A Spooky Halloween Hutch

Welcome to the 296th Metamorphosis Monday!

Did you have a good weekend? I spent mine getting a few things done here around the house. I also played a little out on the porch, changing the hutch from its summertime look to something fun and just a tad spooky!

Postcards From The Porch
Before I share the hutch update, I wanted to say a big thank you to all the lovely folks who took time to email me after the BNOTP newsletter, Postcards From The Porch, went out on Saturday. I appreciate your kind words!

Several folks mentioned enjoying the extras I added to the end of the newsletter. That’s one of the best things about a newsletter; it’s a great way to share little things I think you’ll enjoy but aren’t enough for a whole blog post. A newsletter just feels more personal, doesn’t it?

If you didn’t receive the newsletter last Saturday, you can subscribe HERE or via the subscribe box at the end of this post.

A Hutch Metamorphosis

This past spring I decorated the hutch that lives out on the screened porch in a beachy vibe.

Beach Hutch

I left it that way all spring and summer and it gave the porch a summer-house feel. With fall here, it was time to give the hutch a little update.

Hutch with Beach China

Last fall when it was time to change-up the hutch, I decorated for autumn with a lighter touch. Instead of oranges, reds and browns, I went with an all white scheme. It was a nice way to gently transition from summer to fall. I threw in a few turkeys in anticipation of Thanksgiving.

As I was thinking about how I wanted to decorate the hutch for this fall, I decided to use the pumpkins again. And, since October is just two days away…

I let a little Halloween creep in.

I love decorating with ravens for Halloween. They are just the right amount of spooky.

I took these pics after dark for a little added spookiness.

Do you remember the ravens and Trick or Treat plates from last year?

They were part of this tablescape last Halloween. (Tablescape can be viewed here: Quoth The Raven, “Nevermore.”)

I’ve already purchased some Halloween candy in anticipation of the big night. I’ve been testing the Snickers bars and so far, they have passed inspection.

I had everything I needed for this little metamorphosis; the only thing purchased this fall was the Dead & Breakfast Inn sign from HomeGoods.

The wine label is from Michael’s last year and it says, “Hollow Branch House Wine, Made with hand-pecked ingredients.” 🙂

The creepy-cloth is the same cloth used to decorate the chairs….

  3. i am glad i am not a frequent traveler at the Dead & Breakfast Inn! 🙂 Perfect for Halloween.

  4. Oh I love your spooky transformation on your hutch Susan! I spied that Dead & Breakfast sign at HomeGoods and now I’m kicking myself that I didn’t bring it home with me. Love it with your ravens & wine label 🙂

    • Mary, I’m so glad you mentioned where you saw it…I think it was HomeGoods, not Marshalls. I’ve had it a few weeks and couldn’t remember. They always have the cutest signs, don’t they!

  5. Thanks so much for the party!!

    Hugs,
    Debbie

  6. Wonderful changes to the hutch and I am loving your nevermore themed tablescape. The colors are gorgeous! Thanks for another great party!

  12. I love your newly decorated hutch and tablescape…the ravens are great! Thanks so much for hosting!

  13. LOL love the Dead and Breakfast sign and the Trick or Treat plates look so cute lined up there! I’m glad the “snickers” bars passed inspection!! Thanks for hosting!

    • I think they might need a little more inspection before the big day arrives. At the rate my inspecting is going, I may need to make another trip back to the store for more test material. 😉

  14. Your Dead & Breakfast Inn hutch is so cute, Susan! It is just the right amount of “spooky” without being overly ghoulish — I’m not big on spiders & skeletons. Thanks so much for hosting!

I remember that tablescape from last fall, Susan. I have always liked those ravens you used. It was good to see it again. I remember liking the way the mercury glass ornaments looked and the raven in the cloche. 😀

Now they’re spending the autumn on the hutch. It’s fantastic that you didn’t have to buy anything but the sign and yet you can make it look so appropriate and festive for the season. And that is the perfect sign to top it off. It fits the raven theme so well.

Well, all I know is it must be fun hanging out at your place. You make everything an adventure. I wish I had that gift.

  16. How fun! Love your Halloween inspired porch! Thanks so much for hosting!

  17. I love the Halloween touches, Susan! The black really pops against the green. I bought a hutch very similar to yours at an estate sale last week. It needs some work though. Hopefully it will be as pretty as yours! XO

  18. Susan,
Thank you for making me smile.
    Kay

  19. Thanks for hosting, Susan! I just love how you change out your hutch’s decor each season. You are always so creative! Have a wonderful week!
    Blessings,
    Nici

  20. Thanks so much for hosting! And your hutch looks so cute! Happy Fall! Melissa

  21. Love your Halloween hutch. I decided to make my mantel all Halloween this year. Just wanted to do Halloween instead of straight fall. Fun!
    Thanks for hosting.
    KC

  22. You’re getting me so in the mood, Susan, as I’m starting to work on my Halloween settings. I love what you have going on on the table. Love the black, white and silver with just a tiny hit of orange. It looks Halloween, but it still looks pretty. Loving those cream pumpkins, as well!

  23. Susan, you’ve had too much fun already! Love your porch in black! What a fun party you can toss!!!

    Thanks,
    Helen

  24. I’m glad you found a new home for all your ravens! The do make a scary statement for Halloween. Thanks for hosting another great party.

  25. Susan, I LOVE the Dead and Breakfast sign and all the rest of your decorations for the hutch. I have one of those plates that I bought last year but it is buried in all the fall decorations right now! Got to find it soon!

  26. You have the best ravens; they look solid, not cheesy.
Brilliant idea to photograph at night with all the shadows. I have my soft September colors out, but now time to ramp up the deeper colors. Thanks for a few ideas.

  27. So spooky! I love your hutch all decked out for Halloween! I agree the Ravens are a spooky touch for Halloween.

  28. Thanks for the party, Susan, and I love the way you decorated your hutch. It’s nice to know others test the candy too — wouldn’t want to hand out anything that didn’t taste right! 😉

  29. Terry Julius says

Thanks for getting me in the mood. I want to start decorating right now. You always know how to get me inspired. Do you have any idea if Home Goods has those darling trick or plates again this year. I want to run out right now and buy them!!!!!

    • Thanks, Terry! I’m not sure about this year…I didn’t see them when I was in there a few weeks ago but you never know by now. Occasionally, they do have things two years in a row. I wish they would get in more stock of the things they carry, it always seems so limited, at least in the dish department.

  30. Love your spooky hutch Susan. Thanx for the party!

  31. Susan, you make spooky look fun.

  32. What a fun way to spook up your hutch! Thanks for the party Susan!!

    Big Texas Hugs,
    Susan and Bentley

  33. Love your spooky hutch decorations Susan…so fun! Thanks so much for hosting and I hope you have a great week. 🙂

  34. Susan ~ You’ve got the eery look down pat! Surely a fright at night! But those snickers are sure to delight!

  35. So cute !
Thanks for hosting again this week – appreciate what you do.

  36. bobbi duncan says

Susan, love your new sign! It’s great that you installed the lovely hutch…you can always change out the decor for any season or holiday. Thank you for the tutorial…ravens are great, and you’re always so nice to show close-ups for those of us (like ME) who,at times, need to see it to get it. I’m so enjoying Autumn. We are so fortunate to live near the borders of three other states as there are tons of events and festivals always going on. Unfortunately, it’s kept me from completing our fall porch decor. Today is drizzly. Hope it’s is nicer in Marietta.

  37. Susan, I love how you decorate your porch for all the seasons, and what a great sign! I need to buy one of those for my sister who’s always stuck hosting my huge family when they come into town – maybe they’ll get the message.

I’ve been working my first antiques pop up event – a barn sale – and did I learn a thing or two from the before and after. Meanwhile, my mind was still drifting to our last getaway in Alexandria, while conjuring up the next vacation, which I could sure use now. Have a great week. Save some candy for the kids. 😉

  38. Hi Susan! I adore your Halloween display…it is fun without being gory (some seem to go over the line I think for Halloween decor in their homes). Thanks for such great ideas and for hosting your party for us. I am sharing a metamorphosis of some old rocking chairs with Martha Stewart chalk paint…I also got to see a video on the top of your side bar of how to use MS liquid chalk paint…fun!

  39. Love your fun hutch and table with the constable of ravens stand guard ( I had to look that one up). They’re so cute with their orange “neck ties”, I don’t think they’d scare too many guests away from the Dead and Breakfast Inn. Thanks for hosting a fun party.

  40. Thank you for hosting I do get a few visits from here, but no comments, I must need help with my post…..Love your green hutch and sure is looking spooky on the porch…..boooooo!!!

  41. Love the hutch, Susan! You do such a great job decorating for the seasons! I am always excited to visit your blog 🙂

  42. What fun your hutch is, Susan. Love all of the ravens and the black plates. That Dead and Breakfast sign is hysterical! Thanks for hosting the linkup. laurie

  43. Love your Halloween hutch. When my hubby and I were in London at the Tower of London a big black raven swooped down and landed on one of the railings. He was very comfortable with the people there, possibly he was looking for a snack, but he was very beautiful and everyone enjoyed his being there. Absolutely love the summer hutch!Cheryl

    • Cheryl, that’s so interesting! Last year I was curious about the difference between a raven and a crow. I found a video online and by the time I finished watching it, I thought ravens were pretty cool! For one thing they don’t make all the racket that crows do. The noise they do make is a lot more pleasant. They just seem to be much nicer birds.

  44. Thanks for the party.

  45. Carolyn Price says

Love your Spooky Hutch, Susan! A great Met Monday for fall and also in anticipation of all things spooky in October.
I have a question: If I didn’t receive the postcard newsletter on Saturday is there any way to find it?
I am now subscribed … I thought I was subscribed before … but am interested in reading the one that just went out last Saturday and cannot find it.
    Thanks for any help.

  46. You’ve got your “Halloween Groove” on!! franki

  47. Love the seasonal changes and your endless energy!

I'd love to hear from you! Please leave a comment!
