreamed of owing a house like that
The decorations are wonderful, I enjoyed seeing your friends house
I LOVE that front door!!! Drool!! Can you find out the color of paint used on it? Her house and decorating are simply wonderful!!! Thanks for the tours Susan!!
Well, I just love everything you do… Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful! Just found this site! Do you recall where the standing heart decorations right outside the front door are from. The ones on each side of the door. I think there are some by the inside tree too! Thanks
