A Breakfast Brunch with Good Friends

Welcome to the 459th Tablescape Thursday!

In 2000, Martha tore down an old rotting screened porch and replaced it with a 4-season sunroom. Martha said, “It is my refuge! I like to set tables out there when I can and eat where we can hear the fountain and look at the flowers.”

Martha’s sunroom is the perfect spot for entertaining. Martha said, “Recently, I had my supper club over for a brunch. My supper club has been meeting once a month for 34 years! We all met in church as young singles and have pretty much “grown up” together.”

“Friendship is such a joy. These are the napkins I had at the bar in the kitchen. It kind of sums up our little group.”

Martha set a wonderful table for the brunch. She found the red and white checked napkins in Pier 1 years ago. The red glasses are Mikasa and are currently on sale here: Ruby Goblets. I have these same glasses and they are wonderful for Christmas, 4th of July, Valentine’s Day and so many more occasions.

Jacques Pepin Figural Chicken Plates

Are these not the most perfect plates for a breakfast brunch! lol They are so adorable, they totally make you giggle! Martha found these wonderful plates here: Chicken Plates.

For the teaspoons at each place setting, Martha used beautiful silverplate spoons with special little messages for each guest.

Silver Plate Spoon with Stamped Message

These delightful spoons are such a wonderful surprise for guests. I love to give them as gifts, they are perfect for that, along with a mug and a little tin of hot chocolate or a special coffee. You’ll find them available in lots of different sayings (or make up you own) here: Silverplate Message Spoons.

The red flatware is available here: Red Flatware.

One warning: these spoons tend to multiply in your home after you purchase that first one. 🙂

Adorable Spoons with Hand-stamped Sayings

Martha used this whimsical rooster pitcher as her centerpiece. Martha said, “I really can’t remember where the rooster pitcher came from but it was probably HomeGoods, Marshall’s or TJ Maxx quite a few years back.” I have this same pitcher and I can’t remember exactly where I found it either. I think it may have been HomeGoods.

The salt and pepper shakers are from the same pattern as the chicken plates…so cute!

The creamer and sugar from this same pattern…

…and the butter dish. I just love this whimsical pattern! It would be great for any meal, but it’s especially perfect for a breakfast brunch! This pattern is available here: Whimsical Chicken Dinnerware.

Such a beautiful, delightful table for a brunch with friends!

Martha said, “The table is only 5′ long, so it’s not big enough to put much food on. I usually serve us from the buffet by the table.”

Best Breakfast Casserole, Fruit Salad, Peach Trifle, Home-made Biscuits

In addition to the yummy breakfast casserole, Martha served a beautiful fruit salad, home-made biscuits and peach trifle.

Home-made Biscuits

Peach trifle is one of my favorites! You’ll find a recipe for Peach Trifle here: Peach Trifle.

Thanks so much to Martha for sharing this wonderful brunch gathering with friends! This was such a delight in every way!

I’m going to ask Martha for her breakfast casserole recipe and hopefully I can share it here on the blog. I’ve been looking for a good one for a few years now!

You’ll need to include a link in your post back to the party to link up and participate. That’s so visitors to your blog will be able to find the party and the other Tablescape Thursday participants. Requiring a link back also prevents businesses and scammers from linking up to sell their products. (Yup, that really happens, unfortunately.)

  1. Thanks so much for hosting, Susan and for sharing Martha’s beautiful brunch setting. It looks perfect for inviting friends for good food and conversation…those biscuits look heavenly!

This makes me smile. This group of girls is like my group of Garden Club girls! We are having a tea this Tuesday and each member is asked to bring their favorite tea cup. The hospitality committee is designing a floral centerpiece for each table. I thought it would be fun to use a tea pot as my container. Have fun with your “Girls” I will too!!

  3. Susan
I had the privilege of attending Martha’s brunch. The table was beautiful, the food delicious (you really should get her breakfast casserole recipe ) and the fellowship with old friends was wonderful.

  4. What a fun and whimsical table. Love the chicken plates. Perfect in every way! Wonderful to have a group that have stuck together for such a long time…..the best
    of life!

  5. This is just too cute and sweet for words. The collection is wonderful. I know her guests had a delightful time!
Yes, please share Martha’s breakfast casserole recipe. It looks yummy. So do the biscuits!

  6. Fun table, Susan! I love whimsey and chickens have long been a favorite here. I love the long table! Wish our sunroom was large enough to have a long table all the time. I have to move much of the furniture out to set up a long table there, but have done it. Tell Martha, thumbs up from me! ‘-)

  7. Charlotte says

What a fun table! Those dishes are so cute and perfect for Brunch. How special they have gotten together for 34 years!

  8. I love this table, it’s absolutely adorable! Love, love, love the chicken plates, butter dish, and salt and pepper shaker. I’ve never done a tablescape that was specifically for breakfast or lunch–now I’ll have to. This darling tablescape really inspires me!! But dang, now I feel I need to buy some chicken plates also LOL! Hubby may have some heartburn about more dishes, I really do have WAY TOO MANY dishes as it is. Great job, Martha, and Susan, thanks for another great Tablescape Thursday.

  9. Martha’s table is beautiful and the Chicken theme is so cute! Thanks for hosting and I hope you had a fantastic holiday.

  10. Love the plates. I never collected chickens or roosters (or pigs), but all of these cute tablescapes are growing on me and thrift shop finds are following me home. Maybe it’s a good thing we can’t afford to buy everything we like. LOL Still thinking instead of donating our overflow to GW, we could donate them to each other for the cost of shipping. Hint hint, there is an opportunity in there.

  11. I just may have to get some of those chicken plates as I love to host brunch. Martha’s table is adorable. can you ask her if you can share her recipe? Thanks for hosting, Susan!

  12. Dee Skislak says

What a cute idea for a breakfast get together or a brunch. Love those spoons.

  13. Renee Cook says

That was fun! I do love a brunch! It is so special they have been doing this for so long. Thanks for sharing.

  14. MMMM…peach trifle. I love trifle! I seldom make them because I have several food allergies and have to make every element from scratch, but this seems worth the effort. Very cute table, Love gingham and country looks. We get nice peaches from the western slope here, but I bet they are not as fine as Georgia peaches.

  15. I absolutely ADORE the red and white table! And those napkins are darling! I have a girlfriend who loves funny/creative napkins like those and she collects them. I can’t tell you how many make us laugh out loud:)

    As always, thanks for hosting!

    Sheila

  16. Wow how can you not like those chicken dishes! I have those red and white checked napkins- they’re a favorite. I like how she laid them under the plates- it brightens everything up! The food looks dellicious! Thanks for sharing with us.

  17. Great table by Martha. That Jacques Pepin dinnerware has tempted me more than once at Sur, the chickens are so proud, lol.
Congrats to the Noritake winner. Tell Felita C we want to see her table, hehe.

  18. I loved how you and your friends “grew up together.’. I have a chicken/ rooster love affair with dishes. Since I no longer have a Sur la Table close, I somehow missed the dinnerware. Thank you for sharing the Hampton Forge silverware. I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond for approximately $15 less a set and can use their 20 percent off coupons.

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
